“The truth don’t play no favorites- bite on that, Jack!!” might be tied. And of course “I’ve got the eye of the tiger and I don’t know who to kill first” is just pure metal. Like that could be a song title where it’s never said, just a thrash instrumental.
I swear, every damn clip I've seen Manson speak in over 40 years, he ALWAYS says something about "your children"! Which is why every time I hear that line in this sketch, I guffaw uncontrollably like a donkey.
Hmmm...basic three wall set with a background flat, existing exterior location (looks like the Disney Golden Oak ranch), relatively few setups--nothing in there screams budget-blowing, compared to some of their more elaborate sketches.
How did something this deranged ever get on mainstream, non-cable, prime-time TV? Sheer Absurdist genius. Hands down the best thing Ben Stiller ever did.
The early 1990's were a lawless time... Fox television came out with this and "The Edge" and Beavis would appear shortly thereafter.... they're gone but still live on in the archives
Really?!?! Stiller is not even in this. Odenkirk obviously ruled this sketch and overall Odenkirk star has shined brighter than Stiller's did in the Television medium. Mr. Show was brilliant...
@@beinrichbimmler7829 “The Edge” was probably slightly more risky, as it came out on a bigger network and had a larger cast (with Jennifer Aniston and Tom Kenny as newbies).
Imagine being in the writer’s room with Odenkirk in full Manson-mode!!! This skit is perfect. No doubt many hilarious leftovers that didn’t make the final cut. 😆
Every couple of years I remember this skit and watch it again and laugh and laugh and laugh. One of the funniest comedy skits I've ever seen. Brilliant!
I love at the end of the sketch how important it was that they listened to Charlie Manson and that's how the problem was solved. Listening to Manson is how you solve problems. :) I have to find my DVD of this show.
That's the meta joke. Manson is right about a lot of things, if you listen. No, not a fan by any means; just credit when credit is due. The poor man was eaten alive by forces unseen. Call him crazy, sure; meeting the devil will do that to a person. Spare me your mental illness explanations. I can't show you, what you can't see.
@@lemonhead162I think it means that it was funny when it came out and it's still funny now. Most of the skits from this show weren't ever really that funny and they certainly aren't funny now.
The Ben Stiller Show is one of those underrated short lived classics that launched the careers of almost the entire cast, not unlike the Richard Pryor show 15 years earlier
Ahh Charles Manson. I love Bob Odenmkirk's imitation. Charlie was pretty much that. Schiphrenhic. Delesuional paranoia. Charasmatic. This is a great bit! Good stuff!
The genius of this skit is realizing that the intelligence needed to interpret Lassie's barks and body language would probably be the same required to decipher Charles Manson's ramblings.
This has to be what my mom meant. I was too young to talk but when I was a baby I saw a skit show where Manson was lassie she said and I laughed hysterically. She said I understood nothing but laughed. This has to be it. I almost pissed my pants.
Man, the Ben Stiller Show is pure 90's nostalgic bliss. It's absurdly great. Janeane Garofalo, Andy Dick, and Ben Stiller were the comedy dream team for me growing up.
This is right up there with the best of the 90s. Austin Stories also had some great moments back then. I think they were both within a couple years of each other.
I must have been under Timmy's rock all these years never to have seen this video. Bob Odenkirk is genius and quirky-perfect. Super production on all counts. @blastingcaps, it's clear the boat left you at the dock!
