This includes all riffs from parts 1 2 and 3 of my riff comps plus some extra bonus clips, and the unreleased chon song intros. I made this just so you can find everything all in one place!
Not to hate on most other math rock guitar, but these two do it in a way that hits different. I feel that a lot of math rock, while interesting, it seems "hollow" and sporadic. Mario and Erick keep the math rock vibes high, but its the intent and drive (confidence?) in the way they write their riffs. Like they are truly meant to be. Their riffs are not coy at all. Not sure how else to explain it, but Mario and Erick make magic, especially together.
It’s because Mario and Eric have a musical approach when writing music. No disrespect to any other math rock enthusiast but these guys actually studied theory through out their years of guitar playing. I feel like that (plus their creativity) is the reason they’re able to make such easy flowing melodies and harmonies.
100% agree, most other math rock is kinda this tappy noodly harmonics spam where the main message is “I am good at guitar” and the music is just incidental. Whereas these melodies actually tell a story… while also somehow flexing even harder
Sick. I missed out on seeing them live twice. First time i had a ticket and college got in the way and second time they cancelled because of the pandemic. Chon will forever be my fav band. Been a fan since 2014.
does anyone remember that ig clip of mario eating popcorn in the crowd while watching tricot play melon soda. its the funniest shit ever and im so sad i cant find it
i’ve got some clips of brain evan’s shredding with nathan and him playing with them live if you want them. little bit late to say after the mega cut was made…..
I wish they would have finished or released more of that piece, too. It would have fit well in "Homey," and to me, it had the potential to be the best track on it.
@@jjedwards5744The sheesh riff has a tab out there you can find. I think the website is called soundsplice. The first riff however doesn’t have a tab. I also believe that riff is in drop D tuning.
