A lot of people seem to just be pointing out the fact that it's a risky pass, which it is. It'll definitely work if you're Marcelo but, like you pointed out, the average keyboard warrior isn't even a tenth as sharp.
According to all the Eddie Bravo fanboys, the rubber guard is the end all, be all of jiu-jitsu. The Karate Kid crane kick of jiu-jitsu. "No can defense."
I agree so far I can't find any videos that are suitable for the average practitioner but u can watch how Eddie rolls with his 10th planet guys he doesn't let them pull guard instead Eddie goes for good ol' leg locks. He does it while he's still high though meaning he is not sharp or at the peak of his powers. Another legit match was Imanari Vs Ben eddy, Imanari refuses to be pulled into Ben's guard and again shoots for leg locks. Should work for any purple belt and above practitioners. Tried it at my gym too works about 70% of the time but there are always some guys who are simply monsters at pulling guard so don't be discouraged and keep on practicing 😁
Even Eddie Bravo said that he couldnt do anything to Marcelo. Eddie said it seemed as Marcelo was just playing with him. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lY0PL5RYU8M.html
I was at a seminar with Shawn Williams. He was asked how to pass this, he simply said turn your thumbs in and just stand up. It works, uke falls right off.
@White Boy lmao. Buddy, theres a reason worlds, pan ams, ADCC, etc you dont see rubber giatf at the top levels. It's because its trash. All the top grapplers today outright say so.
@White Boy you must be trash too. Danaher is literally one of the top bjj coaches in bjj in our era. And in his closed guard dvd all he talks about is how classic closed guard is a high percentage offensive position. Again....show me all the 10th planet rubber guard players at adcc, or that won world and pan ams lmao. Your a butt hurt tplanet troll.
@White Boy Gordon Ryan doesnt think much of the rubber guard system either lol. Maybe a 10th planet bb should try it on him. Or maybe the 10th planet founder and creator of rubber guard cant try it on Marcelo....well we know all the outcomes now dont we.
@White Boy like I said. Its trash. Danaher himself said traditional closed guard is a high percentage offensive position that MUST BE MASTERED. show me a 10th planet win at worlds, pan ams, adcc....lmao. sorry bud, you've been wasting tour time drilling rubber guard.
For the people saying "just go to omoplata" he clearly shows in the first sequence to stand up and shake out of it. That's the whole palm up concept with his right hand.
The omoplata is more often than not where the rubber guard exchange is going to end up. Every position is a battle and it comes down to who is sharper attacking and defending. Like anything else
Below are 2 InAction Clips reflecting Marcelo's Lesson. In addition, there are 6 Lessons and over 50 InAction clips exploring Marcelo's method of answering Rubber Guard. www.mginaction.com/VideoDetails.aspx?VideoId=20549 www.mginaction.com/VideoDetails.aspx?VideoId=20558
i use this pass alot. i call it clinch passing. it also works against a traditional over hook guard with out the mission control leg. another trick you can do instead of ending up in half guard is when you get your left knee in @5.34 step on their right ankle with your left foot then sit your right leg through to side control. this pass is legit all the people in the comments who say otherwise are kidding them selves if they think they know better. Marcelo is the Boss
Prof. Garcia Sir. Is there a nerve point at inside hip going to more dig than slide. If you shifted weight to opposite nerve dig elbow or palm possible ....would knee slide be more prevalent and possible ....Sir. It's inverted in weight distribution but would throw off tactile feel of opponent as nerve pressure point with forceful knee slide into half or side control....Sir.
didn't eddie bravo himself say the rubber guard don't always work...I think that was the mastering the rubber guard videos...still a good tool to have when you need a few seconds to breathe...the lock down itself seems to piss people off when I would use it...respect to all..peace
He actually says that a lot of times people will get out, there's moments to pull out and make the bottom player start all over again... I guess that's the case with any game you're trying to play no? Nothing is 100% infallible!
This has always worked for me. you can allow your opponent to believe you are giving them an advantageous position when you understand grappling at the level some of us do, just to trap your opponent into your attack. its the equivalent of sacrificing your queen for the checkmate. its high level grappling
that's really cool, Marcelo is amazing. we have to keep in mind that rubberguard is designed for mma. in grappling has disadvantages, but once you can punch, is a different game.
If you watch him roll with Eddie bravo you can see this in action. First time it didn't go perfect and Eddie got jiu claw. But later on he shook Eddie off exactly like he shows here.
