“We’re going to witness Levy, present a Candy, to Short.” I friggin love that line, by the man, the myth, the Legend, you guessed it, Frank Stallone. Thanks for a plethora of laughs Norm.
The most moving and emotional part of his award acceptance speech was when he thanked his late wife, Nancy. I thought Marty was going to cry when he mentioned Nancy. RIP Nancy Dolman Short
I was holding my breath when they shifted the camera to the audience. I was afraid they would assume that the woman sitting next to him was his wife when she'd passed 6 years earlier.
Hello from Britain. Martin Short might well be the most consummate comedian in the world. Certainly just about the nicest. More awards for this genius please.
I do not think anyone can deny his comedy charisma.. but i am sad when people do not mention his role as Frik, in the Merlin series. Martin Short was truly wonderful there.
Martin Short is a comic genius; it's only fitting that he be feted by the great Norm MacDonald. Great to see Martin and the other SCTV alums. Catherine O'Hara is still beautiful. RIP, John Candy.
If I had to pick one favorite entertainer of my lifetime, this here would be the one. So sad that his lovely wife Nancy is no longer here to enjoy life but hopefully they'll meet again one day. Here's one big maple leaf syrup salute to Martin Short.
As a kid I used to get out of bed and sneak downstairs to watch SCTV Martin Short, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Andrea Martin, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis, Joe Flaherty where probably the greatest ensemble cast ever to grace a stage together.
I had a tear in my eye when they played through all his work. And the end of the clip when he was singing on his special with paul, I don't know why but that really got me.
It's the brutal winters. They have nothing to do but be funny about it or they'll never survive. Same thing with Chicago. Why not Alaska, you say? Well, Alaska sucks. That's all that is.
I don't know where we get our humour from but it does seem to be pretty natural part of being Canadian. You see the same humour in everyday Canadians that you see in the Hollywood Cdn comedians.
I used to not like him, don't know why. then I grew up and realized his genius. LIke no other. Brilliant. Love this man's mind and comedy and abilities
Thank you, Canada, for giving us the majority of the SCTV cast. The best comedy I was fortunate enough to see in my college years, and in my opinion funnier than SNL. Great comedy on a shoestring budget.
I grew up watching Monty Python. I’ve always loved that type of humor. When I first saw Martin Short on SCTV, I was absolutely blown away. This was truly one funny human being. Every character that he came up with was brilliant because they were somewhat relatable. I hope there is a lot more to come from this comedic genius. 😂🤣😂🤣🙃😜🤨❗️❕❗️❕❗️🇨🇦❕
A compilation with mostly film-stuff almost can't do Martin Short justice. The original characters and physical comedy he's done over the years are really first rate. From the amazing stuff of SCTV to the classic banter of Jiminy Glick and everything in between, Marty Short is _totally_ worthy of high recognition for his life-long contributions to comedy. Plus he's just a good dude.
Greater than the sum of his enormously talented parts. Can’t imagine how bittersweet it must have been to thank his sweetheart at the end of that acceptance speech. Blessing upon blessing, without ending, Martin Short.🙏🏼🕊
It's always interesting to see a persons range. His comedy is unquestionable. When I saw him act in the series Damages it was like watching Eddie Murphy act in Dreamgirls. Amazing!
Love that they're giving him this now: he'll be on the couch in 20 years joking with Fallon when Fallon is looking like Letterman today XD. This man is no where NEAR done.
I think you are an amazing man ..... You have brought so much joy and happiness to the world and you deserve all the awards that comes your way. I’m astounded by your humility It was wonderful to hear you give kudos to your late wife Your a gift to the world And I just love you .....
Let me just say he was frick in the merlin mini series from 1998 and I've watched that a million times. His character has a bigger arc than anyone in the story and goes through the biggest transformations physically, mentally, spiritually. That mini series is A+ but martin short is such a huge role in it. Starting as merlin's mentor then becoming enemies, then allies, and finally friends after decades of history. Also Martin Short is the lead in pebble and the penguin, which he sings to barry manilow's original music. And he and Steve martin are the high priests in prince of Egypt, where he sings again. So unappreciated even for someone recognized.
That Godspell cast in Toronto included not only Levy and Short but other future Second City Toronto cast members Dave Thomas, Andrea Martin, Paul Schaffer, and Gilda Radner--an amazing constellation of talent.
A fitting tribute to Martin Short and to the world's most admirable country: Canada. Let's hope they never put up a wall to keep us troublemaking Americans out.
Noe Berengena Naaaah. We couldn't afford it... lol That's very kind of you to say, but I don't know if we really deserve the accolade you've given us of "the world's most admirable country." Maybe I think that because I'm one of those "lowly Canadians" that Jim mentioned. ;p
Not since Charlie Chapman Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis have I ever seen such a gifted comedian as Martin short! Well deserved sir! Well deserved. No one can crack a joke quite like the Germans. They're just a happy bunch of people that throughout history everyone has thoroughly enjoyed God bless you to the furthest heavens , Dear Martin short. Oh shit, shit I meant Canadians!
Martin short you are such a real gift to all of us who have watched you and laughed so hard that your antics Thank you so much for giving us such pleasure you had an amazing man and loved by all of us thank you again
I read some comment that said Canadians act the same way on the street as people do in comedy films from Hollywood. I think its true that humour is a big part of our natural communication. Canada is 1/10 the size of the U.S population and has contributed nearly 20% of great American talent and comedy. We've doubled our talent output because we dont take ourselves too seriously and entertainment starts at a street level and goes up from there. That keeps it honest, real and original. We're often mining our best material at a base level on each other.
Truly one of the very few actual comedic geniuses of the last 2 centuries. I've adored Marty for 30 plus years. And lucky enough as a kid to have met him and got him to actually send me 3 headshot personalized autographs through the years. Super nice guy for someone soo crazy with soo many bizarre characters to rolodex. Congrats and unconditional love to you and always for all the years of extreme laughter and happiness. Your the best Marty.
