If Tim was the rock that held it all together, Tony the engine that kept the team running, then Manu was the heart of the team. When they're winning you look at Tony. When it's close you look at Tim, but when they're down and needed something, that's when you look at Manu.
What some fail to understand is this man's drive to win and compete was that of the likes of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. I watched this man give his entire being to the spurs for literally 3/4 of my life. I modeled my game after him, I am passionate and fight for everything in my life from seeing his tenacity. He is my Michael Jordan, he is my hero. And I'm just this little kid from San Antonio, now a grown adult trying endlessly to fulfill my dreams. Manu, you may never read this but from the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything. There are many like myself who you have inspired through a basketball game, but to me you have been a role model and showed me what it looks like to give everything you have to accomplish what you set your heart out for. Gracias Manu.
What ?????? Anthony Mason and Charles Oakley also wanted to win more than life.. So why you ain't vouching for them to be h.o.f ????????????????????????????????
@@alb4271 Manu came off the bench ... Oakley started his whole career including on Chicago.... Mason was the first point forward in NBA.. anothony Mason created the point forward position.... Charles Oakley was the 2nd strongest player in the league .. behind Kevin Willis by 2 reps.... But you can hush your ignorance now..... Stephen Jackson, and Sean Elliot and even Mario Ellie was the starting 3's on the spurs. Manu started after those 3 small forwards left for higher pay 🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🤷👎
"He believed that he had to adapt to the rhythm of the NBA, but the truth is that we had to adjust to him. If Manu and the Spurs hadn't gotten involved, I would have 10 rings”. Kobe Bryant
Translation of Manu's thanks in Spanish: "Sepo and Lea, my brothers, thank you for clearing the way for me. Thanks for the inspiration, you pushed me when I was a little kid because I wanted to be like you. Dad... How I wish you were here... So you can understand what is happening today. My first faithful and greatest follower. I miss you, I miss you so much daddy... I miss you... Mom! Mom, I know you're watching over there. It took me to have three sons to understand the sacrifices you made for us for so long. The effort, the dedication, the love in actions, the freedom to choose. Thanks mom." Personal note: This guy is a true example. His greatness is shown more than in his achievements, which are many and exemplary in themselves, in the way he did it. His unique way of playing, his intelligence and originality, his commitment, humility, effort, love for the game, his teammates, teams and country. Gracias totales Manu!
As a Brazillian, it was kinda weird to have a Argentinian as a hero growing up, but Manu was my childhood hero, watching him play made me a Spurs fan, a basketball fan, and to see him having this accomplishment makes me really proud and happy, he's legendary and eternal.
You did have a fare share of talent too. Oscar Smith was HUGE, and Maciel Periera y Hortencia Marcari did extreme well too. Weird thing to say as a native from Argentina. See you en Qatar, no prisoners there! :p
That 2014 group was simply the greatest "team" in the history of sport. So many nationalities and continents, so many friendships, so much talent, yet so little ego and nonsense. Never will be repeated.
That's basically every championship spurs team, they were never an ego driven team, everyone did what was expected of them, with no bitching no matter how big or small their tasks were. Some guys were supporting players, and others were the ones that had huge roles, but all of them gave 100% and if they didn't they're ass was traded, like Stephen Jackson who still cries about Pop, or Kawhi Leonard Mr. Milk an injury.
The way they played in that finals, shooting over 75%, passing relentlessly with Kawhi playing elite D, they would have beaten any team in history. That’s not to say they were the greatest team overall, but for that one finals series…unbeatable.
The only international player with Euroleague Championships, an Olympic Gold Medal, Multiple NBA Championships, and the only one who caught a flying bat with his own darn hand. Manu, I hated you as a rival of my Mavs Team, but I loved you as a player - a talented and passionate one.
To me, as a Spurs fan who watched most of the Big 3 era, Tim Duncan is undoubtedly the best player of the Big 3, but Manu is the one I admire and respect the most. Being drafted in the late 2nd round, with nobody knowing who he even was when he got drafted, he worked his way to become one of the core pieces of not only a championship team but a dynasty among the world's most talented basketball players. When being compared to Tim Duncan or Tony Parker, he was not any less talented or important than them, each of them had their unique skillset which contributed to the Spurs' success, but he's the one who got the least fame and attention due to him willing to sacrifice to come off the bench as a 6th man. Without him, the Spurs wouldn't be able to be as dominant as they were. I've heard many people said that Manu was not a franchise player or superstar, but IMO, he could easily be the franchise player and leader of another team if he wanted to and get a bigger paycheck, but he chose to stay with the Spurs to achieve greatness with Tim Duncan and TP and Pop which wouldn't be achieved anywhere else. That's why I admire him the most. Thank you Manu for what you've brought to all Spurs fans and basketball fans!
