May 13, 1991 - No matter the matchup - Kevin McHale, Ed Pinckney, Kevin Gamble, Derek Smith - Detroit Pistons forward Mark Aguirre operated and dominated during Game 4 of his team's second round series against the Boston Celtics. Aguirre accrued 34 points by the time it was all said and done, shooting 11-of-16 from the floor. And while most of his production stemmed from his post play, he still found time to knock down 2-of-3 3-point attempts. Aguirre's hot hot keyed a 104-97 Pistons win, evening up best-of-seven series at two games a piece.

Aguirre was the reason Detroit won that series. HOF. Had to double-team him which was another reason he's HoF. One guy teams hated to see down the stretch, so good in the last minutes.

Mark Aguirre should have been featured more (and started) vs. Chicago and in the 1991-92 season. Mark Aguirre 100% was gold; could have averaged 20-25ppg. in Detroit had they featured him the following season.
@thedanholmes
@thedanholmes 3 года назад
But the team HAD to get minutes for Rodman. That's why Aguirre came off the bench as a featured piece rather than as a starter.
@plainsimple244
@plainsimple244 3 года назад
@@thedanholmes Yeah I know, that happened in Jan. of 1990 after the Lakers/Pistons @ The Palace, two days later they played without Aguirre vs. Chicago, Rodman started and they won like 20 out of 22 games or 19 out of 21 and the rest was back-to-back.... I was just referring to the lineup because you need either a post presence or a scorer at small forward, especially in '92 when they lost Edwards (size) and Rodman couldn't/didn't score...so he could have at least developed his game (a handle and jumper) which could have helped the Pistons win more titles.

That’s why Dantley was ran out of town. Aguirre had to accept a lesser role, or Isiah wouldn’t have okayed the trade.
@plainsimple244
@plainsimple244 2 года назад
@@honorfirst7506 Well either Dantley was kept or Aguirre not wanting to accept a lesser role wants a greater role and he stays in Dallas...so, it was Aguirre (according to your statement) which made the deal work...otherwise Isiah Thomas is stuck with selfish small forwards. I guess more than likely you can complain that Isiah Thomas is the reason for the Pistons' demise in 1991 and 1992 -- as a Pistons fan, I can agree with that aspect because looking back, had he not come back in '91, Detroit perhaps would have kept their title-contending team together...also, had Thomas chosen to keep coming off the bench for the ECF (Dumars/Johnson had great chemistry starting vs. Boston) Detroit could have kept things going with a bench of Thomas, Aguirre, and Salley as they did vs. Boston in games 6 and 7? Very curious how Isiah both ran the Pistons and contributed to their losses in 1987, 1988, and 1991.

Funny to see what I already know from watching in the past how different the game was played then.. all about going to hoop and dumping it down low to a talented big man, there weren't many stop up Shooters.. the 3 was a 2nd option not close to the first option

Had the Pistons lost this series,Jordan wouldn't have won a N.B.A Championship in '91!! Y'see Jordann was 0-6 against a Bird-led Celtics team in aplayoff series!!

Yeah! As if Magic, Bird, Isiah, Dr. J or Barkely could have beaten ANY of those teams playing WITH THAT Bulls lineup. Jordan played with the lowest talented players of any of them.

0-6??? Jordan didnt face the celtics in the playoffs 6 times. do you mean the 2x 3 game sweeps in the mid 80s? that 91 Bulls team swept Detroit in the conference finals, same team that beat Boston in the semis so what would the Bulls done to Boston? also sweep them
@alecsanderhamilton9224
@alecsanderhamilton9224 Год назад
Bulls would have beat Boston in 91 tho I get ur belief in ur squad. That's all good. Woulda been a fun series.
@meminustherandomgooglenumbers
@@gerardolopez4318 Celts matched up way better against the bulls than the pistons did. Much of the Celtics team was hobbled by injuries this year but the celts did beat the bulls in a late regular season game which had playoff implications for both teams. The whole game is here on RU-vid and worth a watch. The celts had a shot at a 60 win regular season this year - 56 wins with 4 games to go - but they benched their starters to rest for the playoffs and loss all of those last 4 games. So yeah if they finish Detroit in 5 and get a few days rest before facing the bulls, then they coulda given them a tough time.

1:04 this is why giannis would not survive in the 90s. Man gets away with offensive fouls AND travels all day. He was never relevant until he exploited those rules and got bigger.
