This might be my favorite technique of the three I've tried so far as it allowed for the most control over where the dye is placed. Candle dye is super vibrant in the IGI 4627 wax and the patterns remained detailed and intricate. Have you tried one of the marbling techniques yet? If so, let me know which worked best for you!

When you poured that wax, does that one tunnel in? No matter how slow I pour my paraffin it always tunnels
@candlescience
@candlescience 4 месяца назад
Paraffin does have a tendency to shrink a bit as it cools. Container paraffin wax is usually better with this than pillar wax but it can still happen. There was a slight dip here but nothing that required a second pour this time. If you keep seeing a dip after you pour the candle but before it is burned, you could try a heat gun or pouring a bit more wax in to level it out.

What temperature do you recommend for the wax to cool for the dying process?
@candlescience
@candlescience 9 месяцев назад
It can be tricky to tell the exact temperature of the wax before you swirl it but you'll want it to begin to cool a bit before tipping the jar. Paraffin wax tends to cool very fast so this may be a quick process. Once the candles are fully poured though, they tend to do well when stored in an environment where the temperature does not fluctuate much and is usually around 68°F-72°F.

This is beautiful! But will this affect how the candle will burn like will these colors over power the wick ?
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 месяца назад
Typically, no. Using a very large amount of dye can affect how the wick burns and it's always good to test but generally this amount should not cause issues.

I use powder pigment but it *looks pretty similar to dye when it’s melted. Could it possibly work to make marble or is liquid dye the only way?
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
I haven't tested it but I'd say it's worth an experiment! The powder pigment may adhere to the jar in a similar way or you may want to try mixing it with some liquid wax first and then "painting" that into the jars.

Can you use two different colours in the same candle?
@candlescience
@candlescience 4 дня назад
You can, yes! I'd recommend using colors that will go well together though because they will likely begin to blend together as the candle melts

I wouldn't recommend using thermocol glass for this project due to the potential for melting.

How about air bubbles?
@candlescience
@candlescience 4 месяца назад
Working slowly typically prevents air getting trapped in the wax with this technique but if the wax is too cool it could be more likely to happen. Generally, the candles will cool and burn as expected though!
@byy_aria
@byy_aria 5 месяцев назад
does this technique also work on soy wax?
@candlescience
@candlescience 5 месяцев назад
It can, yes, but it can be a bit trickier. Soy wax tends to cool much faster than paraffin or parasoy so it may take a bit to get the timing right. The dye may bleed and color the entire candle if the wax is too hot but if the wax is too cool, it will be difficult to get a skewer through at all. Dye will usually appear more pastel in soy wax and there will likely be some frosting eventually, which could affect the sharpness of the design.
