I love the sound of Blossomise Ros and the tea towel is lovely but yes, use and enjoy. What a good idea to embrace some comfort reads while in pain and I loved the Moomins too including the tv series. You’re making me all nostalgic! Hope you heal quickly!

Thanks Jo. Have you read any of Jansson's fiction for adults? I like that too.

You have really been through the mill with your shoulder. I found soldier sailor so relatable. Soo glad you are enjoying your April reading. I’m hoping to start my people april book today

As you say it is absolutely relatable in way that I found a little scary but ultimately good.

Hi Roz. I hope you’re feeling much better. I suffer from chronic pain so I know it affects your reading. First of all, thank you for participating in March mystery madness. I have read Dennis Lehane before and I enjoyed shutter Island very much. I picked up the bee sting, but could not handle a book that size at that moment so I’m glad to hear it wasn’t for everyone. I’m very involved in people April and I’m enjoying it very much. I love your video. Aloha friend.

Thanks Marilyn. It's still pretty painful but should improve. The Lehane was fine. I enjoyed it. But it seemed out of place on a book prize list. Thank you for hosting a good readathon and for taking part in People April.

I hope you're healing up Ros x Several books I'm interested in here. Soldier sailor I'll definitely be reading soon. I'm very intrigued by briefly a delicious life. I've also been meaning to try Angie Kim's books for ages. I'm so glad you've read the heartstopper books!! I really enjoyed the housekeeper and the professor.

I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed Trollope on audio! I have access to the Timothy West recordings and really must start working my way forward. I loved The Warden-more than most people do-but somehow haven’t yet picked up the next one.

I have been working through the Barsetshire sequence reading just one a year and it has been an enormous pleasure. The sixth and final one ties a lot of loose ends delightfully. I don't always like audio for novels but Trollope seems to work better than some.

I love Moomins and the librarian at Nottingham library spotted my Moomin purse and appeared with a lovely biography of Tove Jansson on Friday that will be my next People April read 😊. Loved your wrap up. Hope your arm heals soon 😊

Thanks Debs. Love your librarian. There's a secret society of Jansson enthusiasts out there ready to spot each other. I think she had an interesting life so a biography will be good.

Hello Ros, so thrilled to learn more about UK authors through your channel and through this community. I feel like I am still stuck at Irish Murdoch, I have quite a collection of her books!

I am still so sorry about your shoulder. I can only imagine the pain you have to endure. I would use the tea towels. Life is too short to only look at things or hide them in a drawer, if they could bring you joy, every time you use them.

Sending positive thoughts that you feel better soon. I agree with you about Western Lane. I don't understand the venom directed towards it. I found it gorgeous and so touching. Its portrayal of grief is extraordinary. I'm convinced that some people heard it advertised as a book about squash and they decided to hate it before reading it. Of all books to DNF and complain about? I really don't get it.

Thank you Chris (is that right?). Yes I am mystified how anyone could miss the qualities of Western Lane. You may be right that the squash put people in the wrong frame of mind for the book.

I read ”Briefly a delicious life” about a year ago . I can only highly recommend it. If you are interested in chopin’s life as well as george Sand’s. But what I really remember is the way the author ”penetrates” into her characters ’s brains. It’s a very moving novel. We share’s Bianca’s face in the 15th century, it’s also written with a lot of sensuality. A wonderful discovery for me French reader...and musician.

It was a happy surprise reading this one. I loved Blanca as a character and a narrator. The setting was conjured up so vividly and the Sand Chopin story is intriguing.

Hey Ros! I found your channel through Kelly at Books I'm Not Reading tagging us both in the Booktube Oldie tag and I'm so glad I came and checked out your channel as I loved listening to you chat about your month and the books you read! The Housekeeper and the Professor sounds wonderful - I don't read a lot outside of YA and middle grade, if I do it's usually sci-fi or romance but I do enjoy the odd adult fiction (especially weird ones such as Isaac and the Egg!) but I especially love Japanese fiction (admittedly usually the cat centred ones!) so I'll keep that one on my radar for when I'm in the mood for one of those quieter sorts of books, even with the maths element haha!

I'm doing a slow reading year this year but I did read 2 short books and both I would recommend, both very impactful and both very different. First one was the blue book of Nebo, it's YA and I read it for Dewithon, it's recommended by toomanyheathers formally soggyexpat and it is an amazing speculative post apocalyptic books. The second was minor detail, difficult to read in places but set in Palestine/Israel dual timeline and reading it made me want to get to enter ghost soon (it was already high up my list after your review of it earlier in the year). Hoping to try and get to a book for person April but not decided which yet (slow reading year means I'm trying to do just one book in a readathon) I've already read strong female character last year and was blown away by how open, honest and unreserved a memoir of her life and experiences being an undiagnosed and recently diagnosed autistic woman. She's a very talented writer and I hope she writes more. I'm tempted by Anne Lister's diaries or Virginia woolf and vita Sackville west's letters as I've not read diaries or letters collections before but I may decide to go for something shorter. Looking forward to your April reading. I hope your arm/shoulder are getting better Edit - forgot to mention both of those book have trigger warnings, if your interested but unsure then please check trigger warning from a source you trust.

Minor Detail is a wonderful book even though distressing to read. For a short book it is so rich in ideas and emotions. It has remained seared into my head since I read it. I started the year with the intention of being less driven by reading events too and planning maybe one book inspired by them each month. It's been partially successful. Absolutely agree about Strong Female Character. What a brave book. The Woolf - Sackville West letters are tempting.
