Massey Ferguson 4220 Ride-on Mower Review and Service

My 4220 Husqvarna is identical, right down to the cutting deck. 10 years old now, great motor but weak deck and have just had the deck welded up. I agree with all aspects of your review.

I bought a Deere, I weighed up all the good and bad points of all the name brand lawn tractors that are available near me and the wife approved the expenditure as long as I got the nice green coloured one with the yellow wheels (they look like a proper tractor). It has a few features that have me scratching my head, like the button to push so you can reverse with the blades going. Surely its a distraction from looking where you want to go while fumbling around for a small button? The oil drain that is specially placed to rust proof the front wheel pivot and chassis rail, while completely missing the drain pan. Don't get me started on the sealed for life transmission. I tried the beer and mowing thing, but was nearly sick as my yard is a bit lumpy and I therefore don't recommend drinking beer and then shaking it. The cup holder is now reserved for secateurs and collecting dog balls 8-0. For me dealer support was also a big factor, my dad had a Husqvarna that was good, but parts availability was a bit hit and miss (3 months for a starter motor). With the JD I order parts from their online catalogue and if they aren't in stock, then they are in store within days.

I was going to look at a MF zero turn but seeing this review has got me thinking. Did you consider a zero turn, and if so, what made you go with your machine? Thanks again.

Review is spot on I’ve got the same machine same pros and cons it’s a good mower and would happily buy another or would I get a zero turn…
