Dave Flett is a criminally underrated guitarist. He put together some of the tastiest solos in rock yet hardly anyone has heard of him. His playing always fits the song, his solos enhance the song perfectly. Just an amazing player
Sorry, but you are mistaken! Dave Flett didn't play on this album, Mick Rodgers did. He combined singing and guitar playing. It's just for your information. Flett joined MMEB later in 1976 and played on 2 albums "Roaring silence" and "Watch". However, I agree with you that Dave Flett was a great guitarist too!
I first heard this track when I was 15. I'm 61 now and still listen to Nightingales & bombers album from time to time. The guitar solo on this particular song makes my soul and my mind soar up high in the sky just like a spirit in the night.🌌
At 74 Manfred one of the best bands, everything I listen to this album it does something to my soul.. where has all this music gone... so many people will never hear these great tracks.. sad.. sad..sad..
Man ... two days straight on a bus. Knees aching. Girls behind me haven't shut up for literally three hours. This song on full volume on my headphones is saving my life right now.
Blitzkrieg, is my favorite cover- remake (and a couple others) by my favorite /metaL\ band - is similar for me this version of Spirits is one of my favorite songs from my childhood
Great cover, intense imagery and atmosphere. Close your eyes and you'll be right there at greasy lake. they're still looking for crazy davey. thx bruce springsteen.
Well said. Similar to many Bob Dylan songs. Reminds me, someone asked Dolly Parton what do you think of Whitney Houston recording your song 'I will always love you', she replied I wish she had recorded more of my songs, I would have made a whole lot more money...
i really, rrealllee love 💜💚💙🔹💠🔹 this version AM 1450 KBPS PDX , Oregon played this tonight it's nice to be able to listen to my oldies music online when i'm not around the radio 📻
One of the best songs from this album. I was listening to this in high school in 1979 and have never forgotten this great sound. Get the CD or whatever if you don't have it. It's a classic
I graduated in '79 and heard this on the radio tonight. Wow, a bunch of memories come rushing back! What good times we had. It's crazy how songs take us straight back, huh? Fun, innocence, freedom, laughter, sexual exploration. Nothing but good times!
Manfred is one of the best!Perfect!!!C
I forgot how much of a badass song is this. it's been more than 20 years since I've heard it. we have two classic rock stations here but they don't play good stuff like this.
Yeah, the so called "classic rock "stations around here don't play it either.Once in a while Springsteens version, but I'll bet it's been over 30 years since I heard this one.I forgot all about the trippy instrumental break.
Classic rock stations usually thrash 3 albums from 3 artists to death, and give the rest of the classic canon short shrift as the remainder of their playlist is a handful of compilation double albums from the 70s and 80s. Correcting these buggers takes stronger words than dealing with a youtube troll
@Buzz Doubt The question, considering all the great music out there, is "WHY?" I guess it came out in the musical malaise of the post-classic rock era that ended with the release of "E Pluribus Funk" when Grand Funk Railroad went from blues-rock jams to commercialized pop. ugh.
That's right Loved this song since Nightingales & Bombers has been released back in 1976. Just FYI The lyrics based on a short story Greasy Lake by T.C. Boyle.
@gordon mathew talk about straight line power and speed my father had that car when he turned 16 then when I turned 16 he sold his Harley when I was 15 1/2 I would live to have either one now but most of all I would rather have my dad.

I first heard this on KAAY 10.90 AM Little Rock..... We'd drive out in the country, in northern Illinois, and pull over by a corn field where we could receive the channel. Drinking beers and wine.... It was like going to another world. Songs that couldn't play on daytime radio, and this was our favorite. It is still one of the greatest covers I have heard :-)
David Young I remember that station! Late at night they would play stuff nobody else played. First heard "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" by The Mothers of Invention on the station. We could pick it up down in Lafayette, LA at night. They had a large range!
guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, vocals ... everything is so laid back. and yet this what makes my mind wonders. flying from empty place to empty place.
Hola amigos.
There was old blackwater pond down the holler from us. great place to party in the 70's. this song came and we started calling it Greasy lake. it's still called that today
About 35 years ago I met Manfred and his Band after a Concert in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart in their Hotel - we have had a lot of fun, playing Flipper and helped the Bassist drinking his Whisky Bottle :) - very good times and very good people !!!
Yeah, a period of hangers-on. Pretexting that love and property should be free, layabouts chose not to work but to live off the back of others naive enough to give
A good number of 20 somethings hear music like this and say they were born in the Wrong Time. They say how lucky I was to have grown up as a kid listening to all the cool 60's and 70's music. They are so jealous when I tell them of bands I saw live back in the 70's.
I used to love the Springsteen original for many years. Then I heard this. Not only does it completely blow the original out of the water, but it's among the greatest cover versions ever. And this was before their also amazing cover of "Blinded By The Light."
