After a phenomenal 1-3 win in Paris, I trying to track down the first Man Utd game I watched. This is the game. First time I watch United, and the game made me fell in love since then.
I feel the same, and it makes me feel so old. Because I remember football pundits from the mid 90's - early 2000's talking about how great the game was in the 60's & 70's. But there really were class players in the 90's, but today its about fitness & tactics, back then it was about individual skill & creativity, back between 1990 - 2010 there were so many No.10s, playmakers & creative players, like Cantona, Beckham, Scholes, Hagi, Zidane, Bakero, Ginola, Riquelme, Zola, Juninho, Deco, etc... back then it was like watching football, today it's like watching a men's track & field race.
I remember this match in my school summer holidays, I was only 12. It was the summer when Shearer decided to join his boyhood team Newcastle instead of Man Utd. I think it was a record £15m back then. Was so sad he didn’t join us but I guess he followed his heart, not his head
Far from it, I remember us losing 3 in quick succession that season, 5-0 to Newcastle, 6-3 to Southampton, and 2-1 to Chelsea. We weren't "untouchable", we were just better than every other team in the EPL at the time.. well, for 20 years :p
Season 97/98 is rebuilding...class '92 still growing...this season arsenal winner EPL with Arsene wenger...After that was the era of Man United ... with an arsenal that was always following
1st Goal-"Paul Scholars actually points to Beckham to pass the other way cause he sees Cantona." Hahaha that SatNav man can still pass even when he doesn't have the ball
i just love this. its no wonder man u dominate for so long. as a complete neutral this is so good. i just dont like football nowadays . way preferred it then and up to about 2000/2001. just such a more different feel to it here
@martinbond461 Despite the repeat of fixture congestion at the end of the season, which the League promised won't happen again after it cost us the title in 1992.
I was at Knebworth on this day watching Oasis. Heard rumours of the score through the crowd and surprised as expected Newcastle to be stronger with Shearer joining. Early days obviously...
There was such a buzz about this season, coming straight after Euro 96. And this was a spectacular way to start it (for us at least). In the end it was quite an average Premier League season... oh well.
Agreed about the post ‘96 excitement. The “Express train to stop at Old Trafford” headlines regarding UTD signing of Poborsky. Liverpool signed Berger. The 15M pound Shearer. Great memories
Could You Imagine If Shearer Was Up Front With Cantona? Manchester United could have Easily go through the Whole Premier League Unbeaten at Old Trafford! Manchester United could have Beaten Juventus Twice & Beat Borussia Dortmund To Win The Champions League! Wouldn't Have Lost To Wimbledon In The FA Cup & Wouldn't Have Gone Out Early In The League Cup! Shearer Could Have Been A Premier League Winner 5 Times!
first who scored was eric cantona then it was nicky butt with a header and then young david beckham scored and lobbed the goalkeeper and roy keane with a free kick
Why would he have a regret remember he wore the number 9 shirt of nufc / what is every boys dream being born a Geordie!! Captain of club & England at the same time & record goal scoring hero taking over the great Jackie milburn ?? Wish I had regrets like that mate
Lee Hope you must be a Geordie ? He was great a real centre forward but what has he to show for it ? Nothing no silverware nothing what would you rather have medals or sentiment?
I know what you saying mate & yes I am a Geordie mate & in my opinion if it was me yes I would give up all the medals!! Just to live his dream/ you got to be born Black n white to know what it means mate & that's not me being disrespectful to you by any means
It was actually better in my opinion than today. The Arsenal team of 1998 and Man Utd team of 1999 were phenomenal sides and contained better players than Man City currently have.
@@garymitrovic2503 Also, you realise just how many English players teams (apart from Chelsea) had in those days. It was just better that way - it meant more to them and to the fans, and they still played some brilliant football.
@@omalone1169you disagree? If so, fair enough. But I don't think you'll find any fans who watched football in the 70s/80s/90s and who also watch it today, who think it's better now than it was then.
