This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat ru-vid.comUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!
You have the BEST instructional Instant Pot videos. Other videos call for spices that ive never heard of and ingredients that arent normally on hand. They make jokes or tell stories. I just want to know the How-To. You get to the point while being very friendly! And a big plus -- you tell us alternative items we can use. Thank you VERY much.
I just got an instant pot for my 59th birthday which was on Valentine's Day. I cook a lot because we had four children in six years and three of them are still at home. I also homeschool them. I don't know how I ever got along without it. I have been watching many videos on using the instant pot and I love yours. You are darling and so is your baby, and the little doggie I see in the background sometimes.
I just made the mashed potatoes in the Instant Pot. All I can say is WOW! Not only was it easy, it was incredibly delicious. I added some dill and used almond milk. This was also my 1st time ever making mashed potatoes (other than instant - which doesn't count). Thank you for the great idea and simple recipe instructions.
Just wanted to let you know that you are amazing on video. I tried to watch 3/4 other people but it was long and dragged out and not what I was looking for. I just purchased Pressure cooker (same as you) and was almost afraid to use it. I started watching your videos from beginning (putting it together) until now, incredible recipes. The 5 minute shortcut video was very helpful as well. You have a great speaking voice and I'm going to start using it now asap. Thx for your time.
What a great complement! Thank you so much. :) I try really hard to make the kind of videos that I would have liked to see when I was first starting with my IP. It's so great to hear when I succeed! Thanks so much for watching!
Finally! Someone that can do an instructional vid to help with everyday normal cooking in the pot., although over here we don’t have the same pots.. simple to do the same! 💖🌈🐻
Thank you! Yes, sometimes I feel like I need to try harder to make "professional" videos but then I realized that if I waited for time to do that my channel wouldn't exist... or it would only happen in 18 years when all the kiddos are out of the house! lol! I gotta make it real or not make it at all!
@@IndigoNili Don't try to make it "professional". Real life, I think, is what most of us LOVE about you, your family and your Channel. Speaking for myself, I absolutely adore the kids, dog, everything going on in your wonderful, sweet cozy home. I love your family. Keep it real! ;-)
One of the reasons for peeling white and red potatoes unless organic is because they are sprayed with pesticides AFTER they are harvested but sweet potatoes are not. So for me personally I would do the extra step of peeling the potatoes before cooking. Ruth and your baby girl on the floor are so cute, and loving the dog passing by too, what a great family. They are lucky to have a great cook like you to care for them.. I'm going to try your recipe as I have been doing new things in my IP around once a week. Thanks for your video.
i did it! i got the small pot, made a small pork tenderlion and mashed!!!! yum, came out perfect, i them seperate to get my bearings, following your recipe, nailed it!!!!
Nili You are an amazing mother!!!! How do I know? Because your child is encouraging you in the awsome job you are doing. She obviously learned that by your encouraging her.
Thank you for an awesome way to make mashed potatoes, simple and easy! I used a cup of garlic broth along with one cup of almond milk. Added some fresh minced garlic and dill and it tasted wonderful.
Yay! I tried your recipe today using my new Instant Pot Santa brought me for Christmas. The mashed potatoes turned out delicious. My family loved them. Thanks for sharing your recipe.
I have to say I love Ruthies "that's so awesome, you are doing a great job!" I am new to the instant pot but so far I have had a quite a few successful recipes thanks to those that are so willing to help.. Thank you Nili The only question that I have is when I have heard to only fill the pressure cooker 2/3rds these potatoes look to fill the pot. Should I have any concern with filling the pot? Thank you Nili for your great videos and extremely calm way of teaching while living life!
I made this tonight. I didn't peel them first. (I probably will in the future because they were too hot to peel.) I thought I would want to add other seasonings but they were delicious. Thank you & Merry Christmas (or Happy Holidays) to you and your family.
Can I use buttermilk instead? Thanks for the recipe! You and your daughter are so wonderful to watch:). Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, and everyone
You are very welcome:). I did try using the buttermilk earlier today, and made them in the Instant Pot, and they were so delicious! BTW I used regular buttermilk and not the low buttermilk. Tried making them on the stove top with the low fat buttermilk and no one liked them, so back to regular buttermilk it is. You and your lovely family will probably love it as buttermilk garlic mashed potatoes is a #1 favorite of all potato recipes, especially in my house. I hope you try it, and it is a big hit too with your family. Again Happy Safe Joyous Holidays, enjoy and savor every moment of time spent with loved ones and take plenty video's and photographs because I know from experience when we lose those we love we also lose not only their love and warmth, but also lose hearing their voice, seeing them display real emotion, smile, laugh, hug us, talk to us, and advise us. When they have departed through that invisible doorway to enter into a different realm, we feel lost, grieve and embark on the grief journey, and I know since I already lost all my entire immediate family, a husband, and other relatives, but from my immediate family, I am now the sole survivor. I miss all the time, but even more so during the Holiday Season when family, relatives and friends all gather and celebrate together. No fun being the only one left, but that is why I treasure all my video tapes I have made for so many decades, as well as radio recordings, and taking plenty of photographs. It is my way during each holiday and many times throughout the years to watch everything again and again, and it brings back such fabulous happy memories, and those memories are what I now have left to cherish, especially since they are all gone. So please make memories now, write letters to your loved ones they can read over and over again, just because you love them. Also please give your darling cute daughter a big old fashioned heart warming hug and kiss from me, and many thanks!
