Hi from Sweden. This is the first time I have really come to grips with Marcus swing , and the one tip that solved it for me is when you said leave your weight on the back leg until you have hit the ball. And staying there is possible because he has the ball further back in the stance.Thanks ! Look forward to your videos .

Enjoy your channel...good balance of humor and technical moments. I live in the states and have been subscribed to Marcus' channel for well over a year. You have his swing dialed. Don't forget to stress that Marcus likes to play with the ball back in his stance. I noticed you've nailed that part as well. If possible I'd love to see you film one of your rounds utilizing his push technique. Keep it up....looking forward to the next video!

Amazing that you are doing exactly what I am doing with Marcus Edblad instruction. I opened my stance a lot and found it really helped my hip rotation. Put an alignment stick at your heels with your open stance and you will find you are lined up perfectly with your target. I also look at the inside of the ball which to me is 7:30, then move my eyes to the opposite side of the ball which I think of as 1:30. This helps me swing through the ball instead of at the ball. Great channel!

Every Pro stays on his right foot until impact, watch them and you'll see that the right foot does this push move at impact, then releases after impact, almost a 2 part thing. It's nothing new, why do you think that Ben Hogan had an extra spike fitted to his RIGHT golf shoe? Jack Nicklaus advises to roll the right foot THROUGH impact before lifting it, same deal.

Thanks for bringing this method to us Chad. I posted this on his last video where he mentions you are testing his methods. "Hi Marcus. Your method has grabbed my attention (I follow Chad GTD). I'm a 60 yr old, 7 handicapper--I haven't played for 4 weeks due to injury. On Friday I swung right with an early release and pumped it 245 meters (no warm-up). My first 4 drives were the same then I started overthinking it. Today I applied your concept to my irons and I birdied 2/4 short holes. I have tried the Steve Pratt/Mike Austen release before, I'm also an avid Channel Lock enthusiast (playing off the trail leg). I've had a lot of success with both but there was always the odd shot I would (under pressure) push straight right. Today I set up with my specific CL stance and then concentrated on the trail hand push and left wrist scoop....aah--what a pleasure to see a 4-iron take off with a sharp crack like an Exocet missile to the right with a gentle draw. The problem is I flew 3 greens today (our best "miss" on our course is always short) because I'm flushing the irons and added 10 meters to each club. What a nice problem to have. Thank you so much. Do you have a website? I want to follow your Mesquite/long driver odyssey...I think you're going to rip it..."

@gatgolf
@gatgolf Год назад
Philip, I too have had some success with the Steve Pratt/Mike Austin throw the clubhead early release, For me the difference here is with that method I was still picturing the swing as an around the body rotation. With this one I picture the swing path as almost linear from behind me to the right to in front of me to the right. Just swinging on that line and allowing rotation to just happen naturally. For me its a more effective intention.
@Pooler29
@Pooler29 Год назад
@@gatgolf Absolutely 100%. It's now effortless to square up the longer irons and woods. It's amazing the distance you get when you start flushing it out the middle. From 8-iron down to wedges, the right-hand push doesn't have to be so pronounced. I've never hit fairway woods as I did on Sunday...which suddenly changes the dynamic of a par 5. I'm now chipping my 3rd shot as opposed to full wedges and 9 iron. I teed off the whole round with a 5 fairway wood and I kept up with my playing partners hitting drivers...plus I was mostly on the short grass.

@thomasfraser9072
@thomasfraser9072 Год назад
I believe this Marcus method has over 90 percent of John Hensby’s Channel Lock in it. The only difference is JH taught: 1. To first aim your club head squarely to your ball directly at your intended target and to have your ball more center or closer to your trail foot. 2. Just before you swing the weight of your club over your trail shoulder you should close your lead shoulder to block your target. 3, Swing the weight of the head of the club inward over your trail shoulder and then with your trail hand swing the weight of your club outward extending your trail arm as you allowing your body to unwind automatically. For me Channel Lock works perfectly around the green. And takes about 1&1/3 second Otherwise I simply pull the weight of my club over my trail shoulder then pull the weight of my club under my trail elbow to over my lead shoulder. That’s it! This produces a nice fade for me and is all done in 1&1/3 second. If I need to draw my ball Marcus and or Channel Lock system works great for me as well. Cheers 😃👍⛳️🥂

This swing method is great for "experienced" golfers. Feels strange but it works! No holding angles or as much worry about positions. Frees up your swing and let's you focus on the target. Found you can take off some of the draw spin if you need to by starting with a slightly open club face. So much easier on the body with this swing. I too had great success with Mike Austin method and feel this is similar but much easier to hit a draw!

