GWTW movie was the Jaws & Star Wars of its day. It was a game changer on how movies ought to look & sound. An epic soap opera story brought to life on the big screen. I wish they would offer a documentary in front of the movie about the history of slavery in the US, Jim Crow, & how Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel & other black actors were treated back then. But I don't think movie scenes should be cut from the film or the film be banned from film libraries. Margaret Mitchell made sure the reader knew throughout the entire book that the South was the big loser & was thus punished severely, that Scarlett never won & didn't live happily ever after. It was a cautionary tale of what happens when you are on the wrong side of what's right. I like to think the book & film opened eyes & was a baby step leading the way to Roots & 12 Years a Slave. The movie/book held a mirror up to their past in a way that Southerners could handle at that time ("a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down" approach), sparked international interest in the Civil War, & taught generations of readers/viewers about how to navigate through the ups & downs of life & relationships along the way. Not too shabby & should be recognized for its merits, critiqued, studied & not vilified.

The Left have turned into the censorship pigs they used to despise. Destroying art will never be intelligent or "progressive." In fact, they've hijacked the words "progressive" and "liberal"as neither actually describes anything coming from those idiots. They have turned into the intolerant, book burning Nazis. They even have one race of people as the evil oppressors, just like Nazis. *The current day Left/globalists are SICK HYPOCRITES who deserve to be ridiculed and mocked out of intelligent society.*

Uh, I don’t think that the novel is a criticism of the South as a whole. I think that the novel is really a love letter to the South, especially the old South. But it’s also not afraid to point out the flaws of it either. But by no means does the novel indicate that the South was on the wrong side of history. The novel exudes hatred towards the North. But that’s the point. It is _the_ great Southern novel, and heck probably a contender for “the great American novel” period.
@AnnaLVajda

I thought it was a very feminist sort of perspective of war and life at that time the Author was a Southern woman herself it just resonated how strong the women had to be they still could not even vote after the war while black MEN could they had no say in that war but they still lost their husbands brothers etc. Many died in childbirth worked in hospitals slaved in fields themselves and look how condemned the main character was just for wanting to run the lumber business because that was unlady like Rhett treated her horribly even though he pursued her for years. I always liked to think maybe she did get a happy ending after Rhett died Ashley and she probably finally got together since Melly had died and Bonny they would have needed eachother then.

Whatever it might be said, John Wayne in The Searchers, and Clark Gable in Gone With The Wind, are the most sensational achievements of actors acting in the history of the movies. Thanks be to God for those two giants of the screen, rip

"GWTW", IS AN AMAZING STORY OF SURVIVAL. THE UNNECESSARY, RACIST BLACK, STEREOTYPES, ARE A SIGN OF BOTH AMERICAN SOCIETY, AND HOLLYWOOD'S, ATTITUDES, AT THAT TIME. HATTIE MCDANIEL'S TALENT, DIGNITY, COURAGE, AND GRACE, DEMONSTRATED, WHO HAD HUMANITY, DIGNITY, AND GRACE. NOT NECESSARILY IN THAT ORDER.

It's garbage ,because it uses the currency of a fantasy version of history.....the reality of the genocide+ ,land theft of the native people; the deceit , mass rape ,murder,torture of slavery ,means that this authors whole outlook was smoke grenaded .....her heroine is navigating a rotten system, that benefitted a tiny minority,who enacted an invirtuous, murderous, sedition from the king of England......her world is an ideologically evil one , constructed immorally and amorally,for her classes benefit,at the constitutional,institutional, legislative ,expense of everyone else ; racially,+ socio-economically.....

jslasher1 facts💯 you’re asking a director who specializes in gangster movies about one of the most melodramatic romance movies ever made yes the GREATEST movie ever made period. As much as I like Scorsese’s work after awhile I feel like it’s the same stuff over and over. When you’re a great director who can do many different high levels of a diverse array of film genres then you can have the clout to comment on a fill as great as GWTW and have it hold some precedence and value but not for a director who while great in his genre of film really hasn’t produced high level film outside of his own genre.

@@46foryounger Is Taxi Driver a gangster movie? Is Raging Bull? There are gangsters in it, but it's not a gangster movie. What about Last Temptation of Christ? Shutter Island? Hugo? Is that not diverse? Of all the films Scorsese has directed, maybe 6 or 7 of them are gangster movies.
@filmbuff2777
@filmbuff2777 3 года назад
@@46foryounger You clearly know NOTHING about Scorsese's body of work if think he only does gangster movies & has no diversity. Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Taxi Driver, New York New York, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Color of Money, After Hours, The Last Temptation of Christ, Cape Fear, The Age of Innocence, Kundun, Bringing Out the Dead, Gangs of New York (despite part of the word gangster in the title, it is not a Mafia film, which is what people like you refer to when you say he only does gangster movies), The Aviator, Shutter Island, Hugo, The Wolf of Wall Street & Silence are NOT gangster movies. The only movies in that genre are Mean Streets, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed & The Irishman. The rest of his work are quite diverse. A family fantasy (Hugo), period costume romance (The Age of Innocence), religious pieces (Last Temptation, Silence), thrillers (Cape Fear, Shutter Island), & even quite bizarre dark comedies like After Hours. That is quite diverse. Besides, what does what films one makes qualifies them to talk about cinema? If you actually knew anything about Scorsese, he is a HUGE lover of cinema history & strongly advocates film preservation. He knows more about the history of the medium than just about anyone alive. But, even if your ignorant logic about having to be diverse in the medium is the only qualification to talk about cinema history, then Scorsese still can talk about Gone With the Wind because he made The Age of Innocence & Gangs of New York. Both period pieces. And again, YOU haven't made any films, so according to your logic, you can't talk about film in general.
@spb7883

Not a good film in the slightest; schmaltz at its absolute highest, and that's a fact. But holds up as an important part of film history, in terms of scope & commercial success. Birth of a Nation ANYWAY goes WAY further with the racist bullshit (not to say this movie didn't have it) and while it is probably at least the first movie to come out of the vault, it is more or less unbearable in its second half. Not to mention unnecessary. Also, it tries to make a STATEMENT about what black people are, even technical flaws in the filmmaking. GWTW simply glosses over slavery to not have to deal with the horrors of it, passes it off as okay, so it can move on with the romance at the center. GWTW is the Birth of a Nation that people CAN watch in the long run. Casablanca is a good (certainly not great) film and Gone with the Wind is a terrible, but important, film. FACTS.
