I use marshmallow leaves, seeds and flowers making soups, salads, pilafs .you can combine it with lentil, rice, potatoes, onions. It is so versatile.

@@birutybeiruty4469 yes, mallow has small flowers which turn into seeds, it’s sort of button shape. Flowers I put in salads and the leaves I cook with onion, potatoes S&P, paprika, little bit of lemon juice. Some people also break an egg at the end and mix.

I just recently grew this from one of those hydroponic seed systems. It germinated in less than a week! Once it was a a few inches tall I transplanted it into dirt pot and then eventually into the desired spot in the ground. It’s doing really well although it hasn’t bloomed yet.

I just discovered a common mallow in my garden. I have no idea how it got there as I did not plant it and it wasn’t there last year (maybe I picked it thinking it was a weed) but I’m sure glad it’s there! Mine has purple/pink flowers.

Hi dear Lady, the Marshmallows grow very nice in your garden. I battled to get some seeds and eventually I found some. I've planted them direct into the ground and are so lucky to see how they sprout and grow. They are still low on the ground but have huge leaves. I'm going to take a leaf and mak a salve with it and combine it with Calandula and Plantain for the skin. Wil pick another leaf to make a tincture for the gut with Calandula and Plantain. Thank you so much for teaching me about these lovely plants. I study herbs for almost 3 decades now and certainly never stop learning.

I never knew marshmallow grew that tall! Now that I have the herb books (which I ordered several months ago LOL) I need to find time to sit down and read them. My best friend of more than 30 years has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She has been drinking alot of marshmallow tea and finds that it is helping with the discomfort of digestive upset & chemo. Thanks again, Heidi. Keep on keepin' on, k? Love & prayers

I started Marshmallow plants from seed this spring. The plant is amazing and I loved watching it grow this year. I have several autoimmune disorders like psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis that cause a lot of inflammation. I use marshmallow leaves, nettle leaves, all heal, and turmeric in a tea and I have normal inflammation markers. I started mine with the winter sowing method.

I know this is 6 years old, but I have a rather large marshmallow in my garden. I planted it a few years ago along with a number of medicinal plants. I recently decided to look for some information on what to do with it because it is getting massive. It is probably 2-3 ft wide and at about 6ft tall right now, but hasn't flowered yet this year. I also noticed some babies sprouting in the ground below the original plant. I have a really wet area that nothing else will grow in. After it goes dormant, I will gather some of the roots, will also try making some tea with the leaves.

I have been wondering about it for a while since I can't seem to get a straight answer online. Lol my question: is Mallow the same thing as Marshmallow? We have been looking for a while, but we already have Mallow seeds. They're the Vulcan variety though. I put this same question on the 5 ways to save on gardening video you posted on 03-14-2023 just in case the question here doesn't get through or seen or whatever. They are related but different varieties. There are several in the mallow family but Marshmallow is its own unique plant. From what I understand, all mallow has medicinal properties but marshmallow has the most. I sell marshmallow seeds. Yep, and I seem to find new uses for it all the time, the leaves get used in my homemade skin cream that I sell on my store, in salads and in teas, the root I use mostly in teas. I have used it in my homemade shampoo and someday I need to add some to my next herbal vinegar for hair wash/rinse. I use the leaves in my homemade soaps quite a bit too

I have a cough cold and flu remedy coming out and I will likely be making another tincture soon. I also have a few videos out where I use it in my tea blend, making herbal soap, and shampoo. I think there may be a couple more but I do not remember what all there are now.

I just sue the dried roots or leaves in teas. I also use them in my homemade cough, cold and flu syrup and the dried leaves go in my infused oil for skin cream

It's beautiful, do you have a lot of hummingbirds? I started some from seed this year. I accidentally pulled it up! Without realizing until it was to late. Don't pull weeds in mourning you will end up crying and not be able to see what you are doing.

Lol I didn’t know about this plant until I started getting these little sodas called olipops. I’m always looking for Healthy junk food lol and it has marshmallow root in it and every time I drank that soda I felt sooooo much better . The sodas are like a health food soda with no sugar . I think it has agave in it or no wait it’s Stevie . Well I’m not 100 💯 what they use to sweeten it ….

Hi ya Heidi! Wow! They get tall, I thought of planting these on the front side of my yard along the fence between me and Neibors, they’ll need to go elsewhere along the stockade fence else Neibors will call me n, or can they be trimmed staying at a certain height? They r beautiful! I use to belong to a spinning group, afterwards we would go to this sandwich/pastry shop to eat, the dumpster swarmed with bees, the group thought I was crazy, cause I’d walk right up to it and bees just buzzed around me, ohh I’ve been stung before, several times, but not by them, it was cool! Thank u

The upper parts of the plants die back for the winter then look kind of ugly. I still need to get out there and cut down the dead stalks. Then they grow totally new stalks in the spring. It amazes me how fast they can grow to 10 feet or more!

Took me two years but my marshmallow FINALLY got real big and flowered this year! So when fall comes, what should I do? Cut them down to nothing and they grow back or let the stems just stick around? Thanks!