Numbers back up the claim of him being able to shoulder a bigger load quite efficiently without Tony and/or Tim on the floor. True All Nba level player at his best. Even as a bench player he played at an all star level for years. What an incredible talent and person. Go Spurs.
I don't even speak a word of Spanish, and yet his speech for his family got me to tears. That's how much of his heart was in all of what he said. Gracias Manu!
My countryman, Patty Mills, made me watch the Spurs during their run against the Miami Heat. After that, I was a Manu fan. God damn this man did literally everything on the court. His greatness contributed to the NBA paying attention to players from Europe, Australia, The Mediterranean, and everywhere as potential NBA recruits. Congratulations, Manu Ginnobli! Thank you for some of the greatest basketball we have ever seen. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
Manu may be the humblest superstar ever. We all know what he did in both FIBA and NBA, but he always treat himself as if he was an apprentice and never pursue for personal honor. I think he is such REAL teamwork player (not just do assisting for stats but make teammates better in different aspect) that everyone would like to play with.
I'm very proud to have been able to witness him in the court during so many games with the Spurs and the Argentina National team. An amazing player and also an amazing human being. Well deserved place in the Hall of Fame.
@@kingking8768 Racism in favor of a Southamerican? Wow, that's some mental gymnastics. Two things: first of all, it's the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame, not just the NBA. Manu's carrer involved WAY more than just his NBA years. Just to mention his accomplishments outside the USA: Olympic gold in 04, and bronze in 08, silver in the world championships in 02. Then Euroleague champion and MVP in 01 during his time in Italy. Second, watch some actual games and look outside of the stats sheet. Manu's game was more than that. Basketball, or almost any other sport, is more than just numbers. He was the heart of those San Antonio teams, his contribution was HUGE. But I don't think we'll ever agree on that.
Congratulations my idol Manu Ginobili. You are very humble kind and respectful on and off the court. Im inspired by you to play and watch basketball. For me you are best player to ever play. Enjoy your new journey in life with your family. Gracias Manu. Godbless
Top 3 SG of all time, after Jordan and Kobe. Without a doubt. The highest winning %, the skills, the clutch plays, the humbleness, the longevity, the never give up mindset, the championships. His role and relevance can't be measured by stats. What this guy played, achieved, and SACRIFICED just for the sake of the team will be unmatchable. He even brought to the NBA an unique move.
Somehow I could hear Charles Barkley screaming "Ginobiliiiiii!" because I want to do so, too. Best South American player ever that played in the NBA. Well deserved to be in the Hall of Fame.
Dammit, Manu! Why did u make me cry?!? My favorite player ever... You deserve this moment. You were monumental in galvanizing this San Antonio community and forever will be a son to us. This city will ALWAYS instinctively understand what ALL is behind the yell we know so well..."MANUUUUUUUUUU!!!" The Godfather of the Euro-Step, so many memories, my son associated your name to the number 20 before he could count that high and watching that squad play on TV would be the only thing that would calm him, seriously. I thank you for being you... GSG!!!! PURO PINCHE SPURS!!!
Such a class act, father, husband, son and player. For those of you that don’t understand Spanish he was just addressing his father (I’m told he is sick)and mother. Manu, you were so much fun to watch and I knew from game one in the NBA against the Lakers that you were going to be something special. Viva Manu! Viva Argentina! And VIVA LOS SPURS!
His gem of a mention of his bolognese team (coached by coach Messina) and his title there were so great too. Ginobili and Kukoc are two of the greatest euro and also specifically italian league players ever.
Manu!!! Incredible player!! CLUTCH Played with a broken arm in the playoff! played with his heart!! The spirit of the game was with you every time you played. Thank you for the memories!
Love every part of the speech specially when Manu address it in Spanish for his parents and ultimately for his wife and kids... Congratulations champ. Well deserve to be part of the HOF Class of '22
I don’t have many idols in Sports, but Manu surely is one of them. Thank you Manu Ginobili for being an example to the World by showing us how you win the right way. With passion, humility, and being a team player first and foremost. Your legacy will live forever in the NBA. A Hall of Famer indeed!
I live in china and one of my ex students fav player is manu. Guess this shows just how great he was as a player. He wasnt a superstar that grabbed the headlines or put up the crazy numbers, hell, he wasnt even a starter and even then, there r ppl here who loved him more than any other player. Congrats manu, one of the few u can say was truly a class act on and off the court.