Hi Marcelo Garcia fans :) *I have a reasonably long torso, but short legs and short arms..* *Can anyone please give me some expert direction about which techniques are best and worst suited to someone of my physique?* *Any advice nomatter how small will be appreciated* Thanks in advance
Rubber guard is just a tool but a real good one. It's not kryptonite, it won't always work, especially against those with tons of experience. With that said, when it comes to any type of high guard, the philosophy I subscribe to is--aside from maintaining or getting back to good posture--smashing and pain. Make the guy on bottom's life a living hell. There's no rule against cross facing your opponent or putting pressure on your opponent's neck or mandible. He's going to think about the pain more than trying to advance his rubber guard position. And I stress pain, not injure or mame your training partners.
+Baseketballify usually reliance on pain allows people to get by without learning to use leverage. Be careful that you don't allow it to hinder you growing in guard passing. Check out videos of Eddie and Marcelo rolling. Marcelo is able to pass without using pain.
It's a different philosophy. You don't have to pass by using pain but you could. One can apply both leverage and pain. I don't really subscribe to the bjj principles. I'm more of a catch wrestler, in the sense of how I attack and striving to get out from bottom. My game is strongly influenced by catch guys such as Josh Barnett, Sakuraba, Fujiwara, and Neil Melanson. With that said, Marcelo is so great and he does things that everyone can learn from and add to their own game. Thanks for the video link.
@@afhostie Yea because its Marcelo lol How did Royler Gracie do? Oh yes Royler got owned....again. Eddie toyed with him. Eddie should compete his Jits is off the charts
Rubber guard is effective especially if you have long, strong legs, but it seems from personal empirical evidence that it has a high risk of causing long-term problems with the knee joint and lower back . The knee joint didn't evolve to bend and twist in such odd angles.
Temujin Tru Tru. Eddie bravo and Tony have knee surgeries from I suppose over use and hard twisting over time. I guess that one must take it easy training. And I mean easy.
If you pull on your ankle when playing rubber guard, it will be bad for the knees. But funny thing is that you really aren't supposed to pull on the ankle. It's about pinching the knee with the help of the arm on the same side as the knee. I had a mcl injury that I got from a badly timed knee slice pass, but still could easily play my rubber guard game
I've seen a lot of shitty rubberguard passes, but this one seems fairly legit. The man obviously isn't a rubber guard expert. A lot of the things he talks about are also weaknesses eddie talks about.
I think we've all been in this position. I have tried this many times before watching this video, although I have never really focused on maintaining the elbow parallel to your shoulder while pressing on uke's inner thigh/knee. Whenever I'm there, a strong push or someone with good leg control usually triumphs and I'm in the triangle choke, which happened to me last night. (I clasped both hands and went into the groin cutter, resulting in an escape once my knuckles reached his groin.) Looking forward to using this with Marcello's knit about keeping elbow/shoulder placement on uke's knee. Osu!
The Meat Hook wouldn't work. The meat hook isn't a counter to this, its used when you have your opponent in mission control and he's buckling up for safety (not giving you anything to submit with). You go for the meat hook to create an opening on the other side for the Triangle.
this is not passing rubber guard. this is passing mission control after the zombie. no one is going to sit in mission control all day. once you're in MC, you're trying to clear the neck, after which it doesn't matter if you're other arm is free, you're getting taken to the jiu claw
Watch the 54 minute video Eddie Bravo visits Marcelo Garcia and watch the entire roll. I think you'll see one or two good rubber guard attempts in that video
I would move to meat hook and work a variation from there (hindulotine is the one I would most likely go to in that situation). You're giving the other person an omaplata. Not only that, your base is weak so they can grab you and pull you on top of them, securing it. Be aware of that, don't be the guy the taps to an omaplata.
First of all, I was addressing anyone reading my comment, not just him. Also, he's not getting out of my rubber guard like that (by like that, I mean as shown in the video). If he does get out, it's because I let him and he's going to end up in something of my choosing. Also, I tap people all the time that are way better than me. I don't do it consistently but I do get them with this rubber guard stuff. It's because they don't run into flexible people with the leg strength of a body builder very often. You sound like a pathetic fan boy trying to make this into something it's not.
He will not smash my rubber guard using the technique used in that video for the exact reasons I mentioned. He will not smash Eddie Bravo's rubber guard using the technique used in this video for the exact reasons I mentioned. The exact reasons I mentioned are only a few of the reasons why this wont work, there are other reasons as well. Maybe he's mastered a way to jump out of hindulotine or omaplata (with a shaky base) that's waiting for him, but that isn't addressed in this video. So that makes this a very shitty fucking video and it challenges his skill level. It's amazing how emotional you fan boys get over this stuff, you should seek help.
As expected, you added nothing. You keep commenting, and keep adding nothing. Why are you continuing this conversation? You got nothing to add, you are not addressing the post. You are just fucking around with retarded fallacies. If there is one thing I'm certain, like you have nothing to add to this conversation, you most likely have nothing to add to the conversations you have in real life. If you were dead, the world would probably be a better place. Imagine if that poor cow you're chomping on tonight had to know it had to die for you.
