@@jamesesterline I do. His name is Elias Jacob (1928-1992). He was in the final episode of season 1 of 'The Love Boat', which aired on May 20, 1978. He portrayed Herman Bass and although he was featured regularly in the episode, he uttered not one line.
In the super mario tv show there used to be scenes with real life actors before the start of each episode, those actors really show how they'd look like too
@@HenriqueMuitI used to watch that. I also watched the old Mario live action movie as well. So to me, this rendition of the Mario universe feels right at home to me.
@@kaj7135Well if you look at the animated characters in the game, you’ll see that they’re both wearing red shirts, Luigi has his familiar green overalls, but Mario’s overalls are blue.
People are gonna argue about Luigi saying “Mario, Where are you?” in the movie being a reference to this commercial once more people discover it, and it’s gonna be hilarious lmao
No internet. You had to make every second of airtime count back then. Now they intentionally make all ads shitty and annoying so you’ll pay for “premium” services.
💯 I enjoyed this, this was a bit before my time but it brought me back to playing it on atari with my brother in the early 90s, I only knew mario from the NES games so it was weird seeing Mario in this game amd donkey kong
Something’s gumming up the plumbing Poor Luigi’s in a bind Giant turtles out to get him Creepy crabs are right behind Fighter flies, jeepers, yipes! They’re all coming out the pipes Mario, where are you?
It's Atari Mario Bros. with Mario from Donkey Kong, his brother Luigi, and lots of crazy creatures, and it's twice the fun when two play at once 'cause you need all the help you can get.
@@aaronjones6299 This actually came long before the Super Mario Bros Super Show on NBC. This was for the 1983 Atari game, while Super Show premiered in '89.
From this commercial I gather that Luigi was the original plumber in the family. And after the incident with Donkey Kong, Mario got fired from his carpenter job and gets a job helping out his brother
I think that the ad also proves that Luigi is the hard working responsible one and Mario is the cowardly lazy oof. Luigi isn't yelling for Mario because he's scared and needs Mario to rescue him, he's yelling because Mario is late for work and things are getting out of hand because Luigi is a man short.
@@SlayerRunefrost Luigi seems visibly more worried and anxious than angry. Plus, it has been established multiple times throughout the franchise that Luigi has always been the coward who tries to get out of involvement in Mario's adventures (despite being naturally more physically capable) while Mario is the one always walking whole plains, caves, deserts, shores, jungles, mountains in the sky, the clouds themselves, and volcano-adjacent locations in the Dark Lands just to save the Princess every week.
Easily the most accurate live action depiction of Mario I’ve ever seen. They even nailed Luigi’s personality, which Nintendo themselves didn’t decide on untill Luigi’s Mansion.
I miss old video game commercials! I love that they would try to act out scenes from the actual game and also they would show the gameplay. Nowadays it's just cut scenes. You can't even really get a full scope of what you're getting into because all you're being shown is cutscenes the whole time
I suppose its because back then with the limited graphics commercial creators had to use their imagination to create fun scenes like this in order to get people hyped.
I couldn’t agree more. I also think that same imagination went into the development of games back then. Unlike the raw sewage that passes for games nowadays.
Honestly people are getting less and less tolerance for that shit. You usually get a CG reveal trailer, but every game nowadays has a gameplay trailer, and if it doesn't, it's really suspect.
Lyrics. "Something's coming up the plumbing, poor Luigi's in a bind, giant turtles out to get him, creepy crabs are right behind, fireflies, jeepers, yikes! they're all coming out the pipes... MAAAARIOOO, WHERE ARE YOU!!!"
Of all the places to source the music for their video game commercial, Atari/Nintendo chose the theme from "Car 54, Where Are You?" A sitcom from 1961 A gaming company needs to bring this back at least once, like have the next Red Dead game trailer be set to the Andy Griffith theme
Hey, does anybody know the name of the actor who plays Luigi here? I mean, he IS technically the first actor to ever play the role. I feel like it'd be unfair if it was impossible to find out who this guy is/was.
You know you probably wouldn't like Mario. He'd be your landlord and be this obnoxious short guy that becomes 10 feet tall after taking drugs (mushrooms). And nobody would like X-men's the Wolverine unless he made them with the exception of the guy who contracts him out to kill people and then only from behind a desk in another country.
Luigi is not a coward he literally went through a haunted mansion to save his brother and he tried to save his brother in the sewers of giant crabs and giant turtles he’s a hero
a true coward isn't just someone who expresses their fear, it's someone who runs away when they're needed the most. Luigi is always there for his friends, he's not a coward, he's just the neurotic brother; Mario is just more emotionally stable he's not braver, in fact Luigi is kinda braver for constantly overcoming his fear, perchance.
I'd love a Mario horror game where you play as Luigi fixing the broken pipes while being chased by nightmare inducing koopas, fireflies, and creepy crabs.
I imagine a mix of Iron Lung and FNAF for the art style. It could be a pseudo-3D game, like Sister Location. The game could follow Luigi in the same situation as the commercial, but for several nights. At the end, it’s revealed Mario was too busy fighting off DK, leading to Luigi dying a horrible fate, stuck in the sewers.
