In case you missed it.. (A Shorthand version of her recipe..) Recipe 6oz Unsalted butter Lemon rind finely grated 4oz Caster sugar 8oz Plain Flour Roll in granulated sugar..or Demerara sugar Gas 3 For anyone wondering bake in Electric oven 160c ..or 325f 25 mins or until crisp. Method. Mix butter and sugar first with lemon rind..now mix in flour.. use hands as it helps it come together. Chill and roll in sugar ..and bake . At this stage you can wrap in cling film and freeze ..so take out of the freezer and defrost when fresh biscuits are needed .

I grew up in the netherlands in the 1980's but we were in the southern province of North Brabant so that may have changed our eating habits a bit. It would also change depending on if you were a farmer and working at home, or if you had a job or schooling out of the house. For us (going to school) breakfast was porridge or brown bread with cheese. Lunch was sandwiches (and we didn't get white bread), and the evening meal was soup (usually a clear vegetable soup or a clear chicken soup), followed by the main course of "vegetable-meat-potato" and no dessert most of the time. Vla (or custard) was a luxury we wouldn't often have. Farmers would have breakfast in the form of porridge or sandwiches, lunch would be the main meal of the day (a cooked meal resembling the evening meal I have described) and the evening meal would be bread with cheese and cold cuts. Mary Berry is absolutely right about our coffee consumption. And oh my goodness almost everyone smoked in the 1980's where I lived.

I love how prescriptive is for how the Dutch eat their meals. Evening meal at 6:30pm. No variation allowed. ;)

It does look yummy based on the ingredients, itself. No shortcut.
