It's called a "space case" when that happens. A terrible situation because the person can still be alive even with their lower body cut off because the pressure between the train and the platform will keep their inner guts from spilling out , but once the pressure is removed they will likely die . A " space case " likely happens when a person tries entering or exiting the train between cars but accidently fall when the train is moving. It can also happen when a person is trying to climb back onto the platform when they are hit by the train . The subway is nothing to be playing around or to be careless in because those massive steel trains are dangerous . She is absolutely right about not standing near the edge of the platform. I would try to keep my back against a steel beam , trash can , train map , or stand in the middle side ways . I've witnessed what a train does to a human body and it is disgusting and sometimes the victim suffers in pain before dieing . Smh

Suicide door/platform barriers are commonly used in metros in Japan and other countries. They are probably not used by MTA due to installation cost.
