Wrex finds out later in the game and you lose krogan support as a result. You're also forced to kill him.. It's an objectively bad choice from all possible angles if Wrex is alive.
Robert Williams You took the time to correct the grammar in a year-old comment and you were still wrong. “I’d” is perfectly acceptable in that sentence.
@@chickenbouilloncube7038 That wasn't a correction, that was an incomplete comment about agreeing with him and a mistake I forgot to go back and delete. I wasn't criticising anyones grammar. What, you just hang around in the RU-vid comment section waiting to play the white knight for some commentor in distress? Try again. (-:
You can get it with paragon too, but wrex and eve still need to die, and paragon at max. It actually showed the paragon selection if you watch when he talks mordin out of it.
4:52 God this is so much more satisfying than Wreav just dying in the truck in the paragon play through. He's going to take all the credit for the cure, but eventually the truth will come out. His greed would ultimately cover up any involvement of Shepard or the Salarians sabotaging the cure!
Mordin cures Genophage and then dies while singing gilbert and sullivan. most memorable and sad moment in ENTIRE SERIES. fucking salarian.. anything less is unacceptable.
i mean nothing really stops us from curing the genophage after the war. Shepard probably said that just to stall and distract Mordin but it's not like krogans will die out tomorrow
This is such a fascinating scene that I give massive props to BioWare for putting in. You can basically pull a complete 180 on Mordin’s character development through very specific circumstances that most people would probably not even see. I respect that dedication.
Mordin is already my favorite character(even beyond Garrus and my waifu Tali), but hearing him shout "I MADE A MISTAKE!!!" About the cure. That. That hurt me.
I would assume the Salarian would get a lot of shit for not participating in the war effort if Shepard cures the genophage when Wrex and Eve are alive. Especially when they'll prove that Krogans are better than the Salarians ever thought of them.
Logan Wynn The support is stronger if Kirahe (don't remember his name correctly) survives and he too thinks the dalatrass is wrong. Politics shouldn't have too much pull in times of war.
So the only way to save Mordin is by making decisions that end in Wrex and Eve's deaths? And especially in Eve's case, a decision that didn't even seem like it could kill anyone. :/
Eve only dies if you didn't save the research from Mordin's former squadmate. As for Wrex, I don't explicitly remember any scenarios regarding this quest where he dies (unless you sabotage the cure, he finds out, and you shoot him).
While nobody wants to see Mordin die, it’s a pretty evil and selfish thing to deny Mordin his redemption and allow the genophage to keep affecting the Krogan. This is what Mordin wanted, this is what Wrex needs, and I think it’s a good thing that this goes through unless you make renegade and selfish choices. It had to be Mordin, somebody else might’ve gotten it wrong.
I remember in my renegade play through putting a gun to his head... Bit I couldn't pull the trigger. The rest of the playthrough became paragon. My Shepard was a changed man.
I felt horrible after shooting him, watching him trying to drag his bleeding body across the floor to the terminal and dieing before he could fix the problem. Then again I had to kill Wrex afterwards when he found out. And I killed Ashley. And I let the counsel die. And I drove Tali to suicide. ... Am I a bad person? Says the renegade.
I don’t think my Shepard would be able to handle that kind of change. My Shepard may be a spacer kid that treats the crew she had and has at the moment as family but she was also the butcher of Torfan, meaning I spared Mordin at the last minute and raised hell even more afterwards in memory of Mordin, basically the crew and admirals were the only ones receiving paragon replies.
I got this ending in my first Renegade playthrough and I was fckng flinching at the thought of murdering Mordin, but then the charm/intimidate option came up and I was like ‘Well yes please’.
So the only way for Mordin to survive is to sabotage the cure? And select the appropriate choices? In other words, a successful cure means Mordin dies... Damn it, this game and its feels!
Good thing Wreav died on my playthrough. The Krogan future is safe with Eve + Wrex, and my adopted krogan child Grunt being next in line for succession
You know what option is actually the best for your army? 1. Saving Wrex in ME1, keeping Mealons data and heal the genophage (full paragon option) is worth 755 points. You get the urdnot clan, the other clans, wrex, some krogan mercenaries and krogan soldiers. 2. Saving Wrex in ME1, keeping Mealons data but betray Wrex and kill Mordin (very renegade option) is worth only 575 points. You will get the salarian fleet but you lose Wrex and his clan when he notices what you have done. You even have to kill Wrex. 3. Saving Wrex in ME1, destroying Mealons data and heal the genophage is worth 705 points. The krogan clans are weaker if Eve dies and she only survives if you have Mealons data. So if you want to help the krogans, just keep the data in ME2. 4. Saving Wrex in ME1, destroying Mealons data and betray Wrex and Mordin is by far the worst option. You will get only 525 points. 5. Killing Wrex in ME1, keeping Mealons data and heal the genophage is worth 675 points. Wreav is weaker than Wrex and you don't get the krogan mercenaries. 6. Killing Wrex in ME1, keeping Mealons data but betray Wreav and kill Mordin (very renegade option) is worth 825 points. So for your army this is actually the best option but you have to kill two of your friends for that. 7. Killing Wrex in ME1, destroying Mealons data and heal the genophage is worth 625 points. Not only this isn't much strenght for your army but you also can expect that the galaxy will have a new war with the krogans after the war with the reapers, especially if you pick the red ending for ME3. 8. Killing Wrex in ME1, destroying Mealons data and betray Wreav is worth 800 points. It's also the only way to keep Mordin alive. Is it worth it? Mordin is an awesome character but he is very old for a salarian. He will die in a few months or maybe years after this war anyway. While the krogans will extinct in the future. Maybe the green ending can save them but Shepard can't see the future so it's still morally wrong.
