Haven't seen the masking film before, great!

Thanks Millie, I think the paper also makes a difference. The paper has to be able to withstand the knife (although I'm super careful when cutting). I find Pastelmat the ideal surface for this technique and makes my job so easy. No halos!!!!!! You have to try it!!!

I haven't used pastelmat yet. Will get some, does it have tooth Chrissy?

Millie this paper would have to be the best pastel paper I've worked with . The texture is not gritty (a bit hard to explain, but I would say it's more smooth than rough) It can take many, many, many, did I say many? layers. Can take solvents and water. Comes in boards too.Erases well. I would also say this paper is very forgiving. I sound like a commercial!!! If you have some time you can view some of my other videos where I demonstrate my application on this paper in my projects .😀✏🖌🖍

Oh Krissy. Thanks so much for this. I am working on a very small child with dark brick colors around her and a brown door. Red seems to smudge badly so I am going to give it a shot. I have had frisket film for a while and have been nervous to use it. I had a bad experience with the liquid so please pray for me!!!

Hi Jennifer you are most welcome. Make sure your blade is super sharp. That way you won't need to put pressure on the blade. Perhaps do a practice on a scrap sheet 🤔 thanks for watching 😍

Wendi OBrien Yes well I'm melting from the heat. Rather the heat from the cold any day!

Xrissart agree. Heat better than cold. We supposed to get freezing rain and snow tomorrow...this is not typical weather for where we live. We usually get maybe a couple of freezes in the winter but nothing like this here. It’s just crazy this year. 🤦‍♀️ on the plus side. Good day to make art...but then again what day isn’t?

Bad about the cold. Yeah don't envy you at all. As for Art, I'm with ya on that one. As you say Wendi "Keep Arting!!!

Any tips on adding a mask on top of an already committed layer of pastel ? Let's say for example I have a field/countryscape and I leave a mask for a house. Ideally I want to place the house over the edge of the previous layer to avoid halos/fringing. I'd like to mask out the "underpainting" so that it doesn't get damaged. I'm new to this so maybe there's a technique for this already ?

Hi Godzilla, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I have tried masking on top of pastel work, I was successful but it was over a small area and haven't done it since. I feel it's hit and miss. I think if you can be careful with applying the masking film otherwise I probably wouldn't recommend it. Pastel on paper is such a delicate thing. Thank you for your question.

That is super masking film. You could use dies to cut out flourishes or basic shapes. Thanks for sharing this video 😁.

Does this work well on canvas or rough surfaces with pastels?
@Xrissart

Good question. I haven't tried it, but I suspect your canvas should have a tight weave. I know that masking tape works though. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂 🙏

Hi Barbara, I use all kinds of brushes, but usually synthetic watercolour and make-up brushes. I have plenty of videos here where on my channel where you see and hear me talk about them. Hope this helps. Happy painting 😀

I need to buy some masking film. I think it’s expensive here in the US. You have to buy a roll and it’s $30+.

Hi, would masking liquid work the same? What is best? I promise to start drawing soon. On holiday so hopefully can get time for a play x

Hey Sally, thank you for your question, haven't tried the masking fluid. I may have to experiment. My only concern would be when you try to remove it you may destroy some of the pastel work you've done. No harm in experimenting on a separate piece of paper, you just don't know what you may find. But just wanted to confirm I achieve the best results on Pastelmat this surface is terrific.

I am laughing,,,so easy. For larger areas to be covered do you experience air bubbles under film? Can you lay it over Pastels or CP without it lifting up pigment?
@Xrissart
@Xrissart 6 лет назад
Steve hopefully this has been helpful. Yes, so, so easy (no mysteries). No bubbles under with the one that I'm using. I used a drawing pencil in this demonstration and nothing lifted which was great. However, I think with Pastels the pigment may lift off, depending on the application. I would say colour pencil will not lift off which is cool.
@stevesmith92

Thank you so very much taking the time. I am shaking my head at how easy it is. I thought it would be a little more challenging than it was. I think you may be right about CP and Pastels.
