I think the slapshot by Greig was completely useless and inappropriate. On the other hand, crosscheck was a dumb move. You can take exception or send a message without a crosscheck to the head.
These players attack each other with cross checks to the head, then in 20 years they cry about CTE and concussions. Dont ever feel bad for athletes, ever. They are such a joke, they just have money, they aren’t special or important or even good people.

I can’t believe how many people analysts and people close to the game are saying it was appropriate. How is that response ok??? It’s ok to cross check a guy in the neck/head area. Give me a break guys. The people response would be go over and drop the gloves. I hope he gets an in person hearing and gets at least 10 games.
so many of these analysts are homers and so their bias can be pretty obvious. Last i checked the goal of hockey is to put the puck into the net using a stick, and its up to the player how they choose to shoot the puck as long as they don't throw or kick it in or deflect it above the crossbar. Doesnt matter how classless or disrespectful it was, he made a legal play slapshotting into an empty net so the league shouldn't be taking any of that into consideration. Reilly made a very dangerous hit to a player after the whistle when the extent of retaliation is in regards to a legal play of trying to score an empty net goal. Reilly should be getting a lengthy suspension for this.

There is no penalty for ‘slap shooting the puck into an empty net.’ Nothing wrong with getting under the other team’s skin. This is why your team loses every playoff series. They’re thin skinned, who either fold under pressure, or lose their cool when things don’t go their way. And crossing checking a person to the head after the play is dead is grounds for suspension. That act is bush league and not allowed.

i watched as a wings fan perron do this exact same thing to a player after larkin was knocked out on the ice and he got 6 games and it was labelled an awful play by perron, but these canadian announcers say "i dont think that play for grieg was needed at all" to try and soften how stupid and destructive reillys decision was......like stfu......call a spade a spade, he deserves atleast 6 games if thats what perron got. but its the leafs so hell get a fine

How is that only 5 games? A couple of seconds after the empty netter. 5 seconds left in the game and a stick to the head. 10+ games minimum. Players are getting 5 games for head shots during the game when the other guy has the puck. This was way worse unless you are a Leaf or Leaf fan in which case it was an appropriate response.
While the slapshot may have been unnecessary (though I personally love it!), the cross check TO THE NECK was very, VERY unnecessary. That was 100% intent to injure, maybe even kill! I hope Rielly gets a 10+ game suspension.
The cheapest thing about this is that Reilly knows this is the last game against Ottawa so he doesn't have to face the retribution from the Sens until all is forgotten(?) next year. True cowardly act.

If he did a spin-o-rama or showboated before scoring, I could see a reaction, but it's a slapshot! Years ago, a Dallas player missed an empty net goal and the Oilers took it the other way and tied it up with a few seconds left. Bury it and make sure you score.
