Deschamps lifted CL, Euro Cup and WC as captain and another WC as coach. He also won CL with Juventus in 1996 and coached Monaco till the final in 2004. He lost CL final in 1997, 1998 and 2001 (with Valencia) and a Euro Cup in 2016 as coach. What a player and manager
Sadly this was the last match of one of the greatest players in the history, Marco Van Basten. He was only 28 years old. His right ankle had been tortured for years by the nasty defenders of the time: Riccardo Ferri (FC Internazionale) Vierchowood (UC Sampdoria) Pasquale Bruno (FC Torino) Manuel Sanchis (CF Real Madrid) Jurgen Kohler (FC Juventus) Ciro Ferrara (SSC Napoli). Tough and nasty guys, and a compliant rule system for the defender's fouls at the time. In this match Desailly marked him fair and square, but honestly Marco was almost motionless
@@noahlie3302 It was basically if you didn't break somebody leg , you weren't getting sent off . Van basten had been motionless since the start of euro 1992 , it had been happening for a long time .
@@razhok9725 Dude the match was absolutely not fixed. Marseille fixed a ligue 1 match against Valenciennes before the final so as not to tire the players too much (and we got punish for that). But it has nothing to do with the UCL final match itself.
@@milansoulon7153 le match om Valenciennes n'est pas avéré et on voulez pas blessé nos joueur rien de truquer on n'a remporter là champion league et sa méritez après là main de vata en 90
Most emotional final does not exist, for man u fans its 2008 and 1999 for liverpool 2005 for marsey 1993 if we all talked abt the most emotional final only milan and liverpool fans would say 2005
True, but it wasn't without controversy. I heard something about Marseille fixing their domestic league matches that season to always have a rested team for the UCL matches.
This was great, never saw any of this footage before and have fond memories of this great Marseille team and the battles with Glasgow Rangers that season. Great football days.
@@EXC333 no that wasn't true it was on the French league and I think they bribed one team to not tackles the players because they were going to play in the final I think but the CL is not
@@jeromemonteiro8062 that was in the league yes but a marseille player did say years later they where doping which as of today is not acted on due to no evidence
Well, Paris is a big city and beautiful full of tourists, so it was a no brainier to buy PSG, also I am sure at the time was probably cheaper buying PSG than Marseille
U realize the teams that always get bought are teams that aren’t currently the best. They see teams based on location or up and coming teams that haven’t been historically the best cus they know the fans wouldn’t be that happy either and they want to have a new team to be winning everything
Two fallen giants, how sad. But both have massively improved this season and looks like they're going to compete for trophies again, best of luck to both!
Ac Milan have rised back to top level..They r currently competing for serie a title...Marseille is still average team now...P$G domination in french football caused all other french teams to fall.
Match fixing. They were stripped of the league in 93 for bribery. Yet somehow were not stripped of the CL? The trophy belong to Milan as far as im concerned
2003 is even boring. Neither team scored (Shevchenko's goal is disallowed due to the controversial offside) and the match went to penalties, where Milan won the title.
For me, OM will always be the most historical team of France. I even used to play with OM on FM and made them so good in the game with all starting xi consisting of full youth products
Don't know Deschamps is not mentioned among football greats.even started juventus on the road to recovery after the scandal that relegated them to serial b by winning the serial b and gaining instant promotion. He is superhuman
I would have never been interested in this final if a sports journalist from my country hadn't spoken so passionately about OM and its history. Shout-out to Radu Banciu!
That match turned out to be Van basten’s last as professional footballer , the OM players were ruffing him up , in a era where tackles from behind were not straight reds.
Good to see Marseille back in the Champions League next season but we also need AC Milan back asap! Would be great if those 2 teams are in the same group.
@@cherk585 Arsenal. Hopefully they will return to the Champions League asap too and be competing for the Premier League which a club like Arsenal should be doing.
@@jeromemonteiro8062 it was not fixed cause you play agaisnt mighty big milan, so u doped ur entire team, afterwards om was humiliated and was banned from Europe, banned from playing the super cup and from the club world cup, it was milan who played instead which means ac milan is the true champion
Red star Belgrade + Marseille + Steaua Bucharest + Nottingham forest + Aston villa + Hamburg SV = 7 UCL Manchester city + Arsenal + Tottenham + Atletico + PSG + Roma + Lazio = 0 UCL
Cette équipe de Marseille est celle qui a apporté à la France la Coupe du monde 1998, puisque la plupart d'entre eux faisaient partie de l'équipe de France qui a remporté cette Coupe du monde.
Obviously, they shouldn't have been winners at all. AC Milan were the true champions of that year. All respect to Marseille, but they cheated every competition possible that year and the players admitted they were doping. Marseille should've won in 1991 tho. Red Star's a bunch of bus parkers.
@@anthonyfoco6396 Ik right, Marseille should have at least 2 UCLs now then if they won in 1991. French football Ligue 1 are dested by most football fans (I like Ligue 1 as a Spurs fan). They didn't cheated in UCL though, just 1 game in the Ligue 1 before final.
