I explain the procedures of getting married in Turkey for foreigners. You can discover which documents are required for marriage and the applications steps for getting married. Also, I will give you insights about how to obtain necessary documents. Feel free to comment on this video if you have any questions
Section 1: Who can get married in Turkey
- Anyone with a still valid visa can get married in Turkey
- It can be 2 foreigners OR 1 foreigner and 1 Turkish citizen
Section 2: Required documents to get married
- Certificate of Celibacy: the document that shows that you are single and eligible for marriage. You can get it from the consulate of your country in Turkey.
- 6 photos
- Health report: it can be taken from public or private hospitals in Turkey.
- Notarized and translated version of passport copy
- The foreigner shouldn’t be in overstay status.
- If both partners are foreigners and if they don’t have residence card, then the government asks for a document that shows your address in Turkey. It can be a rent contract.
Section 3: Marriage application in Turkish authorities
- Contact any marriage register office (evlendirme dairesi) and take an appointment
- You need to bring two witnesses at the marriage date with you

It depends on your country. Some countries give it in their embassies in Turkey. Some of them only give it in your country. Note that the affidavit either needs to be apostilled or needs to be stamped by your country's embassy in turkey to be valid here! Hi Burak thanks a lot for the informative video it was extremely helpful. My case is that I am a Turkish citizen and my fiancé is foreigner and we are both living abroad. We will come to Turkey to have the civil ceremony just in a week's time so I am looking to find out a way to have the appointment date in advance. After a bit of research and seeing your video I am left with below questions and will really appreciate your help. 1- Is there a specific requirement for the translations to be done by Sworn translators? 2- Is it possible for me to apply marriage registration office on my fiancé's behalf i.e. could this be delegated through power of attorney? If yes I believe this should be possible to get from Turkish Embassy/Consulate in his country or could you explain how? 3- Is it possible to use a health report from another country? And what would be the requirements to fulfill for such report. I guess there will also be a step to validate it so where I should go to get that? You mentioned "City Health Counsel" in the video, could you also give the Turkish name for that? Many thanks in advance, Looking forward to your response!

When you get your document translated, you also need to ask the translator about the notarization process. 2. To be honest, we havent done application with a PoA. I add to my questions list and I will find it out when I visit marriage office next time. 3. The health report needs to be taken from Turkish authorities. As I heard from people, marriage office in Umraniye is one of the fastest ones. Usually appointment is given for 2-3 weeks later.

Hello Burak, thank you for the very informative video. Just a question in regards to having a valid residence permit: does the residence permit only need to be valid when the documents are submitted, or will it need to also be valid for when the marriage occurs? My situation is that my permit will be valid when I submit the documents/application but it will then expire by the time the marriage ceremony takes place. I will, however, be in the process of renewing the permit. Thank you.

In my knowledge, it needs to be valid when the marriage occurs! You can still ask it to the marriage officer when you submit your documents. If you get approval after your renewal application and before your marriage date, they can also accept your case and get you married.

Residence permit is not required if the marriage takes place within 90 days starting your arrival, since there is no standard in this issue more options are available rather than in İstanbul. In conclusion, it is not a must requirement and changes in line with the offices you submit your application.

All documents need to be translated and notarized. For birth certificate and celibacy document, they need to be apostilled or stamped at your country's embassy in Turkey. Merhaba Furkan, madde madde yazıyorum aşağıya: - En önemli olan belge konsolosluktan alacağı "Bekarlık Belgesi". Bu belgeye anne ve baba adını ekletirseniz, doğum belgesine gerek kalmaz. Bir tavsiyem de, eğer konsolosluk verebiliyorsa, belgeyi konsolosluktan türkçe olarak almanız. Böylece kaymakamlıktan onay bastırıp (noter ve çeviriye gerek olmadan), direkt evlendirme dairesine sunabilirsiniz. - Eğer "Bekarlık Belgesi"ne anne-baba adı eklenmezse, bu sefer doğum sertifikası sunmanız lazım. Bunun için de, belgeyi konsoloslukta damgalatıp, çeviri-noter yapıp, sonrasında kaymakamlıkta onaylatabilirsiniz.

Hi M.Burak, I am from Canada and my fiancé is from Jordan. We are planning to marry in Istanbul( the civil wedding) . We have all documents already prepared, We translated and notarized all document in our home country. But we will be in Istanbul only for 12 days. Do you think it’s enough time? In central marriage offices (evlendirme dairesi), they give appointment for 1 month later. You can look for less popular and less crowded marriage offices (such as Umraniye in Istanbul). You can get health certificate from any hospital. If you get it from private hospital, you also get it verified at public hospital. Some marriage offices ask for basic turkish (Yes, and telling your name), however most of them ask for a translator.

