I have returned to the "back 40" to rebuild the carb on the Massey Ferguson 165.
Let's see if we can get this thing running a little bit better.

The ease at which you tear those carbs apart amazes me, thanks for sharing your gifts! And your humility is what makes your channel special, keep up the great work! And nice job getting the old girl purring again! God Bless!

I noticed when you put the needle in, you didn't have a gasket and washer. I have the tsx-769, do I not need those?

Great job! I’m going to have to do similar work to my 1950 Farmall Cub. No spark and gas running out of the carburetor! Maybe I should make a video. You done good my friend!

What was the cleaning solution did you use? It looked like it was in a gas can. I have just got a ultrasonic cleaner. I do not know what to use.

When the venturi came out, I just knew it would only go one way. Wrong again! I do stuff like that over and over..... I'm curious about that carb and intake arrangement - do they sometimes experience vapor lock? I'm trying to decide if my hot start issues with the '47 Chevy are due to 1) Too rich mixture in manifold because of gas vapors generated when the car is shut off and gas boils in carb, or 2) Too little fuel in bowl due to it having boiled out after shutoff. I grew up thinking vapor lock affected the fuel pump, because the fuel in the line was vaporized and the pump couldn't handle it. Now that I've experienced something like that a couple of times, I wonder if my childhood ideas were off-point. Could the updraft carb and intake manifold arrangement on the tractor keep some of the fuel vapors from collecting, and prevent hard starts when hot? I'm afraid the hood design on the '47 Chevy may contribute to hot start issues, as it may tend to collect the rising heated air and keep it on the carb.

Any of that could be possible. I wonder, is your heat riser gate on the exhaust manifold stuck open? That would be my first check.

@@TheJayhawker Yeah, I checked that and I have it wired in the "non-heating" position. With the weather warming up now, I'll be monitoring it and trying to learn what the root cause is. Last summer, I drove it to the gas station (ethanol-free) and it would not start until after about an hour (or until I turned it over enough). I was gonna call a rollback if it didn't start that last time. I couldn't tell if I had cleared it of vapors by turning it over enough, or if I had refilled the carb bowl by turning it over. I might keep a little gas bottle with me, and next time it won't start hot, put some fuel in the carb bowl thru the vent. I have a glass bowl filter at the carb, and when it's hot, I can see bubbles pushing back into the filter. Thanks for the response!