On my playthrough I always save Wrex and cured the genophage. I can't sabotage the cure if Wrex is alive, the price you paid is too high, morally wrong and just not worth it in the end as you will lose krogan support if you betrayed Wrex. But I did (once) sabotage the cure when Wreav is in charge. Unlike Wrex, Wreav is a total d-bag the only thing he cared about is revenge.
who cares about eve it's just a hard choice between wrex and mordin but mordin has a few years to live anyway and he dies as a hero but wrex I have to kill him either in virmire or in the citadel and that's the only reason I let mordin die but if there was a way to trick wrex and save mordin I would do it without hesitation
+Atom Divider well if you have to choose between wrex and mordin it's a tough decision, but if it is between wreav and mordin with eve dead well... let's say krogans can futfill their purpose and then die before becoming a new threat
+Atom Divider You're not letting Wreav wreck havoc though. If you play the game right - don't cure the genophage, destroy Maelon's data, don't stop the Turian bomb on Tuchanka, don't do any side quests that may aid the Krogan like that fossil one, then the Krogans will be in a very poor state after the war. There were probably millions of Krogan during the war and through this playthrough, they'll be reduced to a few hundred thousand. Wreav won't be able to wreck havoc with those numbers.
Funny to see he mentions the scaffolding on the main delivery mechanism, when you think about it it doesn’t make much sense to have it there but they sorta acknowledge it.
As for me ME 3 has very epic story, like actually curing genofage was somthing like "Time to do the right thing", or resolving Geth war with Quarrians (all alive) and all the time i felt like solving stupid alien mistakes that only one man can solve, i loved being that man.
If only I could just sacrifice someone else on the team. Like Kaiden. Or Ashley. Whatever redundancy I left alive. Or Jacob, good lord. Or that macho half-wit on the floor with Steve.
I find it funny that the renegade choice has a lot of time to convince Mordin to betray the krogan and disperse the "cure" while the paragon path, it wasn't even a minute before Mordin hits the bucket.
It has been years but it feels so great to find you sharing my thoughts on Mordin among these comments. Everyone else are so fatalistic while I’m being all “yay Mordin lives!” :D
Him singing Scientist Salarian as he goes down in flames fucking destroys me every single time. My wet ass eyes are a stark contrast to the burning shroud.
Makes me glad that, when I lost Wrex on Virmire because I wasn't yet persuasive enough, I restarted at an earlier save point and made sure I could save him.
I've never been in the position to get this kind of resolution, I always spare Wrex to lead Urdnot and keep Maelen's data for the cure. However, with Wreav at the head of the Krogan with no one to keep him in check I can't help but fully agree with this course action.
I've played the trilogy atleast 10 times now. I've decided 4-5 times that I'm going for a renegade playthrough but I never have the heart to do it. I always end up with max paragon and cry everytime I see my old friend Mordin die in that tower just ao he can give hope for the krogans.
Even with Wrex and Eve, you still can't count on the krogan one day not trying to take over. All you have to do is listen to the shit they would say amongst themselves to know one day enough of them would try something. Grudges can last for generations.
When Mordin Screams "I MADE A MISTAKE!" You can hear the hatred in his voice, the pain. He knew the entire time that the genophage was a necessary evil, but he never truly forgave himself for making it. He hates himself for what he had done. And he knows destroying Malins data cost Eve her life. He wants to make things right. And do right by his friends. If not for the war he would have gone up there and I honestly don't think anyone could have stopped him. Best character.
So I did this but wrex and Eve were alive and I was just trying to save mordin from dying then wrex attacked me the very next visit to the citadel and I lost all Krogan support save for grunt. But the salarian support I gained didn't compare to the Krogan support so I deleted the playthrough and restarted it.
I played ME so many times, but still killing Mordin hurts the most. Hes such a unique lovely character. 9/10 plays i let him go and ignore the salarian offer.