2 years is the standard time for marshmallow to get big. The marshmallow will die back but the dead dry stalks will often stay. You can cut them down in the fall but are easier to just break off at the base in the spring as they are very dry by that point

maybe someday but it is a long process and the only thing I would ever want to have a stand mixer for and I do not intend on buying a stand mixer so it is doubtful it will happen

Have you used Bee Balm (Mondarda/Bergamot) for bee stings? It grows a gorgeous flower and so many pollinators but I didn't realize until a month ago that the name comes from centuries of usage to eliminate pain from bees stings. I look forward to another in-depth video on marshmallow as I finally got some growing from seeds. So excited. The name seems to indicate it needs moisture (marsh mallow) so maybe I didn't give it enough moisture before. We'll see this time. So many germinated and I'm in FL so it should do very well.

I tried to grow it once but it never took off. I would like to try again at some point but I have so many great flowers for our pollinators and many herbs good for stings, plantain is one of them. On two different occasions I was stung by a wasp while in the garden, I grabbed a leaf of plantain, chewed it up and put it directly on the sting and within two minutes the sting was gone and did not even leave a mark

@@RainCountryHomestead I have been unable to grow plantain here and that is shocking since it is considered a weed BUT I did try tulsi exactly as you dscribed and it worked the same for sand gnats and mosquito bites that covered my two grands while fishing. Guess that is why God made so many - whatever bites/grows in your locale he has a solution.

Thank you for this video. I have a 2-year old Marshmallow plant and growing it in a pot. It is probably about 4' tall and last night we had winds and heavy rain which bent the stalks over so badly I had to harvest. My question to you....I have a lot of flower BUDS. I went ahead and put them in my dehydrator. So, can we use the buds? Are there seeds in them?

Yes, all parts are edible but as far as if there are seeds, if they had not opened yet, then it is a little unlikely there are seeds and if there are, they would be very tiny and not mature

The Flowers & Plant in general reminds me of Hollyhock which surprised me because I thought for sure it would be like other Mallows. Do the flowers attract Butterflies? 'Cos those leaves look like Caterpillar Manna. Lol. Once they're established in the border do they self-propogate?

We get a few butterflies but not many, that is just in general so I cannot say if these specifically attract them. We do get a LOT of bees though, they mostly love the borage but also all the other flowering things in the garden such as the catnip, lavender, and so on. Though they get tons of seed, I have yet to see any tiny plants spring up, however, I think that is because of our climate. Most herbs, flowers, tomatoes, and peppers grow best from seed here when started in pots inside or in the greenhouse. That is what I had to do to get these going in the first place. Now feverfew, borage, and yarrow do not have a problem growing from fallen seeds, feverfew and borage especailly, those end up springing up all over the place and I end up having to pull many of them! Marshmallow does get bigger every year though so I can harvest more leaves each year off the same plant than I did the year before.

I make/sell pain relief products in New Zealand, you mentioned you have pain, I make a pain relief oil using comfrey root doing a hot infusion in grapeseed oil. Its a wonderful seller. I have many users that say this product is better than morphine, and I get 23-25 hours pain relief from one application. You could make just a small amount in a small container on the stove you have. Just cut roots up small, and I leave them in a crockpot on low for a day or so.

I grow many herbs good for pain relief and make several different blends that work great for me based off these herbs and also on some spices I buy because I cannot or do not grow them. I also have a muscle and joint rub I make that works great for that kind of pain. While I have a video on my two pain relief capsule blends scheduled to come out in a few weeks, I do have videos on my pain relief extract, muscle relaxer tincture, and also the muscle rub :)

So each fall can I cut at the lower stem to harvest and it still grow back next year? I’d like the roots to get thicker before harvesting those.

Yes, you can. I do not bother until spring as it is easier just to break off the old stalks then but of course, the dry stalks are not that pretty to look at through the winter

Maybe mine isn't marshmallow.. the leaves on mine are more round. I guess I better investigate it more. Sounds like a awesome plant though!

It could be a hollyhock from which I understand has similar benefits to the marshmallow, though you will want to look into that for yourself based on what that plant looks like.

Hi..doctor did cystoscopy and found " innumerable glomerulation with petechial hemorrhage seen in posterior bladder wall(typical of interstitial cystitis)". will this work in case of male patient? i am from india ..suffering from this disease since last 8 years.

Marshmallow is related to hibiscus roselle and I noticed my roselle grew very tall and in single stocks like your marshmallow, but when I topped them after they had about 8 pairs of leaves mine grew lots of side shoots, making my plants much more productive then the year’s previously had been. But the resells hibiscus are an annual so I don’t know if it would beneficial for you with the marshmallow. Marshmallow does not grow well here in central Florida, as for what I can find on google….. but anyways I was just trying to see if this might be something to try to see if you can get more flowers and leaves. Especially if you don’t want to uproot the whole plant for the roots.

Boy, this is an old video, my marshmallow gets 8-10 feet tall now and I have a whole forest of it in my back yard plus several more plants in other areas around the property. Now that it is well acclimated, I get a great many new baby plants that come up from fallen seeds every year. It can be used the same but if I remember correctly, does not have quite as many benefits as the Marshmallow, but still good

I do cut them back from time to time but it usually slows the production of flowers. However, the leaves have more benefits than the flowers do

Heidi, how do you make tea with the fresh leaves. My marshmallow plant is finally about 2 feet tall (after trying for a couple of years to grow it.) We have had a bad allergy season here that just won't quit. And - can I do the same with any herbal leaves from my garden that are okay for making tea such as echinacea? By the way, my marshmallow leaves are round not pointy like yours. I was worried I had the wrong plant when I discovered that there are varieties of marshmallow.

How young are your plants, the marshmallow leaves start out more round but get pointed as the plant matures through the season, I make tea from fresh leaves the same way I did in the recent tea video that published earlier this week
