yet another example of how a college education does NOT necessarily create intelligent people.

I've been there once with my family when I was about 12 years old. When I saw the boardwalks with no rails and all the steaming and boiling water, I pretty much freaked out at how unsafe it appeared to me. I've often wondered how I, as a 12 year old, could recognize the danger, while others much older have absolutely no internal danger recognition mode at all.

It's reeealllly hard to feel sorry for people who's stupidity is the cause of their own demise. I do feel sorry for his sister though, that must've been horrifying to witness.

maybe they should have a japanese ero guro sign that says "you will die screaming, no one will help you, no one will retreive your bones, and the news will make fun of you."

He should have known better. RIP, but that's wasn't the smartest thing to do.

I was just out there in Yellowstone last month, only an idiot would soak in a geyser.

I could not imagine the first five seconds his brain realized Oh my God Im dead!

I was 9 years old when I was there and even I knew not to touch the water. Wtf was wrong with this dude?

I’ve seen a baby bison fall into a hot spring...pretty gruesome. It came up once then just got dissolved. I felt bad for the mother as it was pacing back and forth and making noises

You forgot to mention his sister was with him and filmed the whole accident (from other reports). She could not help him once he slipped in the hot, acidic water and filmed it. She went to get help and the next day they went to get his body but because the water was so hot and acidic no remains could be found. It must have been a terrifying, painful and horrible death to experience and watch.

The girl that just stuck her hand and feet in the hot spring and then ran off screaming it was hot has led me here ...smh

That's almost as bad as being burned alive. Imagine picking up a boiled chicken drumstick out the pot. The meat just slides right off the bone!

You get torn in two directions by an incident like this. Sorrow for the young man's horrific death, and wonder at his stupidity.

I read that he just graduated from college when he killed himself in the boiling and acidic water of the spring. Seems to me he didn't get much out of his college education and his family should ask for a full refund.

I am surprised people don’t throw ashes or dead people to cover their crimes or save on burials in the hot springs.

This makes a trip in a submersible to see the Titanic sound like a dream vacation.

They say you can’t fix stupid but that stupid got fixed.

A few years back at some hot springs near Mammoth Mt, CA, a couple of folks were in some local hot springs (used regularly), when there was a "thermal event" which sent scalding hot water into their spring and cooked both of them. There were other folks there, but not in the water, heard the screams and called 911. Sadly the first responders had to remove the bodies that had no flesh, only bone on their lower extremities. Not a pretty thing to deal with for those brave responders.

I feel horrible for him. He was not wise but his pain and last moments must have been so agonizing. Reminds me of a book I read - the section where a medical examiner explained her worst case: A man who was pushed into a manhole and into scalding water. He screamed horrible sounds in agony but could not be rescued.

It's a shame. Hopefully others will learn from this. Yellowstone has lots of things that can kill you if you don't follow the rules: Bison, Hot Springs, Waterfalls, Cold, etc

In some places the colorful water just sits quietly with no steam coming from it. It looks deceptively safe. I imagine it must be tempting to experiment and reach out with a finger. Even though the signs say acid water. Very sad outcome.

Just really sad ! There is a reason why they have rules when I visited yellow stone it was very clear how dangerous it could be too yr health. I will never understand the foolishness of people.

If this happened in Scotland, the family would probably start a go fund me page to get a park bench installed, as near to the site as possible, so that they could drape wreaths, flowers and Rangers or Celtic tops all over it, rendering it completely non-sitdownable on.

Even an idiot knows that steaming water is either boiling hot or freezing cold. What was this guy thinking? Oh, that's right,...he wasn't, so now he isn't.

Can’t help but think how conscientiously intelligent he was to remove himself from the genepool before doing some real damage to our society somehow. Good on you, sir.

Did he die instantly? I doubt it. In the book Death in Yellowstone, the author's first story is about a guy who dove head first into a pool in order to save his friends' dog, who had jumped in and started yelping terribly. The guy emerged, his skin cooked white, his eyes completely white. His friend, the dogs' owner, stepping in (burning his legs) to pull him out. The diver guys skin came off his hand like a glove, but he got ashore. They raced him to a hospital, where all they could do was give him morphine and IVs, in a desperate attempt to keep his body hydrated. Not having skin, you don't hold in water. I believe he lasted for many hours, but eventually died of dehydration. The park rangers were able to retrieve the dogs bones. The book is full of stories like this, but none of them describe the victim as dying instantly. I took my 10 yo son to Yellowstone a couple years ago, and I told him this and other stories. We actually met the author, who was signing 2nd edition copies of the book he's famous for. As for this guy? I can't feel to sorry for him, despite the horrible way he died. He was destroying the beauty of this park, as he thought his amusement was more important.

Strike one: Doing something illegal. Strike two: Sister filming it and not doing anything to stop said Illegal activity. Strike Three: Slipping from where he shouldn't be in the first place. Also my mistake for thinking someone who graduated from college actually was smart.

If he wanted to soak, they should have just went up by the state's north boarder to Boiling River. There's literally a parking lot and a path to enjoy the water. Much safer to find a good spot.

I heard he was checking the temperature of the water and then he tripped and fell. Medics were there but there was a storm so they waited but his body was already disintegrated.

How horrible. They should put up warnings everywhere they indicate you will dissolve into nothing if you get into the spring.