Ok Chad...believe this or not, but I started keeping my eyes behind the ball (like you demonstrated) about 2 months ago and you're right...it works! Haven't tried the rest of the Edblad method yet, but it seems pretty similar to what I've done naturally for decades. It seems to help me to keep the trail foot weight on the inside of the foot or on the center. If the weight goes to the outside of the foot, results are not good or consistent. By the way, I like the new backdrop.

The open stance and ball position allows me to swing more in to out. My miss which is a pull draw is gone. Which means I will hit most fairways and greens next week. This is one of my favourite videos. Having watched many of Marcus's videos recently I am trying to implement his instruction. This video helped clarify many things. 1) weight on back foot. 2) slightly open the stance (this is massive) 3) swing out to right and toe up. I have had some excellent results so far. Ball not travelling as far as I would have hoped, but the shape is certainly getting better. I am usually an over the top swinger and this has helped me tremendously. @jackfry9123 Год назад
I'd say just keep creeping the ball back in your stance a tiny bit at a time and you will know when you are finally there (with the irons). It's just a matter of getting it far enough back that it's impossible to do anything but hit it straight or have a small draw (because the ball is so far back you will not be able to cut across it and impart slice spin). When you get to that point the only other thing you must make sure of is to not be late with the release.
@GolfTestDummy
@GolfTestDummy Год назад
It's just a matter of time and trying little tweaks. Try making swings without the ball. Find your consistent low point first, and then learn to place the ball BEFORE the low point. From there, don't manipulate your swing, just let it do the same thing as when the ball wasn't there.

It has similarities to Channel Lock swing. Marcus has a lot of videos on YT to view. I have been using his swing with driver for a few months. I didn't happen instantly ,but when I got it, the distance gain was worth it. I am 10 days out from right hip total replacement, so for the next few months once I get back to playing, I will probably revert to JV swing with weight on my good hip. In contrast a senior player with a left hip/ knee issue, might benefit from this swing or channel lock method ( trail side) weighted. For example, my wife tried the JV swing method/ stack& tilt , but it aggravated he left knee ski injury. Thanks for your enquiring mind Chad. I have really enjoyed following your journey, taking up some ideas and discarding some that were not a good fit with what worked for me.

Hi Chad, Clearly, the protocol mechanical geometry principles of the "Channel Lock" swing are endemic in this swing derivation of the Channel Lock swing. What was surprising to me was the fact of you not relating to in any intrinsic detail relative to what I believe is the absolute geometric lynch pin of the swing principal application.. that being the 'trail foot ball position at address/impact'. In order for the weight to remain in the trail vertical body axis coming into.. and at impact .. it is body structure position imperative that the ball is positioned off the trail foot at impact in order for the club path to tack itself in to out at impact with the degree of transversing angularity across the target line at impact necessary to start the ball away from the target line .. and manifest the push draw ball flight.. every time. In order to achieve the degree of in to out/across the target line at impact.. the shoulder girdle must be in a state of closure at impact.. that can never be guaranteed with a forward of body center ball positioning at address/impact.. the ball must be positioned off the trail foot to ensure the shoulder girdle will always be closed at impact.. hence I think that part of the swing foundational structural application is really the 'Atomic Particle' of the swing structure. I know you were clearly doing an 'introduction' explanation of the swing principle and obviously will be doing follow-up videos with more in-depth structural information about the swing .. which I have no doubt the trail foot ball positioning aspect will be a big part of your swing project analysis. I must congratulate you on your new video presentation visuals .. the quality of audio and the picture definition is great.. an indoor setting always helps with sound and visual control consistency doesn't it.. and as always your verbal presentation is clear and concise in explanation..keep up the journey of investigation and learning of all things Golf Swing.. as you and I know only too well .. the Golf Swing will always be a journey of exploration that will have no final destination...which I personally think is the real lure of the journey. cheers JH

