Tbh, that all just ties back to marks poor decision making with Sophie in general. Lots of conflicts could be avoided with her if he just came clean with the fact that he doesn’t like her at all and never wants to see her again and just put his foot down on it. Mark ain’t a good person, but neither is she. Tho, the reason she constantly gravitates him in the first place is partially because he enables her habits and knows he 100% won’t do anything to stand up for himself. Like her or hate her, that observation isn’t entirely wrong. Jez acknowledges it and does about the same thing to mark himself.

It's not a "subtle callback" lmao, the writers just forgot about that. It wouldn't even make sense as a callback, why would mark call the shark Jaws when he hated when people do that?