I watched that video, I should have done it sooner. Anyway, you are wrong. He passed it twice. The first time Eddie smiled, he was fucking happy because he knew that pass lead to a twister. Nothing makes Eddie happier than the twister. When it came time to finish the twister, he let it go.Eddie clearly worships the guy. There was a second pass at 4:22, this was not the same pass in this video. There was no strong elbow to the inner thigh, there was no limp arm on the side.
For many here who say that this doesn`t work why when the king of planet 10 Eddie Bravo went to Marcelo`s academy got his ass kicked ? if this rubber guard shit and all his weed system is so good why didn`t he submit Marcelo ?
15 years younger, bigger and stronger. thats like asking why if marcelo is so great why did he get beat in the openweights. plus eddie has back problems as we all do when getting older. marcelo is the best pound for pounder of all time but his system is not as innovative or deep as 10th planet. eddie is a teacher and creative innovator, not really a competitor. marcelo is extremely athletic strong and has mad cardio
Risky...but not many other options to defend this thing I guess...another approach I use is to NOT allow my hand to touch the ground as I know he will be after the omoplata. So If is stall a little bit inside there...the opponet usually gives up and goes for something else.
I love Marcelo Garcia, and he is so good that he could probably pull that off. But this isn't the best rubber guard to begin with. You could counter this with a move that is called the meat hook. That move is generally learned at a Tenth Planet gym. Also if you did the rubber guard right, like getting more to the side and put pressure on the neck and or collarbone, you could go for a omoplate before he puts his knee on your right leg. And if he keeps holding your leg then his own technique comes into play, the Marceloplata ;)
I thought the point of the rubber guard was to prevent your opponent from striking you while leaving your opposite hand free? In this video the guy using the rubber guard isnt using his off hand at all. This doesnt seem very realistic
Actually she is not completely wrong. For sure Marcelo Garcia can do it or may be some guy with huge strength/technical advantage might be able to it but even with my crappy jiu jitsu level i have successfully prevented people from succeeding with this type of pass.
He should try it on bravo. Lol, I think he'll reconsider his pass. I know they have a video where they roll, but I never saw Garcia attempt to put this in action.
Larry Medina i think it is risky, you need to put your hands on the ground for it, which is where all the submissions come from. Sure Garcia could probably do it, Garcia could do anything. And sure it could be successful against someone who just started using rubber guard, but i don't think this would work at the higher level
Cyber Stein all he has to do is make another youtube video saying how this pass was a lie created by NASA and doesn't really exist and Eddie will believe it so he won't learn to defend it
Hey budd, you can found everything you want to know about that system here, on RU-vid, you can tape in "rubber guard mastering the system, eddie bravo's rubber guard, i'm not a Professional i'm just very familiar with eddie's techniques, and also a BIG jui jitsu fan, but you'll see by yourself just by watching two of his videos about the rubber guard how stupid that video above is
at that point when you put your elbow on top of your partner leg then your partner is not going to stay there and do nothing, he will immediately go to the omoplata or any of the other attacks, also after you put your elbow on top the leg he can still take the triangle, i am not very convinced on that pass
This worked on Eddie Bravo. Go watch their roll and listen to Eddies comments on it. Marcelo was just playing with him, while Eddie was dying to catch his breath the entire time. Too much heefer!
i would personally not let him get my hand to the mat by keeping it tight and then stack when he puts me in crackhead control and try my best not to get dead orchard arm bar'd. this pass is easily preventable
Watch this vid between Marcelo and Bravo. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t47_Urqs-RM.html During the first roll, Eddie puts on rubber guard three times and Marcelo gets out within 30 seconds each time.
a0kca1p I've watched it already, and I can name a few flaws that Eddie had that were easily exposed. 1: he left his leg spread out allowing Marcelo to push and pass, 2: Eddie is not the best at rubber guard
uy...this is not gonna be easy. This pass requires milli second coordination and a deep-feel for the other persons movements. the top guy has to know just how to place the elbow on the leg. The bottom guy isn't going to be just laying there like in this video. one or two wriggles or pumps from his leg and that leg is slapping your wrist right into your neck (like marcelo warned.). Marcelo can do this all day. don't know about the rest of you. lol
this is a load of crap. firstly when the arm is on the mat the 10th planet system now "double bags" which means that right leg bites the back and you grap the right foot with the left hand so that you cannot pass. Then your right forearm clears the neck on the your opponents right side of his neck and then you go to invisible collar without going past his left arm. then your screwed!. Btw this move is made for mma, if you cant the elbows and punches thrown you wint be thinking about that leg, all youl b tryingbto do is to stop the blows.