Thank goodness your recipe came out perfect. I just received an instant pot for Christmas. My first recipe was yogurt. I couldn't get the temperature to 180° and ended up making sour milk soup. I was so discouraged. Thanks
I love your videos. I’m gonna try this. I already had success with your boiled eggs recipe. With this potato recipe I’m adding chorizo for a little Tex-Mex favor. Cheers!
I flash freeze mashed potatoes into half cup 'pucks' on parchment paper then transfer into a gallon ziplock bag. My husband and I typically pass on the potatoes so these are the perfect serving size for my kiddos. I'll try doing them in my IP next time.
Thanks for this video. I’m planning to make all of my Christmas sides in my several crockpots and one in my instant pot. I’ll definitely be doing the potatoes this way 👍👍
I am trying potatoes in the pressure cooker for the first time tonight, however... When I cook mashed potatoes in a pot on the stove, I simply cut them in half or quarters for larger potatoes and put them in the boiling water for 25 to 30 minutes, when done, I drain them (no big deal really) and then let them cool slightly in the colander. Then like your "X"d potato, you can simply grab a corner of them and pull up and it almost always pulls the entire skin off the quartered potato. I used to have a mashed potato kitchen appliance, you simply quartered your potatoes, and added water to the machine. 60 or so minutes later and they were done, then the machine went to beating mode with it's internal blenders, then simply add water or milk and butter and salt and let it blend away till it's as smooth as you wish. Man, I really miss that machine, gave it away when I last moved to a new house to the local goodwill shop. Haven't been able to find a new one since. Guessing they are no longer made.
Thank you for all you work making these videos with all the details and hints that you include. I love hearing your kids in the background!! Miss those days :-) Do you think that there is a way of adding fresh garlic to these? Would I add it in when the potatoes are cooking? Also, is there a place where your recipes are written down? Thanks Nili!!!
2:22 To quote John Candy at the end of Plains, Trains, and Automobiles, "awwwwwww." So cute. And, wow, had no idea it was that easy to remove the skins.
I've seen some instant pot owners use "Better Than Bouillon" for chicken stock. As they only need to use 1 teaspoon with one cup of water. They say it saves money and is much more convenient.
I like the looks of your potato masher, where did you get it? Why do you like coconut milk in your potatoes? Nice video, and you have a very pleasant presentation.
That was thoroughly enjoyable. You mentioned at one point that you would add broth if you'd had it. Which kind of broth were you thinking of? Too, I've got to try scoring the potato to get the skin off. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much for this video. My Instant Pot should be arriving tomorrow!! Does the coconut milk give the potatoes a coconut flavor? I love mashed potatoes and can"t wait to try this method!
You got upstaged by two little charmers , one human and one canine lol..But no , thanks for showing us that trick it will make my excursions into the kitchen easier for sure ..One old boy very happy, thank you .
@@filida I was letting them cook a really. really. long. time. Seriously, I was pleased with the results, though I need to fiddle with the ratio a bit. No promises on results yet, but since I’m trying more lowcarb stuff right now, it might be a little while before I try again. :)
That's what I want to know. And as much as I love her videos, I seldom get any questions answered. I know she's busy with the little ones, but.....I'll keep searching. 👍🏼
Thanksgiving morning! First time attempting this. We used 2 cups of dairy milk and butter! FAIL! Oops! FOOD BURN code came up. Sure enough. Dairy is not supposed to go in the Instant Pot. We burned the milk in the bottom and spent a long time getting that cleaned up. After it was cleaned up, we put in water. Followed your directions, SANS DAIRY, the potatoes were great. We ended up draining the water and using our Kitchenaid with the potatoes and butter and dairy milk. They were perfect from there!
Oh no! I'm fairly certain that that the more recent instant pot models have changed a bit and are more sensitive to burning than the original. I expect they heat up faster (in order to come up to pressure faster) and that makes it more prone to scorching. I made this video 3 years ago with the first version of the DUO... I don't think I ever saw a burn message on that pot! Sorry for the Thanksgiving fail! So glad you were able to try again and Thanksgiving wasn't completely ruined! 😅❤️🦃