@@roymakescomics_Luigi's Mansion_ consists entirely of Luigi fighting supernatural horrors, solving puzzles, and obtaining keys to make forward progress-not the sort of horror game we're talking about.
Something's gumming up the plumbing, poor Luigi's in a bind! Giant turtles out to get him, creepy crabs are right behind! Fighter Flies! JEEPERS! YIKES! They're all coming out the pipes!! *MAAARIO WHERE ARE YOU?!*
It's Atari MARIO BROS., with Mario from DONKEY KONG, his brother Luigi and lots of crazy creatures, and it's twice the fun when two play at once, cause you need all the help you can get!
To this day, franchise remains obscure. Super Mario Bros. became 10th best selling game in 1984. Reviewers describe it as a "fine hidden gem for NES enthusiasts overshadowed at release by such big hits as Hudson's Nuts & Milk and Super Pitfall". [4]
It's Atari Mario Bros. with Mario from Donkey Kong, his brother Luigi and lots of crazy creatures! And it's twice the fun when two play at once, cause you need all the help you can get! *MAAAARIO WHERE ARE YOU?* Mario Brothers, new from Atari!
The thing that has always been interesting to me about Luigi is that he ACTS like a coward, yet he still gets shit done. Like. He never DOESN'T follow through. I think that's partially what makes me like him so much.
Agreed, it makes him a more developed character compared to Mario in a way. Bravery doesn't mean not experiencing fear. It means continuing forward IN SPITE of your fear.
TV Tropes uses Luigi as the example of a Cowardly Lion, he is afraid of everything, but he gets the job done especially when his brother and friends are in danger.
@Bro Dude wasn't that the whole lesson of The Cowardly Lion, that he was actually brave because he would fight to protect his friends. Same thing with Scarecrow, he was actually smart as he was the one who would come up with solutions to their problems, same with Tin man, he was actually kind as he was shown to care for others.
@@nintendosage77 not then! We couldn’t find one around to save our lives! I finally found one more than thirty years later at a flea market at a retro game stand!
To be fair, this was Luigi's first appearance; it would be hard to say he was from anything else when he literally didn't appear in anything else at the time.
@@MrNoobNub Actually, it was the Game and Watch game "Mario Bros" where they worked in a bottle factory, that was Luigi's first appearance. Though he's literally just a shadow with a hat and the name "Luigi". Mario Bros the arcade game would be his first true debut.
Since I'm a 90s kid when I hear Mario brothers i think super Mario and when I hear donkey Kong I think donkey Kong country. Amazing how far they went from their roots.
Little known fact: This advert's song was actually a parody of the theme to an old TV show called "Car 54, Where Are You?". Also some portions of the VeggieTales song "The Yodeling Veterinarian of the Alps" were based off that same melody as well.
The real top comment is this one! Not goofballs arguing about Luigi being a coward or yarping about the Mario Bros. live action movie. We need people keeping the real trivia like this alive.

It was actually super Mario 3 where Luigi was changed to look different. Super Mario 2 in Japan used the same sprites as super mario. The american super mario 2 took Luigi's design from super mario 3. Which launched in Japan the same month super mario 2 launched in the u.s.
Luigi was still fat in the "Super" games too, especially in Super Mario Bros 3 where both Mario and Luigi had those huge potbellies *(although in the newer versions like in All-Stars or Super Mario Advance they have him slimmed down).* It wasn't until the N64 games where he was considerately slimmer than Mario. Although games like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games show Luigi has the same porportions as Mario. Mario's actually not as fat as he used to be either, he looks sort of thinner himself just not to the extent as Luigi. Also, both of them were depicted to be middle-aged back then as well. It wasn't until the early 2000s when they were aged down to be in their mid-20s.
This isn’t a commercial, this is footage of a schizophrenic who got lost on a set begging for his brother to help him recollect, who happened to be named Mario.
man, rip to the actor in this. his acting is definitely very lively and cartoony, nice catchy song, visually it is kinda uncanny and i could imagine to really young kids a bit terrifying but i imagine they mustve put a lot of thought into this, and just for a 30 second ad
When saw I this as a kid I thought Mario isn't there because he has run out of lives and is now dead, but Luigi doesn't know it yet. That was a pretty creepy thought for such a comical commercial.
TIL, this is an homage to the Car 54 Where are You Theme. Leave it to old people to reference an even older thing that none of the kids would have gotten back in the day.
I remember seeing this as a young kid. I wanted that game so badly! Finally got it on NES. Man, I forget how long I've been around sometimes. Don't worry. It will happen to you, too. ;P
Long Long time ago. In a Gaming Console far far away. There was the Atari 2600, and it had 3 Nintendo Games. Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior and Mario Bros the arcade games. Then the 1983 North American Video Game Market crash happened.
"To stop those monsters, one-two-three, Here's a fresh new way that's trouble-free, It's got Paul Anka's guarantee ... MAAARRRIIIOOO WHERE AAARRREEE YOOOOU?!"
One of my earliest memories was going to my neighbors house to play their Atari/this. When SMB3 came out, I loved that it had that VS mode that was a throwback to original Mario.
