Martin Short (Lumière) and Shania Twain (Mrs. Potts) perform 'Be Our Guest.' Watch 'Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration' THURS DEC 15 8/7c on ABC and Stream Next Day on Disney+ and Hulu.
I really love the touch of the puppeteers beneath the table smiling and waving as their bow after that amazing dishes sequence. That takes some huge timing and talent, they definitely earned a nod all their own.
Its so strange for a puppeteer to receive recognition, Its one of those jobs that is only noticed when its done badly. Really nice for them to wave in this. they deserve it!
I love Martin Short. Everytime he does that accent, I think of Franck from Father of the Bride. He killed it as usual. And so did Shania Twain. The whole thing is beautiful. Took me back to 8 yrs old watching it on VHS tape and singing every word. I loved it
They could not have picked a more perfect Lumiere! Martin Short was brilliant! I just adore him. And you can tell he's having SOOOO much fun in this!!!! Shania - goddess! I'm one day younger than her - 57! Look how gorgeous she is and how strong and PERFECT her voice still is! She had Lyme disease which damaged her vocal chords but clearly they've fully healed!
I think actually her voice still isnt quite fully recovered - range still not what it once was and they had to be careful with her in rehearsals as well. She was wonderful though.
THIS. This is why so many people love theatre, or at least why I love it. It’s a combined passion-soup of so many talented folks with so many amazing skills! It’s clear that everyone involved had the time of their lives putting this together, and it’s amazing!
Arguably one of the most recognizable, and yes, overused, songs from the Disney canon. And yet, Martin Short still managed to find new life in it, while paying homage to the original. And Shania Twain, an unlikely and yet very strong Mrs. Potts. Kudos to both...this was rousing!
@@amjiva I know people got tired of "Let it Go" mostly because they had kids that played it 100 times, but I still like that song and that's one of my favorite movie scenes. Partly because I live in Minnesota and really like the snow lol.
Shania Twain was the biggest surprise for me! It wasn’t that I didn’t think she could do it. It was just never having thought to pick her for the role. She did a very lovely job. She didn’t try to be Angela Lansbury just honored her performance by doing a beautiful one of her own instead. ❤ And of course a Martin Short and David Allen Grier were top shelf, too!
@@CelesteKTheNewWaveRevue Yes it was him singing on a pre-recorded track, but he wasn't singing live, ie singing and acting were not happening at the same time...
If you’re surprised that Martin Short can sing, don’t forget that he sang “Playing With The Big Boys” in Prince of Egypt with Steve Martin and they also had the Three Amigos theme song.
Well he did star in a production of the musical Godspell with his fellow SCTV alumnis Dave Thomas, Victor Garber, and Eugene Levy and that seemed to help him out a lot.
I feel like a little kid watching this for the first time. I have goosebumps. The pure magic of this could make anyone feel like a little kid again. I don't know whether to applaud or say thank you. And as for Martin Short, I swear we don't deserve this man. Still crushing it after all these years.
i said from the start that casting Martin Short as Lumiere was absolutely inspired. I genuinely can't think of anyone who can pull off that kind of frantic, fabulous, infectiously joyful energy as well as he does.
Jim Carrey. Hugh Jackman. If you’re looking for theatre vets, Gavin Lee, Patrick Page, John Tartaglia, Gavin Creel, Christian Borle, Andrew Rannells, John Bolton, Wesley Taylor, Christopher Fitzgerald…
I had no idea Martin Short could perform like this. Shania was great and thank you for allowing the people under the table to wave and be a little visible after their stunning work. That couldn’t have been easy.
Martin Short was in the original cast of Godspell and has starred in three Broadway musicals, and you’re still somehow surprised he can perform live? 😂
Shania was an unexpected choice for Mrs Potts, and indeed it isn't the Mrs Potts we used to - but I still absolutely adore her in this role! The way she made the character her own is very very impressive and she's got such a powerful energy (at, like 55?)
That table is alive! Literally! I was thinking if they will just show the movie in the background and oh boy we were given the best treat! Hats off to the production team! This is magical!
This is amazing - the voices, the choreography, THOSE COSTUMES 🥹 Beauty & the Beast was my favorite Disney movie as a kid! The year after it came out, my dance school’s annual recital was A Tribute to Disney, and my tap class danced to Be Our Guest 🥹 Haha this song has a special place in my heart for that very reason 😂
@@possumprincess239 have you been living in a cave for the past 30 years? Shania has since become the Country Pop Queen and one of the most celebrated divas.
I thought I couldn't love Marty more, but after this... I realised that my love for him has increased a lot with this fantastic performance 🥰 His energy it's amazing, his singing it's so powerful... I mean, he IS Lumiere
It was this very movie that got me into Angela Lansbury. She is so amazing. Then I run into this, this morning and see that Shania Twain is Mrs. Potts. I cannot say enough how much I loved all of this. I adore Shania and seeing her in a role singing the very song that got me to love Angela Lansbury was.... moving to say the least. Everything in this was outstanding but I can't say enough about Shania. Love, love, love all of this. She just proved why I love her.
I have to disagree on Shania's vocals. She's not projecting through the end of the lines on the slightly higher notes. Like a rough transition from chest voice to head voice in a place where it really shouldn't be. Despite not having sold a bazillion albums, Martin short outperformed her hands down.
Wow! ❤ Shania Twain really nailed the part of Ms. Pots. I would never have guessed anyone could have ever done this as well as Angela Lansbury did. Rest in peace Angela.
This production was AMAZING!! H.E.R. nailed it in playing Belle, Josh Groban played an amazing Beast and the rest of the cast was just superb!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Yas! She slayed her performance of Beauty and the Beast as well. I’m glad that after everything that happened with her getting Lyme disease and losing her voice she’s regained some of her confidence and her vocals are improving as evident between this and her peoples choice awards performance. Plus she still looks gorgeous🥹
This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S HOW THE MOVIE SHOULD HAVE BEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Magnificent, superb, true artists, everyone envolved, ASTOUNDING, BRAVI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In almost every season of “the masked singer” judge Ken Jeong swears one of the celebrities under the mask is Martin Short. I think he should watch this performance on repeat so he’s a little more accurate next time lol!
Martin Short clearly showing his ability. He knocked it out of the park! I think Shania's voice sounded kinda weak especially in her transitions between chest and head. She was serving good face though.
Exactly what I said in a previous comment. She seems pretty limited to wishy washy country vocals. She's never had much power in her voice, and limited range.
This is amazing! This song always hyped me up in the movie, especially the renaissance version. I always wanted that scene to be respected for the pure musical magic. This is perfect. Bravo!
Martin Short pulled this number perfectly! And Shania Twain did a great job as Mrs. Potts, putting her own creativity to it. Especially that we are used to the Angela Lansbury rendition. These two are excellent professionals in their craft!
OMFG, impressive, that was what the live action should have been! Felt like I was back to my child days watching this, for I realized as I've grown up that I had slowly become like the villagers (lost in routine, making money to pay my bills), and even more considering how these decades have been rough in my country. I totally forgot what I was to be like Belle. I'm tearing up!
For those of you who said I was wrong for doubting Martin Short could play such a classic Disney animated character like Lumiere, I said that I did think wrong!
3:17 "course by course" That moment in the original movie (for whatever reason) is probably one of the most iconic Disney moments ever. Martin Short pulled it off.
crying listening to happy song dammit :') their voices amazing, the costumes, coreography, the designs, and nostalgia struck seeing and listening to Shania :''
Really enjoyed watching the whole thing & loved how they acknowledged Angela. Just a bit sad she wasn't there IN person to see it. But I'm sure she was watching & singing along in Heaven.
