Yeah... You're completely forgetting the uproar this caused. And this is tame compared to stuff you can watch these days. Watch some of the Mike Tyson Mysteries. WAY more offensive than this - and still funny. (Married with children rocks though).
@Jake Cutter you've been listening to too much Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro. You know what democrats want for you? Health care and air you can breath. Meanwhile the Republicans are stripping away healthcare in a pandemic. What a stand up bunch of guys and a girl or two - maybe a black guy in there somewhere. Real diverse bunch a cunts they are.
Exactly. Before everyone wasn't a complete pussy like nowadays. For fucks sake we got people who think the earth is flat... People are fucking stupid and massive pussies nowadays.
They're too worried about silly stuff like flat earth, thinking that gender(chromosomes) can change, that "god" is real and such stuff, to even have a humour. Not all, though.
This show came out when this type of humor was rare on TV. When this show aired, the most controversial other show was The Simpsons. They had to rely on clever writing. Nowadays, you have shows that try to get by on crude humor and sexist/ racist insults alone. You get "punchlines" with either poor or nonexistent build-up. It's like how Ren and Stumpy got popular because of clever writing, so every other cartoon in the 90s had poop and vomit jokes. Or how South Park used clever writing, so you had shows that tried to be "political" to justify violence and crude humor.
Side fact: Amanda Bearse, the actress portraiting Marcy D'Arcy, you know, the woman Al always calls a chicken, directed a total of 31 episodes, some targeting her own character with some insanely wicked jokes. Great times. Still love the show.
@chris younts He never threatened to have her fired he just said he was "essential" to her are you essential? (or a word similar to that one) ...Because she came in as a cute women with longer hair but like next season came back with very short butch hair cut...
@chris younts haha his name is Ed O'Neill, not "Al".....and yes, he and Amanda Bearse hate each other to this day. That's why there has never been a real reunion and why the show really didn't even get a proper finale
She was the definition of "man-hating lesbian." Still is. She couldn't separate Ed O'Neill from Al Bundy. Here's my favorite thing on RU-vid about it. Btw, Ed O'Neill's "Button" line is SAVAGE GOLD. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZkjNyoPRBsc.html
Me and my husband were out eating when a man complimented my husband's Al Bundy Polk High shirt he was wearing. The two hit it off then the man commented about how I must hate that show and that shirt. I looked right at that man with a wicked grin and said. "I bought him that shirt." Completely floored this guy. He started laughing.
YES!!!!!!!!! Two shows (Simpsons too) basically made what FOX is today.....Both had such inappropriate humor....and I mean stuff that couldn't even pass on HBO almost....The show had one classic episode that was banned from syndication yet was included on the DVD's and streaming.....In Living Color, same thing.....Men on Films....I'm done!
Man, they insulted each other, but they were like the Musketeers, you fought one Bundy, you fought them all. Talk about a family that had each other's backs!
No they didn't. This show was almost done mid season of season 1. Feminists, gay rights groups all had their underwear in a wad. It was when liberal morons started whining and crying about everything. Wanting to make everyone as miserable as they are.
This was one of the very first shows on Fox. They relied heavily on shock value to draw in viewers as, in the beginning, Fox only aired on the weekend. It worked extremely well.
@@dansgroi1472That's just Bullshit. it was CONSERVATIVES that objected to the show. The hypocritical "family values" voters. The same types that tried to ban booze, weed, porn, comic books, horror movies, DnD, video games, rock and roll, rap, and anything else considered fun. Google: Terry Lynn Rolkota. She was a conservative anti-obscenity activist and Mitt Romney's sister in law! She is the one that tried to get Married with children cancelled. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_Rakolta Its time conservatives stop blaming you own stupidity on liberals.
@@mmarsh1972 liberal groups when enraged over this show also.....the jokes against Women and Gays enraged the Left....if you think it was all conservatives then you are in serious need of turning off MSNBC and learn how to think for yourself.
I watched this as a kid all bundy is my role model. He doesnt cheat on his wife or leaves her. Still comes home and brings the bacon. Pretty much his live sucks but he does love his family if you watched the show.
It is really heart-warming actually, when you watch the show and notice this. Even though the Bundy family always nag and fight and are mean to each other, they still care about each other and won't let anyone hurt their family. They all have moments where they have a chance to do something really selfish, but it would result in severe suffering and pain for 1 or more of their family members, and they always end up choosing to give up their own dreams, to keep sharing the missery with the rest of the family. If you think about it, Al has had several chances to cheat on/leave Peg for some pretty attractive women, but he never had the heart the go through with it. That is true love; sharing your pain and missery with the only person who really understands you.
