Great video I like it! What will be your maximum range for deer? 100 yards? or 50 ?
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 года назад
Thanks man. I will say 100yds if I have a good rest. I did calculate the ballistics of this load and should mention it in a video at some point. But my drop is 2” at 100yds. It is 4.5” at 125yds but is still carrying 1050 ft/lbs of energy. So I feel pretty good about a 100yd shot.

@@ChuckinTV thanks man great info. The reason I asked is because I have the same rifle and was curios about the effective range. Great info I appreciate it.

Another enjoyable video. I really enjoy my lever guns. I have a 1967 manufactured Marlin 336-44 in .44 magnum of course. Sort of a rare bird. Apparently the first year or two they had feeding issues but the fixed the problem by the time mine was made. Smooth as hell and totally reliable. Apparently by then the damage was done and they had a reputation so they discontinued and soon started making the 1894 again , in .357 and .44 mag. , plus a few other calibers. Love it. It whacks the hell outta deer , bears and lions.

Man after my own heart, 28.5 grains of H-110 with XTP 180 grain bullets running 2200 -+ fps, a fast hard hitting setup. Good to 150 yards...

The forearm screws coming loose is why your 2nd group is stringing vertical. Try putting some blue locktite on the screw treads and see if that helps. I used to have a tompson contender super 14 in 44 mag. and i could put 3 shots on a 3x5 notecard at 350 yards, so don't be afraid to shoot it at longer distance. That is a nice gun. I have up grade to a S&W 8&3/8 inch barrel with a 2 power Leopold scope on it.

That damn thing shoots hard! Surprised at the flatness of the round at 100 yds, but not completely shocked when you consider the 2000 FPS. I just went out to my socket set and took a look at my 7/16" socket (closest I could get) and imaged that traveling down range that fast. Good times ahead for you and the Marlin.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 года назад
yeah, I calculated it after I videoed this. It only drops 2" at 100 yards with a 50 yard zero. I was pretty surprised given the low B.C on this bullet at .170

I like how you have this set up-nice and handy. I put a scope with a crosshair and red dot in the center on my 45-70 guide gun . Got a nice 1 inch group at 100 and dropped a deer with it last week using 325 leverevolution ammo. You seem to be on with it pretty good , let us know how the 200 grains work , If the hollow points drop them fast you might not need an exit wound. 200 grain soft point might work too. good luck !

@@ChuckinTV I always seem to do better with my crossbow. I have had the 45-70 a while and got my first deer with it this year.You have the confidence now that you get when you find a good accurate load that hits hard-it will happen-just matter of time.

I load 260 grain cast hollow points at 1600 FPS. It’s the bullet in my avatar. They shoot sub MOA at 100 yards in my 77/44. It’s a 20” drop at 200 yards. I can hit a 6” gong at 200 yards every time I pull the trigger. Fun times.

Did you see the Ranger Point Precision sights?, Did you choose the Williams over the Ranger point?

I did see that Ranger Point made them. I went with the Williams because they were less expensive if I remember correctly. I also like how adjustable the Williams are.

The 1:38" twist doesnt like bullets much over 265gr . Marlin should have gone to a 1:20" twist as with the .45 colt caliber
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 года назад
I agree that 1-38" is way too slow. My CVA Hunter 44 is a 1-20" and it does really well with 300gr XTPs. But it is trash with anything under 240gr. Marlin should find a middle ground with the twist rate somewhere. I am still very happy with the way these 200gr bullets shoot through the Marlin though.
@wdcjunk
@wdcjunk 2 года назад
Have you tried the 240 or 300 xtp? I made some with the 240 for my nephew using VV N105. I wasn’t exactly happy with the results but the jury is still out. How’s the trigger pull on that? His is a ridiculous 8 pounds.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 2 года назад
The trigger is pretty stiff. Maybe round the 5lb mark. I didn’t measure it. I shot 240gr xtps in the first video and they did okay. But given the extremely low twist rate of this marlin I think the 200gr may be a better choice.

I do enjoy shooting with my lever rifles too, that's not bad shooting at all, especially out to those 100 yard targets. If there's no venison in your freezer this winter, it shouldn't be because the rifle's not accurate enough, should it? :)
