No one in the middleweight division back in the 1980's could beat Marvin Hagler he was a skilled boxer puncher who was primarily a southpaw and ambidextrous which made him very dangerous. There was no one in his weight class that could give him a serious challenge or a big payday. His best challengers were the legends who moved up in weight Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard. As a pure middleweight against other career 160 lb. contenders Marvelous Marvin Hagler's skill set was ahead of his time.
@@jimnagel5611 I agree, but as a Hagler fan I feel Marvin fought the wrong fight that night. He tried to fight Leonard's fight. He tried to outbox the boxer but I still feel he won but it would have been more convincing had he fought HIS fight.
Actually he tried to fight against the higher weight division champion, but all of them turn down the offer. He could be the multi division champ actually.
@@greenmountavenue4122you ,being a Hagler fan, must have missed Leonard in complete control of the fight.Only getting a little closer when Leonard got tired at the end of a couple of rounds do to his inactivity over the years.
@@jeremysipes44 that is just too funny Mayweather Jr learned from Leonard. Don't fight them till they get old. Don't engage until the end of the round and make it look pretty. No need to hit hard just pretty
MARVELOUS with a BEAUTIFUL KNOCKOUT ! Pound for Pound THE BEST. Didn't catch this fight live, HBO was a baby. But DID catch that AARON PRYOR vs ALEXIS ARQUELLO on CBS. Fight of the Decade.
thanks much for this. love watching shows with all the pre-fight stuff. what a strange venue and occasion though. 'toy' ring, hardly any audience, and most of them sitting unresponsive. great win for MMH nevertheless......
Marvin had this knack of jumping in with the right hook, & he did the same thing with his right jab - jumping in with the jab seemed to multiply it's power & turn it into a power-shot....
IVE BEEN A HAGLER FAN WHEN I SEEN HIM FIGHT FOR THE TITLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I THOUGHT HE WON THAT FIGHT I REALLY DIDN'T KNOW HIM BEFORE THAT I THINK HAGLER WAS MADE TO BE A FIGHTER.
A fight you want to watch during the weekend , wife & kids gone out . Just myself & some beers .🤗 No one , I mean no one got anything on Marvelous Marvin Hagler . He would put GGG & Canelo in a coma.
Tenía que aver un ganador ! Y cualquiera d los 2 tenía que caer, salutez a los dos donde quiera que estén. Salutez y grazie pur le video , adioos amigooos . Desde Ags, mex.21,12,2021
No problem mate, uploading Roldan and Sibson today/tomorrow. Also have Hart, Briscoe Fully Obel I and a few others. All will be uploaded, takes time uploading and mega slows my internet. So I can't do it constantly as I'm on wireless not wired.
Obel looked to be improved early on from the first fight, utilizing that scythe-like right uppercut to the body and those bolo shots to the head, landing some good shots and generally keeping the fight at his own range. This shows that if the situation called for it, Hagler could always fight the kinda fight he did against Hearns. From the third round on he just switched up his state of mind, bored into Obel and started trading and banging away, which Obel clearly was unable to take much of. The fight became one-sided very quickly after that.
The tremendous conditioning he displays is incredible. Constantly fresh, energetic and ready. It is so satisfying to know that all the great fighters and actors are holding the test of time.
Hagler was pissed he had to fight this challenger instead of Hearns or a big name for a big payday. Obel wasn’t a left challenger and every time he beat someone with the promise of a big $ fight the goal lost was moved. He deserved the $15mil he got for Hearns & the $25 he earned vs Leonard. A fight he won if the judges Ahmad truly been impartial! They were NOT fair judges. They were protecting a lesser fighter.
One of the BEST post on Boxing I've ever seen. I sincerely do thank U for posting this video. AMAZING. & the best part, right B4 the Fighter's Announcement, the weEd kicked in...woW! Makes me ready to "Throw Down"
He would not be 50-0. He would be forced to fight elite level fighters at not wait till they aged out or some other tactic. He would have had to fight Donald Curry, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benitez, Hector Camacho etc... his myth would have been exposed.
@@fitzgeraldanthony9333 You know Floyd was older and naturally smaller than a lot of the guys he fought at welterweight and super welterweight right? I intend no disrespect, and I'll try not to assume you're part of the crowd who listens to biased media and doesn't do the research. Duran for example, fought against some guys who would be considered tomato cans during his reign; this when Duran was 60 plus fights into his career and he fighting guys with less than 10 fights. Some of y'all real selective with what y'all criticize. What about Leonard waiting till Hagler was old, or waiting till Hearns was on the slide before giving him a rematch? Wilfred Benitez fought a lowly ranked fighter named East Boy Lake or something like that 3 times lol.. There's many fighters from that era we can nitpick. The business of boxing changes over time, as it does with other sports. And the athletes adjust with the times accordingly. Don't have to shit on other boxers to promote other boxers.
My laptop with all my fights broke, I still have the hard drive but want to make sure it wasn't the hard-drive that caused the break before I put it into my other laptop. I should be able to get it in sometime, I'll keep the request in mind. As for the match-up. I think Hearns has this, not because Floyd is worse but he's too small and if anything is bad for Floyds counter-punching it's Hearns massive reach and boxing ability. Floyd will make it competitive but he'll lose a decision IMO.
For years people ducked Hagler and when he finally won the title he was determined to just mop the floor with anybody who fought him. He took on every number 1 contender and ducked no one! I still contend tha Hagler beat Leonard!
SRL was a great boxing who had sharp punches and great combinations, and he was faster on his feet than Hagler. SRL also had the same kind of determination. I think their fight in 87 was close, but SRL was retired for years and still won a controversial decision. I think if Leonard was in his prime he might have outboxed Hagler.
I just realised who the referee is. The same guy who refereed DURAN's absolute destruction of Davey Moore. I thought he was slow to stop that fight. Moore could have been killed. And Duran was absolutely unatoppable. This was a routine workout for MMH. RIP to him.
I know Marvin Hagler beat Obelmejias 2 times, but Obel was vicious puncher definately!! I think he rocked Hagelr couple times in this fight and many times in first fight!!