Yes, Al’s whole existence on the show was his rude, sarcastic comments and responses. He was amazing! It’s funny to see that this younger generation gets offended so easily and don’t realize that shows like this actually existed! I remember it being on at 5pm! By the way, I’m a big fan of you guys. I’m watching you guys down here in, Brasil! Keep the laughter coming! God bless you two! 💯👍🏽
Maquia Nycure Do you know why the young kids today are so easily offended. It’s because they look for things to be offended about. I weep for this country being handed over to generation whose god is their phone and they are not interested in educating themselves. Cos they are too busy being offended. They contribute nothing but create business for drug dealers and gun dealers
Shows like All in the family and Sandord & son had similar humor, they came out 15 years or so before Married with children. They're worth checking out as well.
No no....Marcie was cool! She was a school geek who grew up to be a very rounded character: a feminist, with a power job at a bank, her own money, handsome husband and wild....really wild....sex life. Shes funny too and Al's insults don't faze her . Al insults her "chicken legs", Steve says "if you have chicken legs just call me Colonel Saunders" and Marcie says: "Oh baby.... you do chicken right....." See, Al doesn't bother her! She's no Karen
No they didn't. There were a lot of complaints against this show back when it was on the air, the only difference is back then the butt-hurt people who complained about the show didn't have smartphones, Facebook, or Twitter to whine about it.
Come on, that is not really true. The Republicans came after this show, the Simpsons, and a show called Murphy Brown because they didn't represent ' family values'. People make fun of Devin Nunes for suing a fake twitter cow, but the VP of the USA had a three-month war with a fictitious single mom.
See people, there was a time when people didn’t complain to others or to social media if they were insulted. They simply responded “well fuck you too” and went on with their day.
I was watching my parents watch the episode were peggy asked al if he missed her, with every bullet so far . When he said that my dad choked on his coke and sprayed a fine mist everywhere, man i died laughing too.
I watched the show every week! It was in the line up of shows on the then new network Fox. Al Bundy and the entire cast were hysterical to watch! No one was offended back then but today this would be a no-go type of comedy. I sure miss anything goes comedy! One day it will return.
There were plenty of people who were offended back then, just as many as there are now, the only difference is now everyone has smartphones, Facebook, and Twitter to whine about what offends them.
People laughed while getting offended, we were thick skinned and had a sense of humor back in the the good old days. Now everything is PC, racist and very little is funny with TV shows and movies pandering to the snowflakes. The days of good entertaining TV and cinema are over. Great reaction video, keep it up.
Capitalism is "pandering". I don't blame lack of olive loaf on vegans. Largest possible market. Capitalism is PC. Millions of people buy Harley Davidson stuff to show their individuality. Besides, I watch Married with children everyday. It comes on after Hot in Cleveland. 49-4.
Seriously. This show was one of my favorites back in the day. And probably the only reason why I no longer watch today's sitcoms anymore is simply because there are no more shows quite like this :(
Fox viewing stations? It was on after "In Living Color", before the Simpsons and then after whatever half hour thing they were trying to put between then (they tried plenty, the chris elliot show, Hermand head) The X Files was on. Must see Thursday with Friends and Seinfeld gets the nostalgic attention, but Fox's sunday night was the real MVP.
The show did have a lot of calls and letters from angry Karen's that wanted it canceled but the show went on until like you said. "It ran it's course".The actor that plays Al said it just wasn't fun anymore. Fun fact- The real issue was the conflict caused by the Marcy actor not inviting him to her lesbian wedding. The show was raw but that is what the creators wanted, The working title for the the pilot was "Not the Cosby's". LOL
@@glenerickson358 Or the six or so episodes where cousin Seven the kid joined the family. To their credit they realised very quickly he was a disaster so he was canned and never spoken about again.
@@ShanghaiGoat I was about to post that exact same thing. Seven was the lowest and definately worst point of the series. Thank god that we only had to suffer his pressence for about half of season 7.
Along with "All In The Family", these were two of the funniest shows ever on TV and unfortunately, today, would fail because somebody would get offended.
