Unless it’s a loan, the estate is legally obligated to reimburse the plaintiff. But the burden to prove that the money is actually owed in that amount is legally on the plaintiff. I must admit - it’s beginning to get a bit muddy, though.

He was trying to hang onto as much of his mother's money as he could instead of honoring her memory and treating her friend kindly by resolving this immediately.

The plaintiff's story certainly isn't as consistent as I was expecting.

One could easily apply this scenario for a deceased person's acquaintance suddenly coming up saying "they owned me money". That happens all the time. The clip ended before the plaintiff's daughter could explain, but it sounds like they're getting tripped up on the amount and it's also suspicious that they admit to be credited some amounts in a refund. Again, the guy could be lying, but so far, asking for the evidence from the plaintiff isn't untoward. They're the ones making the claim, so burden of proof is on them. I'm just saying it seems like JJ is being biased because the dude's profession.
