Samuel Woodward, the man accused of killing his former classmate Blaze Bernstein in an anti-LGBTQ and anti-Jewish hate crime, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday.

This hate crime crap has got to stop. Parents should start being held accountable for their kids actions and sure his parents taught him through their actions how to hate gay people. This is just a kid whose parents should be prosecuted also for knowing better. Hate is hate children are taught to hate they have no clue what it is until they are taught by adults. Start holding adults accountable for their stupidity. Stop letting the government raise our children. Children should be punished and they should be taught to love

A crime affects the victim. A hate crime affects the victim plus everyone in the particular group to which the victim belonged. Both are heinous, the latter is just a little bit more so.

Certain groups are unfairly, unsympathetic. The defense in this case, tried to use the 'gay panic defense'. Which has been used before to justify killing gay people. No matter how defenseless, that gay person was, or how brutal the killing. Hate crimes laws assure that doesn't happen. They don't punish 'thought" They punish, MOTIVE, and lying in wait, planning ahead (already armed), and degree of violence. Hiding the body or desecration. Understand now? You're welcome.