My whole childhood revolves around this show. It ran for many years and wasn't on cable, it was on prime-time television. The early years started a little less offensive, but it progressed quickly. It ran from 1987 to 1997, and for a show like this, that is a very long time. If you need something to binge watch, you can't go wrong with this. Some incredible one liners that I still hear used today.
You are correct. We live in self-entitled, narcissistic times. If it offends someone, like a child they throw a tantrum until the grown-ups acquiesce. Turning off the channel is too difficult for these adult children. They want their way imposed on everyone else. I am glad you guys did this. You also seem like throughly lovable characters yourselves, and would be lots of fun to hang with. As for watching full episodes of Married with Children, there are a few stations in my area that air them. GET TV is one. Check out your own cable listings for reruns. I'm sure you'll find it, because this show ran for about 11 years and was very popular.
@@markcainyourfriendinthecar3387 It aired in the beginning of 1987, but you get my point about the technology being way different back in that time. Cable TV was not a staple in every household in the 80s. When I said five, that was not meant literally five. I was using that as an example to compare to today's Technologies of the hundreds and hundreds of channels that we have available to us at the touch of a button.
One of the best shows ever!! It ran for 11 years. You can probably stream it somewhere, but they have the complete set at Walmart. The basic premise of the show is; he was a high school football star (the high point in his life was scoring four touchdowns in one game at Polk High), who married a very easy girl after graduation. He never realized his dreams. He has a lazy/selfish wife, and two loser kids (the girls a tramp and the boy couldn't score to save his life). He sells cheap women's shoes for a living and he basically hates his life.
Kids turn out to be NOT losers I disagree, although Bud in didnt get any s e x, at a lateter point he did and he was distintend to win but he thought of family first. Dont forget when Kelly fixes the workbench when Al can not !
Pill Cosby I think you are mistaken about Bush taking it off the air. It ran until it was cancelled by Fox in 1997. Well in to the Clinton administration. After 11 seasons it had just simply run its course.
Pill Cosby I’m not going to argue with someone who is obviously wrong. Clear channel had nothing to do with this show....ever. It was NEVER taken off the air from its inception until its cancellation in 1997. There was a very short lived boycott that led to a ratings boost, but the Bushes never had it taken off the air nor did they own Clear Channel radio media. Ever.
Married With Children, Martin, Fresh Prince. No matter how many times I watch these episodes and hear these jokes, I always end up with tears in my eyes.
Ran from 87-97 and was on Fox. Back when we only had like 3 channels and had to do a weird dance holding an antenna just right to pick up Fox. 🤣🤣🤣 greatest show ever!!!
I always loved it when Al insulted Marcy, Steve and Darcy couldn’t stop laughing each and every time behind her back 😂 this was the best show ever 💖 old childhood memories 😊
Hey, Don't forget about the dad from "Psycho Dad!" (Al's favorite TV show!) 🤣 Who's that ridin' in the sun? Who's the man with an itchy gun? Who's the man who kills for fun? Psycho Dad! Psycho Dad! The Dad -- with an itchy gun -- but he loves his son! Killed his wife 'cause she weighed a ton! Psycho Dad!
Yes it was on regular t.v. shows like this and In Living Color wouldn't fly today and that's sad. The world is a sad place these days. I miss these shows terribly. You had freedom of speech back then.
Yet a lot of the casts of both shows went on to bigger and better things...

When you are no longer able to laugh at yourself what is left to laugh about? Bundy was the eternal optimist. He got up everyday knowing it could not get worse, was wrong and then did it again. We lost the ability to recognize humor from assaults on a person. Today the Left has destroyed all the fun.

@Det Nine It plays on old show channels, to get residuals, it is about cash. Tell me which New, prime time, shows are anything but PC, empower misandrists, Global Warming, social engineering bullshit. Even the Viking shows do all this historically inaccurate, contrived, feminist junk. BATWOMAN! Come on!

@Jomama Yes. Good luck at College, work, in Court, at stores or businesses. Say what you want, the cnsequences are what is unconstitutional. You get that part? Coemward or not of you are Doxed or Fired or otherwise, THAT IS THE PROBLEM. I still say what I want, but to say we still have it is a misnomer.
I'm 38. I was watching this show with my dad when I was like 9 or 10. My mom HATED it. Al Bundy was one of the unsung heros of our generation. Loved the reaction. Keep up the good work
Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) was actually a high school & college football player & was good enough to get signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers but later cut. He is also a Black Belt in Brazilian Jujitsu . But to me the original insult dads were Archie Bunker (All In The Family ) & George Jefferson (The Jeffersons) from the 70's.
