Absolutely. She is brilliant. Martha makes it clear to everybody: if you want to keep fit and mentally alert well into old age, forget about mud baths, yoga for stiff joints, jogging, carrot diets, crossword puzzles, playing Bingo or whatever. There is only one way that surely works: (learn to) play the piano!
@Michael Holmethe 27 Chopin etudes the most important of all.Ask Martha Argerich .Hackneyed is a word foreign to Chopin's creations, except the vulgar misuse of the 3rd movement of his 2nd Sonata.
@@spfqr4977 In an article from Gramophone, Lyda Chen, her daughter, mentions that Martha wasn't sure if she played well, but after Zimerman calling her to tell her that it was the best he's ever heard, she said she probably didn't play so bad after all if Zimerman says so.
Listened to it today, nearly 4 years after this performance, and it still gives me shivers of emotion, just like it did in 2020. Thank you Mme Argerich for having given us this during difficult times !
When I was younger, I only paid attention to the technical aspects of her music, but in this way, the essence of her music has remained consistent. In a good way. I feel happy just to be able to listen to her playing now. Thank you, Dear Argerich.
Do you realize, these 2020-2021 Martha gave quite a lots of solo recital rather than previous years (more lot of chamber music), yes i agree to most comments here, we're lucky to have opportunity to listen her solo again. Bravissimo maestra!

Oh Ms. Argerich, i feel so very lucky to live during your lifetime! I have worshipped you since my undergraduate days..I will never forget having seeing you live in Switzerland. Highlight of my life. This recording. of Chopin, unequaled, really....

In she strolls, the master is at hand to perform her Chopin delights. Dressed in fabulous just for Freddie as certainly she would know him. The resonance of the Steinway immediately agrees with her voice and tone, then sublime becomes. Oh, Martha.
This is beautiful music. I just forgot Chopin or even the pianist ......... just beautiful sounds .......... how a strange feeling of quasi-perfection .....
From the few first scores you can find out. That's him.. Chopin... Doesn't matter if its sonata, polonaise, or prelude.... Its a magic sound that fills the surrounding space then spills out and goes farther... Overwhelmingly sparkling beauty of Chopin music.... The best composer ever walked the planet Earth....The ability to create such a harmony not comparable with anyone and anything. Its so unique...
I have known this marvelous artist all my life and am STILL moved tremendously by her. Since her recording of the Barcarolle when she was a kid (still haunts me). NOT A SINGLE WRONG NOTE, EVER (only a handful of masters like this). Her artistry spans through the solo works and concerti (her Prok#3 is legendary). She truly found her calling.... she's MADE for this instrument. We're lucky she continues to delight us into her twilight years :)
I played this Sonata in an Israeli competition back in a day and won second price for my category, I didn’t sound like Martha obviously but it reminds me of my time 🙋🏻♂️
25:50 That moment when she returns from her "silence" to the real silence of an empty hall, which is represented by that little "mmh" that she gasps, expecting applauses, is so sad........bloody pandemic!!!
I agree with Argerich being one of the greatest active pianists, and so fortunate to be able to still hear her play. Nothing against the new rising pianists but i grew up listening to Argerich, Richter, Horowitz, Rubinstein, Gould, Pollini etc
Ah Richter yeah. So marvellous in Das Wohltemperierter Klavier. Just the good tempi. And his 2nd Rachmaninoff. I bought them, well, about 50 years ago. Other generations always do the ratrace. How faster the better: NONONO
When I was young I looked at this piece and learnt 2 things. Firstly there were pieces I would never be able to play and secondly I didn't understand a note of it. Now 40 years later I think I do understand this neglected masterpiece. This performance was intense, deep and sublime. Wonderful just wonderful!
Thank you as always for this beautiful performance, for letting it be streamed on RU-vid. Thank you recording engineers too! Who needs TV when you can enjoy such musical perfection on RU-vid?
This sonata is one of the most elusive of all masterpieces ever I am privileged to know and admire. Its logic is profoundly cosmic with a philosophy that is gorgeously manifested and expounded to all the truly gifted music lovers of the world. This pianist is a consummate master musician who communicates the power, and scope of the visceral nature of this surpassing score. It has been an awesome favorite since the mid seventies. PWG
Very nice!!!
A whole musician's life passes me by when I hear this mature piano playing. Fantastically played - how balanced and like velvet and silk this expression in the piano playing.
