Been playing melee again and coming back fresh brings a lot of clarity. Love revisiting this analysis, feels like I'm getting more out of it this time around
I've gotten started in melee finally after watching for over 6 years. I play falco and I'm just now beginning to be able to somewhat reliably integrate wavedashes, usually to bait a wiff punish or to just reposition. I can get some very simple dair shine pillar combos and I'm getting my lasers pretty reliable. I beat a lot of people on slippi and I lose to a lot of people on slippi. I'm excited to watch your videos as I learn melee along side them. really enjoying this game but man is learning the tech skill hard lmao. I'll keep practicing though. bout to start working on wave shining now.
It's a great game. DI makes it the best fighting game ever IMO. I play Yoshi against a Falco I live with --- yalls run speed is so damn slow lol Don't be daunted by the techskill BTW. I know you're not, I'm just saying. If you practice mindfully, instead of just letting the fingers run it, you'll already be 10 times the player that I am The question is: How do you play, if it's not just spamming techskill? Fuck if I know lol
Sliding your finger across "A" after pressing "B" to get to "X/Y" to jump is fine btw. Just an FYI in case you were finding the motion hard to wavedash quickly after the shine. Edit: I would strongly recommend learning how to short hop by sliding the finger across the edge of "X/Y" and not trying to just tap it to short hop. After sliding off the jump button you can quickly try to make your way to use the C-stick for an airial move.
@@asdfasdf969 I love the Neutral with falco. His lasers are so powerful and even though the dash speeds sucks, Falco is so fun as you have all the tools to control the pace but, it's up to you. You want to stay within about roll rage on most characters which adds huge pressure to them and makes things dangerous for you. I love that aspect of Falco. The first time I laser'd in, wavedash back, short hop ff laser, dash dance out, wave dash in and shined........Man. Nothing like those little moments with falco. Keep in mind i'm new so I'm not speaking from a teaching you about falco point, just talking about how I understand him currently. maybe staying in roll distance is bad idk lol
@@KalebSDay man I see the benefit to what you are telling me but, it's so frustrating. I feel like I learned short hopping pretty well, fairly consistent but now learningg the sliding method is like learning it all over again. I'm sure it's worth it in the long run though but it sucks to feel like I'm going backwards lol
walkup shine is a really good option imo. sets you up for a cc shine if you mess up the timing coming late, and it's a really smooth opener. plus if you do it on shield, the input for a shine grab (this is prolly unique to certain grips, I have trouble with the input, but this usually helps me slow down before the execution test).
IBDW is one of the scariest players in the game. When his Vyvanse prescription is filled he is unstoppable. (That's a joke) However Zuppy is the new player I'm worried about. It's more that I'm worried the future of melee is using box controllers. Which I am not a fan of.
Magnifying-glass damage. You receive damage when you are out of the camera's boundaries but not past the blast zone. The camera tries to keep both players on screen but sometimes moving too fast out of the camera's boundaries will put you in the magnifying glass.
Thanks for the perspective, don’t exactly agree with everything said but overall great video and really appreciate giving your analysis of the set, always nice to see what those at higher levels of play think.
@@SsbmGinger just in general the way you view the game, and analyze certain situations. when I talk to most top players it feels like you guys in general look at the game as a science, and try to be optimal in every situation, regardless of how fun it is. I play play the game too, and I’m definitely new compared to you, but it just feels like the brand of melee that mango plays is different, and that there’s more to it than just the science. I’m obviously really bad compared to you, so I probably just sound like a hopeful idiot or something, but I would be down to talk sometime about it. Idk, but mango personifies to me that you don’t have to strive to be perfect or optimal in every given situation to be one of the best, and that you can still be good at the game playing your own more creative game of melee, maybe I’m not good enough yet to see the whole picture but I’m still hopeful.
Mangos recoveries are so good, he gets so many more chances than other players He's also good about not diving in from disadvantageous positions, like when he's just landed back on stage
@@Coolbeans554 he's simply analyzing situations and giving his opinion on what's best. mang0 is also an optimizer, the community perception of him as someone who just completely wings it hasn't been accurate for many years.
@@Coolbeans554 mango is just as scientific as everyone else; it’s just that his science is drenched and hidden in bad-assery so it slips by. he can’t tell you how many frames falco has to hit a shine on fox, but he can feel it just as well if not better.