Actually, Al (Ed O'neill) and Marcie (Amanda Bearse) detested each other off screen and well as on screen. Ms. Bearse was in fact a lesbian and feminist and when she married her partner in real life all cast members were invited to the wedding except O'neill and the actor that played to Bundy's son. Unfortunately, even today they have never burried the hatchet and neither one has anything good to say about the other.
I mean it happens. I mean everyone in life has those few people that they just detest. I still love Married with Children. It was probably the one show other then Survivor that my family just sat down at night as a family and watched together.
@Jay Anthony the screech police on twitter dude. They'd cry at the small tit jokes, the fat jokes, the bad wife jokes. Itd be a brave network who signed up a show like that today. I'd love it. Find anything funny I do 😉
Married with Children was on from the late 1980's and lasted for 11 years. At the end of season nine, they introduced Griff, who was a perfect "partner in crime" with Al. They were Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble.
It was one of the best shows ever. Even though there was PC going on at the time. People would just tell them to shut up and watch something else. I miss TV being like that.
Back then changing the channel involved getting up, walking to the TV and turning a dial. Since the number of channels were extremely limited(5-10), you either: just sat there and watched whatever was on that channel you were on or just stop watching tv.
In the day, we weren't offended by everything and we got to watch some of the best TV shows ever. TV was great and funny and we all (everyone) watched it together and laughed like lunatics.
This was the way i wish it still was.. i watched this as a young boy with the fam! This is when a man was a man an a woman was a woman. If you got offended honestly no one really gave two shitz! Classic Al
Al Bundy is a G.O.A.T. among all characters that has ever been on TV! I got my own piece of the two t-shirts he made famous! The white ”No ma’am” and the blue ”Polk High”. 😎👍🏼 I also have my own copy of the ”No ma’am contract”, hanging on my fridge. And if you like ”political incorrect” stuff, you should check out Ralphie May!
The reason the show went off the air is because the show had run its course and because Ed O’Neal (Al Bundy) and Amanda Bearse (Marci/director) HATED each other. There’s even some vids out there on their feud.
Married With Children is still my favorite sitcom. The Bundy's have no filter and Al has a retort for everything! My only regret is that the show never ended the way the writers intended, but it's still a fantastic ride from start to finish.
it was one of the few shows that depicted well the dysfunction in a lot of low to middle income families and somehow made it funny. really it was "reality tv" before true reality tv.
@@jmmmnliberal8274 Originally, the writers wanted to end the show with Kelly's wedding. She was supposed to meet an actually decent guy that Al liked, and the finale would have been the ceremony itself.
Lol I'm 40 and this was one of many of my favorite sitcoms, but yeah times were a bit different for entertainment back then. Married with Children was on Fox and it ran for awhile
Lol I'm a spaniard and that show was huge even here in Spain. You can mention "Matrimonio con hijos" to any spaniard who was born in the 80s, doesn't matter if it was early or late 80s and most of them will know the show.
@Liberal Tears Yep, it was dubbed. Not only that, it was dubbed to spanish from spain which wasn't that common back then (a lot of the dubs were simply the latin-american version brought over here). Edit: Gotta say though, the show is funnier in english. Many jokes get lost on translation
This show was the very first original prime time show on the then new Fox Network, airing on Sunday nights from the mid to late 80s until the mid 90s. Unfortunately, this show would sooooo not be allowed on commercial TV in this day and age.
There were people who were offended back then, it's just that back then those offended people didn't have smartphones, Facebook, or Twitter to whine about the show on.
They still run 2 and 3 hour marathons of it every morning on cable. This was the show on Fox Sundays before the Simpsons existed and was the one your parents wouldn't let you watch. It's also probably responsible for the Simpsons being on TV because Married with Children was the lead in and arguably carried the Tracy Ulman show that The Simpsons git it's start on as a cartoon short segment.
This was on the FOX network from April 5, 1987, to June 9, 1997 (I was around 17 to 27 years old as the show progressed), Christina Applegate and I are only about a year apart in age so she was relatable for me, the jokes were crude, people were rude, and some of the best things in the show were what people in the studio audience yelled out during the live taping of the show or what the dog says (yes the dog talks). What made this show work is that they didn't even try to be a normal pleasant suburban family, everyone was messed up in their own way and it just worked beautifully. I'm not sure where you can stream this show but the DVD's should still be available.