As a TWolves fan, I had a natural hate for the Spurs but man did I respect the hell out of that organization. I’m glad I took the time to appreciate Timmy, TP and Manu and what they did during their playing years. They were the most well-oiled machine. Big shout out to Pop as well as he had ALL his players move as one unit. Truly no one was bigger than the game and the goal of winning a championship year in and year out. Congrats to Manu… deservingly honored into the HOF.
Manu, Tony, Tim, and Pop are all deserving of all the basketball accolades they get. But we MUST remember that it all started with David Robinson. After the '99 championship, Tim was seriously looking at going to Orlando. I know that there were several factors in Tim's decision not to go, but certainly a major one was David getting on a plane in the off season and going to have a heart-to-heart with Tim.
im so glad i was able to watch those spurs team for almost 20 years, watching them all in the same room together again feels nostalgic. Those spurs team is one of the reason why i grow to love the game. They also help me understand the game.
As a Laker fan I have the absolute and profound respect for Manu Ginobili. His will to win was the same as Kobe's. He is one of the most under rated players in the history of the NBA and I'm glad he is among the legends. He could of easily left for another team and averaged 25-30 points but he valued brotherhood and loyalty. The 2000s rivalry was epic. And how you put the nail in the coffin in 2013 was painful it was bitter sweet. Mad respect to the spurs and their big 3 dynasty. Cheers from LA.
A World’s Class Man, even before than a Basketball Superstar - thanks for all the moments that you made us living as lovers of this amazing game. Ad maiora!
Manu, you were always about the team. Thanks for all the basketball memories that you brought to us. You were definitely a true competitor. Ginobilli!!!!!
One of a kind. All Class. Relentless-Effort. Total team player. Great Ambassador of the NBA. Congratulations Manu . . . truly a H.O.F. Player. oNe LoVe from NYC
Manu is an inspiration to all of us. Classy, confident, warm, tenacious.. One of the all time greats we’ve seen in the NBA - both on a personal and basketball level. I loved watching him and this speech just made it so much better.
He is the most unselfish player/ person with so much class.. There will never be another big 3 combo... But there will never be another MANU. He to me is the best player with so much heart and talents. Always put the team first and knew how to close and win games and ALWAYS came through when needed the most knew how to make things happen...Smart talented and grateful most humble person. I can go on and on and on... As a spurs fan and fr San Antonio go spurs go... Thank you to his family and now it's your time to enjoy as much as we did. Thank you .. Love u Manu there will NEVER be another like you ❤️
I live in San Antonio Been around Manu at least 5 times I respected him as a man so much couldn't disrespect him with asking for an autograph. My favorite of all time. Clint Beastwood
Much props to Coach Pop for giving this dude a chance to be at this stage of his life,God bless y'all from all across the world and to all true spurs fans y'all should always give some cheers every once in a while and say thank you MANU!
I can admit as a Lakers fan; Manu, Tim, & Tony were the greatest BIG 3. They started as teammates, who became brothers and were led by a legendary coach, Pop. Can't wait to see Tony get inducted as well.
One of the corner stones during the Spurs 4 rings era with Parker, Duncan and Pop. What a team that was, so professional and smart. The Spurs made a really good draft pick there on no. 57 and what a crazy story that was.... Also I love his capability of spreading positivity. He's a legend and so important for this sport. Great speech, deserved Hall Of Famer!!
I believe that i speak for many Argentines, you have been the cause of many nights awake until 2 or 3am and then we had to go to school or the job half asleep the next morning, we followed your career in the NBA from the beginning and I think there is no better ending. Thank you for what you have given to national sport, for competing at the highest level for so many years, for being an example for a whole generation of teenagers who began to dream big, thank you for so many joys (especially the 2004 Olympics , I was hoarse after the buzzer beater against Serbia), thanks for everything Manu, you are a source of pride for all of us
I was big supporter and fan of the San Antonio Spurs Manu Ginbioli is one of the Greatest Players of all time Tim Duncan the greatest big man in NBA history I'm Glad to see him Enshrined in the NBA Hall of Fame gave him his 💐 and 🌹 🥀
That's real brotherhood none of them three wanted to jump to another team to win championships. They've stuck together for as long as they can. Win or lose. Happy retirement Manu 🥂
Congratulations Manu! As a Viola Reggio Calabria fan I was waiting this moment for so long! Thank you for the emotions you gave us in your entire career, you made many people feel proud to be a basketball fan! Congratulations again!!! 🏀❤️👏🇦🇷🇮🇹🇺🇸👏❤️🏀
Props to him for acknowledging himself as a cog in the machine we know as the Spurs and acknowledging the contribution of his former teammates.. His success is a result of playing it right.. No egos, just do your job and reap the rewards..
People will never truely how good manu is because he didnt play for stats or for personal accolades but he was the definition of a true winner nobody will ever take this away from him
