I've always loved the Tudor women, they stand out. The events of Margaret's life are echoed by her granddaughter Mary, Queen of Scots. Passionate, beautiful, lived by her heart over her head, and lost her power because of it. The apple didn't fall too far from the tree in so many ways!
I am also a descendant and I sit on no throne lol. Margaret and James iv were my 15th great grandparents. I am in the United States no throne lol. The royals sitting on the throne are not the only descendants my anscestors are also the woodvilles and king Edward iv and Elizabeth of York. As the families of Tudors and Yorks and Stewart’s were very large their are many of us probably more than anyone will ever know if we also include children of mistresses etc. the last names may have slowly disappeared but the blood has not and is still very much here.
I had never heard that Margaret had never received a proper education.....quite the opposite in fact. She was indulged by her welk-educated mother, who tutored her daughters and little Henry herself.
I read Margaret wasn't scholarly not uneducated, she received the same as her other siblings education wise but didn't show an aptitude for it. I believe she was more artsy like music etc.
Interesting how Margaret is said to have let emotions rule her when she remarried, but her brother seems to have been granted loftier reasons for his various pursuits
Margaret was very unlucky in marriage. At least she was luckier than her brother when it comes down to her descendents... I mean, it is her blood line that holds the crown until today, after all! 😬
Yes Margaret's line was left out of the Succession by Henry and his son Edward. But Margaret got the last laugh when her great grandson became James 1st of England and founded the house of Stuart
I loved this video, so many people blog about the Tudors and Stewart's. Getting so many of facts wrong, I know it's difficult to get documentation for the facts, but it's when there is hard facts with documentation that annoys me. Very very well done
In all honesty, Margaret is more intriguing than most of her sister in laws and Mary Queen of Scots. Married young, infidelity, deaths, marriages to conniving throne grabbing men, held the throne for son, exiled, coup d'etat to get regency back, fired cannons at husband, fought with brother literally and figuratively in wars, children stolen then she changed allegiance and stole them back, .,... That's just the highlights 😂
Finally got around to finishing this video on Margaret Queen of Scots. After your video on Mary Rose Tudor, I knew a video on Margaret would crop up eventually. Like her sister Mary, Margaret often gets overshadowed by Henry VIII and his wives. In history, Margaret usually was written about in negative terms and unfairly gets a bad rep. She wasn't perfect but wasn't a villain either. Her story is so interesting and tumultuous and deserves more spotlight and analysis. Watching this video only made me feel sorry for her as it reminded me of what a sad life she had, many low points but she kept going nonetheless. When you hold or come from power, it's so hard to know who your true friends are. Henry certainly wasn't much of a supportive sibling. Margaret did succeed however in her descendents and the family line she created, the House of Stuart who succeeded the Tudors and became the first Scottish rulers in England. Henry VIII didn't want this to happen, ignoring Margaret's line in the act of Succession but Margaret Tudor, Queen of Scots got the last laugh indeed. 🌹👍🙏
Your channel is definitely one of my favourites on you tube, if not the best! Keep up the good work, I’ve learnt more from watching your videos then i did in history class at school! So thank you very much and can’t wait for the next upload 😀 xx
Good afternoon Jon! Really would enjoy it if History Roadshow had it's own channel on Pluto! No way to get bored! In a way, your programs look like something that belongs on National Geographic! Keep up your great work! Appreciated? MUCH AND MORE!!
Sadly history is dominated by men. I always find it interesting to hear stories of strong women who stood up for what they believed in and wouldn't be silenced
It is only natural that James the Fourth would honor the Auld Alliance. France was Scotland's saviour. France succoured Scots kings. As they did with Mary, Queen of Scots, with King David the Second of Scots. James the Fifth spent a year in France and wedded two French ladies. Princess Madeline of France and Marie di Guise.
Margaret R, Marie de Guise, Mary, Queen of Scots and Margaret Douglas seemed to feel too much and not think enough. They were romantics ruling (or trying to rule) a people who often needed pragmatic leaders. It would be interesting to imagine the history of Scotland if these women as been more hardheaded.
Queen Beyoncé would've told Queen Margaret in which direction to place the box with ALL of Angus' belongings. "To the left, to the left.." That dusty dude was trifling.
I've read King James IV had a lover Margaret Drummond with whom he had a daughter named Margaret Stewart. Tragically Margaret died. Some say Drummond was poisoned so James would marry for Margaret political alliance. James claimed Margaret and took care of her needs. A good man. Disclaimer: I descend from the love child Margaret Stewart lol
I dont understand why she was so hated and disrespected by her family. There were other members who married for love but Henry accepted their marriages. Catherine couldve helped her. Meanwhile Wolsey was getting rich off the French and Henry was always pn his side and generous to him. Catherine was much better at politics and she couldve ran that house by herself better. Henry didnt make any good matches for marriage.