@jhensby1
@jhensby1 Год назад
Hi Chad, Looking forward to your next video.. I think your diligence of approach to the explanation of a Golf Swing derivation of applied mechanics/dynamics/geometry will always be beneficial to the rank and file Golfer...different slants on basic principles of a swing theme are always good for the variance of uptake that golfers in general have. The coupling of the swing geometry you are espousing in this specific swing type and the Channel Lock base swing principles.. will definitely reinforce to Golfers the swing's unique potential for obtaining a consistent 'starting' direction ball flight Golf Swing. I am sure you will provide a great support vehicle to the 'Locker' clan with your explanation insight of the swing dynamics/geometry etc that you will be continuing to explore in your coming videos ...every new discovery in every field of sports dynamics has benefitted from an amalgam of research development.. simply equated.. the more minds investigating the subject.. the more complete and refined the analysis becomes... Cheers .. JH

Hi Chad - Would you mind answering a quick question? I have watched all of your videos on Marcus Edblad and have been down a rabbit hole with his and your channel over the past 4 months. My misses are constantly the push out to the right and its not drawing back to the left. (sounds like you had a similar issue that you highlighted in a video). Is that because my grip needs to be stronger or am I not releasing early enough, which is what you realized? Do you use a slightly strong grip when you hit the draw with this method? I am just trying to figure out the push draw and how to get more of the draw then the push without overcooking it and causing a pull hook so trying to see if its just a grip issue or if my timing of the release needs more practice. Thank you for your help!

I will give it a try if it works to or me I will stay with it as rotation is an issue, as I have foot drop on my right foot. Iam left handed so its my front foot. I really don't know what swing method I use. It must not be the prettiest because it goes in streaks where total strangers at the range will come up to me and try to correct my swing. Or they say, don't know how you do it but your straight with good distance. I have olny 2 swing thoughts. Compress the ball with forward shaft lean. Keep the face and swing path square to the target through the impact zone.

@timothypollock8358 Год назад
You're well on the way to becoming the most interesting golf guy on youtube after that pants promo :-) Kidding aside, I've found that the modern stretch integration in pants is definitely a major plus especially as I've gotten far better at stretching them in general (even without doing much). The swing is looking very good in many respects and you are really slinging the shaft which is one of the main sources of power in the golf swing. It should be possible to easily hit a draw with a swing like Marcus' when hitting off the back foot without your adaptations if you are hitting the ball back in your stance because the club will naturally come from the inside. The reason it's somewhat harder for you and you need the adaptations is because your arm action is different than his (as I mentioned last week) and his is proper. The fact that your trail elbow is travelling so far to the rear of your body and your club is crossing the line a fair bit back there. so the shaft is way out of aligment with your shoulder turn. This is why you need to make adaptations to push the club from inside to outside and this is also what delays getting the trail elbow into your trail side. The ideal leverage swinging from the inside with any given club (but especially a longer club) is going to happen when the trail elbow is immediately starting down into the trail side from the same direction as the arms are swinging. This is why your changes of weight back and head turned to the trail side are necessary (or more so), because that helps you swing from the inside with your disadvantaged arm position and as I said last week it will be harder to use these adaptations with longer clubs because in effect what you are doing is introducing something that allows you to wait in order for the club get in position to be swinging from the inside which the weight back and head position change helps. You will notice that he keeps the arms more in front of his chest, folds the trail arm quickly and gets the club moving up quickly. All of this is keeping the club in synch with the motion of his chest. This means that his arms can naturally swing down from the inside and in synch with motion of his center of chest. The sign that this has happened at the top is that his club is across the line but the shaft is MUCH more in Iine with his shoulders at the top than is yours. The more out of line the club is with your shoulders at the top, the more you will have to wait for the club to get behind your turn, or lose your spine angle, hip depth etc., and especially as the club gets longer. This means power loss with longer clubs particularly and probably with very short ones as well. Study how he is getting the club shaft in line with his shoulder movement during the takeaway and keeping that alignment at the top. It's actually a very tight motion of the trail arm and elbows while he is producing a very large shoulder turn so that the arm motion almost seems short if you examine the path of the elbows. A tight cocking of the wrists combined with this tight elbow motion and a big turn is probably the most effecient possible mechanism for producing power in the golf swing. Many people lose a lot of power through even slight inaccuracies in their arm and wrist motion because the ulitmate power source in the golf swing is being able to accelerate the clubhead immediately from the top with a tight rotational center. As we all know, sometimes less is more and this is definitely often true with the arms and wrists in the golf swing. If you can improve that, you really will have arrived at a very fine swing motion which will work equally well throughout the bag. Shared with the best of intentions. Cheers.
@GolfTestDummy
@GolfTestDummy Год назад
It makes sense. I think I actually followed that one pretty well. I think a lot of my unique arm, wrist, elbow, etc motions are the result of the right wrist. It just doesn't function normally without sharp pains. This seems to be the natural byproduct of that.
@timothypollock8358
@timothypollock8358 Год назад
@@GolfTestDummy Well there is an increased wrist cock on the way down that naturally occurs. I have determined that it is predominantly a motion where the back of the hand moves towards the same side of the forearm (extension) and there is also extra force towards the thumb side of the wrist. If these areas cause problems for you then a tighter motion would be problematic for you. However, I also experimented with different motions and if you have a tighter arm and elbow motion in the backswing but with a longer trail arm during the backswing, there is less of that particular stress on the wrist during the downswing. This is a swing where you feel as though you are taking the club well to the outside (although you actually aren't) during the early takeaway but you still have a nice tight motion of the arms, elbows and wrists. You end up feeling like you are pushing the club more on the downswing. So it will end up looking somewhat more like Steve Stricker's swing. That might be an option for you to try which might give you more power with longer clubs. It doesn't leverage the wrists as much as some swings but still provides good power and it is fairly easy to get the club on plane that way which, I believe , is why Stricker adopted it. Cheers.