I have one question about the residence permit: I am Spanish Citizien & I do not need visa for entering the country for tourist purposes in a stay of 90 days within 180 days period, Do I need to have a residence permit to be available to apply to the marriage application stage? Hi Burak! My fiance is Turkish and I'm US citizen. I will be there on a tourist visa. We have our documents ready, he just did his health check and I will do mine the day after I arrive. I have an appointment at my consulate for the celibacy document (in both languages with my parents names) and I know we have to go to the Governorship of Istanbul's Legal Affairs division for approval of documents. My questions are is my tourist visa ok to get married (valid for 90 days) and do we have to use the marriage office in his town or can we go to any marriage office in Turkey? Hello, if you have all your documents, you can apply to the marriage office "evlendirme dairesi" to get appointment for marriage. Here are the answers to your questions: - You can get married as long as your stay in Turkey is legal. If you can manage getting married within the validity of your tourist visa, it is ok to get married. They might ask for an accommodation document to register your residence address into the marriage system. You can provide your future husband's accommodation address. - You can use any marriage office in Turkey as long as you have full documents. Wishing both of you the best today and beyond :))

You can search "evlendirme dairesi" on google maps to find marriage offices. I dont guess someone would make a fake register office which is not legitimate :D Witnesses can be turkish or from any other country.

If you are gonna stay in the European Side of Istanbul, we can make the translation&notarization of your passports. The most important document is the document that shows that you are both single and available for marriage. It needs to be stamped by your embassy in Turkey. It needs to be max 6 months old.

I have a question Sir. We are living in Eskisehir for 3 years now. This time asked us for a marriage certificate. Is your spouse turkish? If yes, you need to get your marriage registered in Turkey. If both are foreigners, you need to get your marriage certificate stamped by Pakistan embassy, translated and notarized.

You can start living after you make the application. Your stay is legal until the family residence permit card arrives. Note that you need to be legal in Turkey (your visa shouldnt be expired) when you apply for family residence permit.

Foreigners are limited to stay upto 90 days in the last 180 days. Just bring certificate of celibacy and birth certificates with apostille. Details explained in the current video.

Hello, it depends on how fast you collect the documents and the available timeslots at marriage registration offices. Usually, getting the marriage paper from consulate takes 2-5 weeks. The marriage appointments at busy areas can take 1 month. Or you can get your marriage appointment from less popular areas.

Hi, if a foreigner wants to get married to a Turkish citizen and they both live in turkey he has as residence permit and she is a Turkish citizen, it is the same process right? or does it differ? and can you please tell me what are the required documents for turkish citizen?

The process is same. From Turkish citizen, same documents are required. Good news is that, the Turkish person doesn't need to provide a paper from embassy that shows that person is single, because that information is automatically taken from the government system.

That is correct. A foreigner can get married in Turkey with their passport. Residence permit card is not compulsory. It is important to be in legal stay status within visa duration.

Hey Mert, answers are below: 1. Divorce document is not enough. She needs to get "Bekarlık Belgesi" from the US consulate in Istanbul. The document should be taken within 6 months of marriage date. 2. Yes, you would need the above document. Also, you need to get medical health report in Turkey. 3. You can work with an attorney to assist with documentation, but it doesnt accelerate the process. The timing depends on the US consulate and the appointment of Evlendirme Dairesi.

In september i will not be in turkey anymore but my turkish boyfriend and i decided to marry to stay together. We made all the process perfectly but we failed to marry because there is a mistake in my ikamet : the name of my mother isnt correctly written. As its too much long to change this ikamet and that it will expire in one month, they told me to leave turkey and to come back as a tourist to marry my turkish fiance. You can try that. Leave turkey, come back with a new stamp on your passport. Go to the marriage office. Dont mention them about your residency. Provice celibacy documents and ask to be married. Where are you from? your passport country?

In same time Turkish authority refuse to provide and residential without reason . Is there any way that we can get married without Morocco consulate ? It was an easy process you have to bring birth certificate unmarried certificate and passport copy attested from your country foreign office attested and also attest it from turkish embassy or counslate. It is for both and then another unmarried certificate from canada. I applied canadian unmarried certificate from downtown notary in toronto and it they attested it from all. Concern departments and handed it to me in 7 days.

Both of you need to get "Celibacy document" (the document that shows you are single and available for marriage) from the consulate of your countries. This process might take 1-2 weeks depending on the consulate. Then, you need to get appointment from Turkish Marriage Office. The appointment is 3-20 days after depending on the popularity of the marriage office. Some of them are not busy and they give appointment for the next day. You need to bring your passport, birth certificate from Iraq. The birth certificate needs to be apostilled. The lawyer doesnt make the process faster. They can just faciliate the procedures.

You need to provide an official paper that shows your mother & father name. And this document needs to be stamped by your consulate in Turkey, translated and notarized. That is why, a passport might not work.

It is very hard to get married in 10 days because you need to get documents from consulate. My advice is to apply for residence permit, increase your stay time and then complete the procedures.

I applied for a 2 year visa and got it. This allows me to stay in Turkey for 2 years. I went through them too. They are very good and highly recommended. Now I am waiting on my ciritzenship process after buying a house.

Yes, the whole process is bit complicated. However, note that when all documents from foreigners' consulate are completed, getting married is quite easy and straightforward at turkish authorities. The hardest part is getting celibacy certificate from the consulates.
