Can you believe that Cubby Broccoli thought he was too aggressive for Bond??

I can't understand this at all. It sounds simply idiotic excuse for not giving the part to Lewis Collins -who would have been a perfect James Bond. Gorgeous, great with guns, deep drawl for a voice, heartbreaking eyes and features - he missed nothing. Besides, the amount of violence and aggressiveness is dictated by the script and the director - not the actor! This is so wrong in every possible way. Lewis would have been among the best JBs that graced the silver screen, a beautiful man inside out. Mr. Shaw is absolutely right. God bless and rest his soul.

@@randywhite3947 You can say that to anyone, it holds no edge but to be used a weapon. Bond should be WHITE get over the WOKE!! ALSO other Bond fans are people of colour and some of them want him to be white!!!! Are non white Bond fans racist, too! Why don't you want him as a white, British, male?

Moore should have left after Moonraker, Collins would have been perfect in For Your Eyes Only onwards

Agree he was ready for his pension, instead of keep playing him.

Nice to hear this from Martín Shaw, considering that he reportedly actually objected to Lewis being cast as Bodie (maybe he was expecting to be the cool one!) and that the two of them never really got along in real life.

That happened for a short time because the company had origianlly casted another actor who also was MS's friend and replacing him didn't sit well with Mr. Shaw. (I doubt that would sit well with anyone). They 'didn;t like each other" since the Avengers they'd met as extras. But it was resolved later and did great good to the rivalry/chemistry between the characters. Admiteddly, and I think with quite some regret, Mr. Shaw had expressed that they had an off-screen family relationship with Lewis, apart from the back stage photos from the professionals where they seem to be quite happy and joking with each other, as families, when Lewis got married and had his first-born. Watch Lewis Collins 'This is your life" where he has a message by Mr. Shaw from where he was shooting "The hound of Baskervilles" and also, a video with an interview with mr. Gordon Jackson present, seated in a couch and Lewis is ruffling Martin Shaws' notorious perm, laughing happily. I think that yes, despite the general 'dislike' they had in the beginning (and that was the original thought of the producers to fix the dull chemistry that existed with the other actor) they resolved it really well. there's always tension among people that work so close for so many hours, and those scenes were quite tenacious (I sttill remember Lewis barely managing to grab a rail and hang on over a 60 feet gap underneath when a simple plank fell under his feet leaving him in thin air, and Martin grabbing him and helping him up in safety. (There's a video with the scene from 3 different angles) and the director kept it.

Collins was my choice as Bond in the early 80's. The Professionals was my favourite TV programme. However Dalton & Brosnan were also great.

Cubby Brocoli tested Lewis. However Dalton had been his long term target. Brosnan had been his short term target after Brosnan starred in Remington Steel & The Forth Protocol.

Collins could do humour. He was in a sit com. Not sure he could have done the more sensitive Bond which was a direction they were taking in the mid 80's.

Lewis would have to slick back his hair to be Bond. His haircut on The Professionals was too scruffy.

Not sure Lewis could carry a big Bond film. His only big cinema film was Who Dares Wins. Never really became a leading man on the big screen. Was handsome enough although not 6 feet.

He would have made a better and more genuine Bond than that window plant of a Craig!