@GolfTestDummy
@GolfTestDummy Год назад
It's really hard to say when I'm not looking at it, but I can tell you that I've had some ups and downs, and I can share my experiences. I've appreciated your support so I'm happy to try, but this might get long winded. In the beginning with this approach, I wasn't finding additional distance. My ball flight changed, but kind of the same yardages. Once I started to embrace a "back of center" ball position, it helped a bit. Then, just watching Marcus, it APPEARED to me, that his weight at address favored his trail side. Maybe I'm wrong. But, I started to put more weight on my trail foot. It stabilized things for me, but the ball came out lower, so it wasn't longer. Then, I made my own intuitive leap and said, "If the power comes from the trail arm, and my weight favors my trail side, maybe I should act as if I only have a trail side, and never employ my lead side." (Except to keep myself from falling) So, I started to hang back on my trail side, really "dig into it", and the ball flight went much higher, carried further, turned over into a draw, and boom. I was hitting it a touch further every so often. Now, however, I just experienced 3 straight days of "losing my swing", and everything being back to normal distances. Frustration set in, not gonna lie. I believe it was because many people were saying that what I was doing was wrong, I was hit with doubt, and so I stopped doing the weight staying back thing. I hit bad shot after bad shot for days. Constantly. As of 2 days ago however, I found it again, but in a different way this time. This time, I put my focus on Marcus's references to hockey. How his trail hand passes the lead hand because it's faster, and he also demonstrates. That clicked something. I remembered that during the bad ball striking I was taking my hands at the top, and making a bee line for the ball. That's bad. I needed to bring the hands down first, THEN, move the trail hand forward. Next weeks video is driver. Might be good. Might be a disaster. Either way, I'm keeping it real, as it happens, and I'm not going to add my two cents on anything. Just gonna hit driver, leave my own thoughts out of it, and film it. Hope this helps.

@GolfTestDummy Год назад
One other thing I'd say, and again, just my experience, but another thing I experimented with was.... If I can't make my trail hand faster, what if I made my lead hand slower....? At the end of the day, this is just a simpler take mr. Jim flick and mr. bob toski swing for a life time, the arms are the engine, I like Marcus Simple’s way, I will keep at it, heck I play Dunedin donal Ross course from the back tees and shit a 78, so it does works it just feels weird, especially intentionally swinging out, my brain self corrects at lot, but it works. Just keep the fundamentals, and keep your old swing that you have work on with the teaching pro, this is just what works for Marcus, it might don’t work for you.

I'm definitely still in the "figuring things out" phase. The weight on one leg may change for me. I feel like it's changing almost twice a week as I go.

your ball position looks like it is in line with your trail heel.

Not dead on it, but I'd say with an iron about 6 inches from the trail foot?
