Older video but thanks for posting it. I have a 230 and its grinding when I try to use the PTO. I have to go as low RPM as possible. Also when I try to take out of PTO it grinds too and I have to shut the tractor off to get it to stop spinning. I am hoping its just an adjustment. I am going to pull the inspection plate and see. My Ford 3000 did the same thing and I had to split it and replace clutches and while I was in there I noticed the ring gear was cracked too. So this will be my 2nd clutch job.

You might want to check out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fRyKBmVo6J4.html for adjusting the PTO stage on your clutch. It's not quite the same pressure plate but similar and will help you to find where to adjust. Yours is also supposed to be set at 080-.090 inches. Thanks for watching!

So I do need to remove the 3 bolts on my pressure plate after installing I’m doing the repair on my 230 with ad3-152 Perkins the 3 bolts was in when I took it apart so I’m wondering if who ever owned it before me didn’t do it right great video by the way very informative
@CanadianRedneck15

The 3 bolts in the pressure plate hold it together enough to get the bolts started that hold it to the pressure plate, once you get it bolted down they come out. Thanks for watching!

Excellent video. I am working on a 165 massy today that sounds like the same issue as your tractor. Pulled the bottom inspection plate off and burnt smell right away. The owner had been mowing and hit something that stopped the mower. ( had a Gr 8 bolt instead of a proper shear pin). Then after the pto didn’t work. It would spin but had no power, same as the loader, it would move, but no power at all. I got the pressure plate out and it looks like the pin that holds the arms has a small pin through the end of it. Not enough room to knock it through the other side. So do you just pound the pin through and shear the little pin off? Anyway thanks for the video.
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 Год назад
If you drive the lever pivot pin out breaking the retaining pin you are going to have a hard time getting the broken bits out, can you get a bite on the retaining pin with some side cutters or something like that to pull them out? Thanks for watching!
@1waukesha
@1waukesha Год назад
Hey I read my manual a little bit more carefully. What you do it tap the little retainer pin down. And as you do, you let the pressure plate come up. You can get them knocked down far enough to be able to pull the pins. Then once its completely apart you can knock the little retainer pins all the way out. Once again thanks for sharing your videos.

Yes I want to thank you for the video we got the clutch back in the tractor now my front axle has alot of play in it. Are there bushings that I need to buy and put them in the axle so it will fix the plat issue it's a 1981 mg 230
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 4 года назад
There are 2 bushings in the axle support, it appears like the pin pivots with the axle and moves in the support from the parts picture. You can find the parts books online at www.agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/login.aspx?region=NorthAmerica scroll down the page and login as guest to find you part lists. Thanks for watching.

Hi from Italy, very interesting video. Is that a LUK 11" clutch? does it comes with the alignmento tool included? As far as I see you cannot use te trans shaft here to center the clutch as you did on MF 165.. right? thasnk for answering
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 5 лет назад
It was not a LUK clutch it was US made, I don't remember the brand but it did come with the alignment tool. You should be able to get a kt with the tool or get the tool separately from a supplier local to you. I am glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!

Great video, thanks. If you have a BMC niffield 4/65 at hand could you show how do service the clutch w/o splitting the tractor? Ours has had a half submerged clutch as its been sitting in the rain for ages before we got it. Housing is drained but the clutch is seized tight. Cheers mate.

I am sorry but there are almost no BMC tractors around here, I've never seen one, I don't think there was an importer for them.
@CanadianRedneck15

Just drain it well, maybe flush it through with some diesel and fill with fresh oil. Keep an eye on it, it the oil looks contaminated again, drain and repeat.
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
I don't think it would be a good idea to run it through the pump, it wouldn't lubricate very well.

We have a MF 188, everytime i engage a gear there is a little bit of grinding going on. Could this be a clutch plate failing sign? Are they stage two? There is a PTO lever underneath the seat, could this mean they have Independant PTO.?
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 4 года назад
If you have to depress the clutch pedal to engage the PTO it is a 2 stage clutch. The grinding depends on the situation, could be the clutch needs adjusted or replaced or it could be normal. Thanks for watching!

I'm in west central Minnesota I need you to do my MF 30E with a loader. Not enough pressure from the springs so it let's the clutch slip. I'm 72 don't know if I should tackle it myself.
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 5 лет назад
It's a bit of a travel for me. :) It's not a difficult job if you have the tools and lifts to work with. You will have to remove the loader to split the tractor. If you are reasonably mechanically inclined and have the stuff to work with I'm sure you would not have any problem. Thanks for watching!

@donvoll2580 6 лет назад
Good day What would cause that, normally the front clutch would go. Yea what would a repair cost. Thanks
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
It was probably the original clutch, it may have gotten some oil on it or just had done a lot of heavy PTO work that wore it out. The tractor may have had the transmission disk replaced before as well but not the rest of the parts, it's hard to say after 40 years. :) Thanks for watching!

Working on a MF165 trying to knock the king pin out. Is there a snap ring or should the king ping drive through the axle? I put the tire back on the hub but when I turn it left or right it will not budge. I was having issues with steering and now I understand why! I did head up the housing until grease squirted out all over but man.. I must be doing something wrong!
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 6 лет назад
You have to knock the steering arm off the top and take out the woodruff key first thing, then the spindle should drive down through the axle knee. They can be a real bear sometimes because of wear and rust. Good luck and thanks for watching.

I did a clutch similar to that Massey, on my Tafe 35di, it said the inner pressure plate needed to be set at .080 and the pressure plate arms being adjusted to all 3 be equal and the manual said a special tool was needed, I improvised. . Did you check these measurements off film or were they preset from the supplier? Check my video out, I just posted. It had been in my computer for the last 6 months and just got around to edit it and post it. What's ya'lls labor rate at up there, here they wanted 1400 labor to do it here, so I did it my self. My loader had 2 bolts and a few quick hose couplings to get the loader off. Keep up the great videos.
@CanadianRedneck15
@CanadianRedneck15 5 лет назад
My understanding is that the Tafe tractor was a licensed copy of the MF 35, they also used a Perkins engine, yes? The new clutches come preset but I visually check, if anything looks off I do the measurements then. The dealerships charge $100+ per hour, I am not a licensed shop so charge much less than that. I figure on 4-6 hours without a loader. Feel free to link your video in the comments here. Thanks for watching!
