Mike and Reed discuss the upcoming x-men reboot and go through the books that marvel is launching. They go over how many of the books will be able to succeed long term and whether or not marvel's new approach can bring back some fans.
@@Comicsneverything Yep, a little more focus on a more manageable story would be great, they seem to go into so many directions and introduce so many storylines, powers and plot threads that it makes the story hard to believe at best and nonsensical at worst
There are far too many x-men books. Hard to believe there was once a time when there was only 1 X-men book. Could you imagine if the did that now? I’ll give some of these books a fair shake and I’ll continue to enjoy wolverine deep cuts. God bless you guys and have great day!
It is hard to believe that there was just one book not that long ago. Hopefully at some point the line can go back to something manageable like 4-5 books. Wolverine Deep Cuts was really good this week, a solid first issue
I got out after Hickman’s inferno and x lives and deaths of Wolverine. These new creatives don’t excite me, looking to be more of the same. Jed McKay is the only one I may flip through at the comic shop, but I have doubts I’ll take it home 😂 I’m gonna get the Hickman/Capulo Wolverine mini series whenever that comes out for sure though. I even ordered the red band version from my LCS.
Looking forward to the Hickman/Capullo book as well! Great to see a legit great creative team on a book. Was really sad that inferno was the end of hickman on X-men, he really seemed to have grand plans and will always be an amazing what if, as far as how the run could have gone had he been able to stay
@@RMLitegrade That last inferno issue was pretty awesome though. Magneto and Charles fighting Nimrod to the death! There was also that X-men unlimited Latitude Hickman did after Inferno, but I honestly don’t remember what happened in it.
Too many books. Period. Who can afford this? I returned to the X-men after a 15 year absence when Hickman launched the Krakoa era and it looked like a jumping on point. I was briefly excited but soon found myself dropping title after title from the expense, the padded "write for the trade" writing, and eventually just got down to 2 books after a little over a year. What finished me off was realizing that Hickman managed to make comic book deaths 100% meaningless because any character's death was totally temporary. I agree : X-man and Uncanny X-men, 2 books, with all the great characters, if done well, would pull me back in. 17 Books a month X $5/book equals $1,020.00 a year. Love the X-man but not that much !
prime example about what you guys were talking about at the end is Alpha flight. I picked up this latest run this year and it only went to issue #5 and then they dropped it. It makes me gun shy to invest, if I start buying and then they rug pull me again. Really the only title I'm fully committed to is Conan by Titan comics.
Sad with all the x related books that alpha flight, a team which absolutely needs more stories and could use some development but instead stuff like sentinels and a mystique gets greenlit, some of the choices just seem to be confusing. Great to hear you are enjoying Conan, it is as good as it gets with comics!
Mental to me that neither Colossus nor Iceman are anywhere to be seen for this relaunch, like there’s 6 teams and you can fit them on ANY of them? Very weird to me
It is crazy that those two are missing, especially given 6 different team books, that there are 13 different X-books if you include the 12 new ones and deadpool, an ultimate x-men book and you cant find either of them anywhere is just crazy
I don’t have much interest in any of the writers involved. I think Ryan Stegman and David Marquez are excellent artists but I am 99.9% positive that neither of these artists will last longer than 3-4 issues. Overall the relaunch is not exciting to me. It’s just more of the languid status quo of Marvel’s recent history. HOWEVER, I am excited about the Hickman/Capullo Wolverine mini. I have been enjoying the Claremont/Salazar miniseries Wolverine: Madripoor Knights and Wolverine: Deep Cuts. I hope long time X-men fans can find something in this relaunch that they will enjoy though.
The Wolverine content lately has been great to see. Stegman and Marquez are probably two of the biggest selling points for the new line but you are probably correct in that it would be hard to envision either of them being on the book for over a year and mostly likely within that year they will do only a handful of issues
I believe blood hunt only has one more main issue left with a few tie ins that have a couple of issues left. Overall the main concern with something like blood hunt is will the event actually have major ramifications that go on for the long term, which has been rare with any marvel or dc event lately
@@RMLitegradethere is a Blood Hunters series coming out after the event. IDK if it will be any sort of ongoing or part of a larger brand, but it is a team with vampire Miles Morales
@@stephenjohnson9745 Good to hear there is at least one aspect of the event that seems to be going forward. If you are going to have a universe dominating event there at least needs to be some change, so maybe the blood hunters team and the vampire change to miles can stay around for a bit to make the event some what impactful
The X-Men gave all the reasons to be hated and feared now. Fall Of X turned all them in killers. How Rogue can keep the old dream alive at this point? Even Xavier become a villain. Krakoa ruined the soul of the team forever to me.And there will be another "Schism" between Cyclops and Rogue teams and yet I'm not interested in read a new X-Men book again after all Krakoa garbage in the latest years. The frachise is dead to me.
It will be very hard to recover from krakoa, especially given so many actions that the characters made. At the very least it needs to be a long time before anyone on the X-men gives wolverine junk for going to far or being too violent, they have no room to talk anymore
I read X-Men #1. It was better than the previous age but still lacked the magic of the 90's era. The characters are too wooden and Cyclops looks like he is young again.
Happy to hear that there was some improvement, We certainly are planning on reading that one here on the channel after the initial reviews, seemed to be positive, we will probably have a review on it sometime in the next week
I think I disagree with most of your argument. I think the more content the better. Like they said they will have something for everyone, you can try a book out and if it isn't for you just don't read it. For the people who like it now they have sooo much more content. I think solo books are just here to stay. Just about every hero has a solo book and marvel just did a bunch of solo 1 shots for blood hunt for characters that muuuuch less popular. I think your argument is like going to a buffet and complaining YOU only like the pizza and why would they have all these other items YOU don't like the taste of.
Thanks for watching and commenting! While we may not agree on the approach there are certainly some solid points that you bring up about the amount of variety that will be available, while you can argue that it dilutes the brand you can also similarly argue that it expands the brand and gives it greater reach as well, time will tell if that approach is successful, but it certainly is not without merit to bring that up. Regardless thanks for sharing your opinion and watching, at the end of the day sounds like we both want good X-Men comics and hopefully what marvel is doing now will work, if the approach they have is successful and we get great X-men comics, both of us here on the channel will be happy to be proved wrong as anything that gives us great X-men content is a win for us and for comic fans even if we disagree with the approach.
@@RMLitegrade Well said, i think you come from that standpoint that if they focus on less books then the overall quality will be better. There may still be some truth to this. I am hopeful that all the titles will have good writing and art, but as someone who is new to the hobby, I'm just excited to be able to jump on from the start
@@Gorrgrim Great to hear you are new to the hobby, hopefully you find some great books to enjoy and there are so many awesome older stories for you to check out as well. Would be great if all of X-men books get great talent that really writes the stories well. Always a good thing to root of the creatives and hope they can deliver
