Just please somebody get this cord out of the way. I am fearing for his life, the way he's dancing around it.

Is he sorry because he went a little further on time? That must be a joke! We have to be thankful to him that he lectures in such an enthusiastic way.

Every philosophy professor I've had was passionate, one maybe more than this. If you get the right philosophy professors they can be off the chain

To me a big thing to point out to people is how much of an effect surplus value has. After the initial investment, when the person or people who started a company breaks even, and pay off initial investment. Everything, even "expenses" and initial resources are being paid for by surplus value. So at a certain point EVERYTHING is being paid for by the workers labor, all the bosses paychecks, all the company expenses, all the new equipment or initial materials to make commodities, ALL of it, the entire freaking capitalist class essentially, is paid for by the labor of the workers through surplus value. That is one of the many reasons it is exploitation. An entire class is completely sustained off of profit stolen (surplus value) from the workers. Unless it's new workers have paid for the entirety of the workplace they work at, and the paycheck of the hierarchy, and the machines and tools. The workers already paid for the means of production, literally. Yet others "own" the means of production, and use the means of the production to control the workers who use the means of production to sustain themselves and against their consent the entire capitalist class.

Sounds like an absolutely massive ancient history canon/collection? 150 volumes, he said, and I assume each volume would be a couple hundred pages, at least. I don’t know if this is actually something that a person can buy, but I’m definitely going to try and find out what it is, bc it sounds fascinating.. ✌️

Histories of Polybius? I couldn't find anything but that but that at most seems to be 40 volumes. Polybius was some ancient historian. 😂 PolyBS is what we should call modern news casters But it sounded like he said Poly visova or something

silk worms would survive without producing silk? Human would survive without producing thought experimental bile? analogy is pretty poor
@rakka64
@rakka64 3 года назад
No you don't get it. He's saying silk worms don't need to be given an incentive to produce silk because making silk is in their nature. Humans are similar because when you look at how we choose careers, what interests you is what motivates you to work. Capitalists don't want to get rid of poverty because they say if people aren't scared of becoming poor they'd stop working and that's what this analogy criticizes

@@rakka64 good explanation. Although I do think you're giving this person much more credit than they deserve. There's no interest in actually understanding the idea better. Just someone that had a bad day and is flinging dung to make themselves feel a bit better.

@@tomisaacson2762 fine point, but personally I think it’s useful to respond if only for other people who might see the thread later. I often know when I’m responding to someone who isn’t going to acknowledge my point, or even attempt to have a good faith conversation, and accept it in the hope that what I say might be useful to someone else who comes across the thread. It just might help someone else understand, or point them in the right direction, and potentially could do so for many others, whether or not the OP cares. ✌️

To be fair to Cambridge University, they reviewed their policies and amended them to better align with free speech - thus demonstrating a learning or listening institution.
