Both Man o' War and Secretariat had this way of looking at their admiring fans and seeming to say, "I'm the greatest. What are you?" I love these horses.

Only movie I was ever aware of was going to be done in the ‘50s by Sid Luft. Judy Garland’s contemporary husband. They made Star is Born but had to shelve the MOW project.
Maria Ward Only problem with a movie would be finding some sort of conflict to resolve. Seabiscuit made a great movie because he was considered an underdog and had one race that was the defining moment of his career to feature. MOW was just so dominant and well loved that I can’t imagine a good movie plot without twisting history somehow.
They could probably tell the story of how Faraway Farms went to hell after the death of Man O’ War and Sam Riddle. His family was not interested in Riddle’s expensive hobby. The farm was sold and eventually developed into a housing community. They dug up and removed Man O’ War’s remains, and his statue which were moved to the Kentucky Horse Park. I don’t know what happened to his most famous son, War Admiral. If he was buried some place else? Not sure.
Mackenzie, Man O'War is the original Big Red and HIS nickname wasn't stolen like Secretariat and his connections. Do you think now that Secretariat has that nickname anyone would DARE use it again. Affirmed, Easy Goer, Justify, nope. Secretariat fans are as obnoxious as half the country.
He came from August Belmont’s Foal crop of 1917….which were sold at auction when Belmont decided to join the war effort in Europe. Riddle purchased Man O’ War for $5,000 in 1918.
It would be nice for a change for his racing groom to get some mention. Frank Loftus. What ever happened to him? Will Harbut was great but he was only his stud groom for about the last 15 years. He is not the equivalent to Eddie Sweat.
@@orbitsun How is a horse who lost multiple times absolutely definitely better than a horse who basically never lost, and set 8 records in 1 season? Without blinkers?
Man O War will never be "just another horse". Check out the pedigree line, and you'll realize you would have never made that statement. Secretariat did run (in one race) faster in each consecutive segment between the markers; but Secretariat hardly broke first from the starting gate. Man O War carried more weight, Man O War did not have starting gates, Man O War did not run on a manicured track, Man O War sired Triple Crown Winners, had the largest stride, and beat another horse by 100 lengths. Secretariat is a great horse who will go down as one of the greats, but there will always be the original Big Red, foaled in 1917.
