I think a great addition to the data sheet would be an identifier for the physical storage location.

I don't have the largest of armies, but I keep an excel spreadsheet with all my 3 armies' units, other plastic models and scenery. I also note if it is built and painted and the points cost. It really helped me clear my mind and clean my room. Now everytime I get something or finish a mini, I quickly note it. Currently my 3 armies stand at around 70% painted

I like you’re reasons for liking the black templars, I chose the crimson fists for my first army for the opposite reasons. I felt like they were one of the few imperium groups that really cares about their fellow mortal humans and keep a level sound mind rather than falling to fury.

only recently started watching your videos, Ive been playing Warhammer since 2012 and now only recently began getting back into it and painting all my armies and pile or shame. watching youre videos have gave me the motivation to paint again and try and improve my painting. i think im round about table top level with some certain models being higher quality. I also started with necrons, bought way more than i could handle, ish happens, now im literally in the middle of re-organizing everything and found this video. Sometimes the universes synergies just cant be ignored.

3 suggestions I use: 1) I p-touch a label onto the bottom of the bases of each model w/ an ID # I have in the spreadsheet I use as a list. 2) I also make a note of the paints used. I learned this the hard way when I went back to touch up a model I painted years prior and could not match the 'nid color. 3) I usually ring the sides of the bases in different colors, to quickly ID squads.

My plan for comming up soon is to create cards I can use for each model in my kill teams so that I can have all the stats and abilities of each dude ready and on hand for a game. Since each team is basically around 20 men it shouldn't be hard.

I like your way of thinking about your army as a time capsule of how you improved as a painter and preservation of the memories behind each unit. I usually have a hard time accepting that a force is not painted to the same standard, maybe I should try to think about it that way!

I thought the templars were crusaders, mostly still convinced they're going to cleanse they universe one day when Dorn comes back. Your monastic description of castles, candles, prayer etc is more befitting the Dark Angels.

I know a lot of people keep stuff in Battlescribe but I kind of like your idea better, Jay. I'm a fan of physical copies of things and seeing stuff organized in a binder is very satisfying. I still have all my X-Wing cards organized in sleeves in a binder and I have a few binders full of MTG card sets. I may start doing this for my 40K armies as well!

I too have a habit of mislaying magnetised parts. I started using a spare base with magnetised receiving 'nubs' made from plastic rod to house the parts stored with the appropriate minis. As a result I have reduced losses to nil this year.

I actually don't play but collected a Space Marine army based on its organization: an entire company with transport. Each squad was configured to their roles, so no magnets. The paint job is far from perfect, but, hey, it's a fully painted company! Organized them in 3 foam cases. That they're collected based on the organization makes it easy to organize. I actually picked the same symbol as Black Templar and made them the Imperial Fist's successor chapter also. When they are not in cases, I use squad trays to organize them.

I organize in 2 ways. 1st I created an army in battlescribe that has 3 battalions.... spruewing, builtwing, complete wing. (Can you tell im a DA player?) Secondly, for minis, I've created my mini bins. 12x12 steel plates bolted to the bottom of some plastic bins. While I'm building I glue a magnet (5 or 6mm x 2mm is perfect) to the bottom of the base and then just keep them all in those. (I have 4" and 6" deep bins for infantry and bigguns) Also, sort of organizationally, I paint 2 models (or units) for every one I build, and build 2 for everyone I buy.... so 4 painted, 2 built, 1 purchase. Keeps costs down and EVENTUALLY ill be rid of my grey shame. Also I dont rescue my own models while I still have stuff unpainted. Eventually ill decide on my army's paint scheme and once everything is painted ill go back and correct/update the outliers. But until then why "undo" a painted model?

That's an interesting idea documenting your army that way. For the last 10 odd years I've been getting my army out and taking a photo of it around March/April so I could see how much it has grown and the painting progress. Id scribble down what needed to be finished and touched up but I like your system more (as my scribbled on paper would get lost etc).

I’m the perfect candidate for magnets because I have a dedicated cabinet for my army so I keep a weapons depot of sorts in the back for all of the weapon options.

I have a small plastic tackle box that I keep my magnet weapons in, along with objective markers and other small random hobby bits. I'd recommend it!

I'm completely past magnetization. I might still do it for big models like Dreadnoughts and Knights, but I've lost all the weapon options for my Leman Russ tanks, and I always ran the same turret options anyway

You've just explained most all gamer minds akin to steam sales, we all have backlogs of video games that we got on sale and never even installed, I'm setting out to build my first Space Marine Chapter, I'm not 100% on who I've chosen yet, I'm thinking Ultramarine successor who I'll play at the table as an Ultramarine company, however, I'm all about the lore behind the screen, I'm big into D&D so I love RP, I've decided my Chapter is The New Sons

So... now that you have documented everything, you need to organize storage to find the model belonging to your data sheet. :D Since I know that you are cheap on hobby stuff that is not minis themselves, I recommend Ikea's KVISSLE as storage containers. You can number the box & tray for easy searchability.

I have been collecting CSM since 2005 and just last week kinda finished painting my first squad. there is SOME paint on quite a few minis but only single ones that i considered done. now my old school pewter plague marines have become the bringers of decay and i love them. currently painting my bikers, which are some of the first minis i ever bought. some friends started playing and painting and they have completely painted 2k points armies because of the lockdown. i am now sufficiently motivated to paint my ass off so i can have painted minis on the table once they visit me with their armies. i have not gone through the trouble of counting the points since my big 4th edition apocalypse game (back then they were about 15k points with a scratch built plague tower and scratch built warhound AND scratch built thunderhawk, but most of those models have gone broken or missing over the years) but my best guess would be around 7-8k worth of little guys and tanks. mostly marines, which suck nowadays, but whatever. i love my mini dudes in armor. :-D black legion for ever!

I like the worksheet you made! I started using a Google Sheet myself where I made sheet interdependencies where it'll track my model "inventory" but also fill in to a list builder automatically with drop-downs and Vlookups.

My white dwarf magazines start at 107. My biggest army is my chaos at around 40k points. I have sisters and astra millatarum armies as well.

To store my magnetised bits I use 15cm metal rulers to keep them organised.

I suspect I'll end up doing similar, but keeping it digital for space constraints.

I have 7300 points of ba with another 520 points due in a month or two. Most of it unpainted or unassembled (1430 points are painted) Painting isn't my favourite so I focused on building but soon I'll focus on painting.

I can probably stretch out 11k depending how models are run (assault/vanvets),land raider upgrades

LoL I was just looking into this! fellow "Goldfish Brain" I wanted to display my beauties and have them ready to go too!! found this laser cutter on etsy called "LevelInfinity" haven't taken the plunge but I love the display the stackability and the customizablity.

I use a simple Excel sheet to have an overview of my biggest army. But I only included the kind of unit and the weapons

I use Battlescribe to organise, one list has the army list for 2K points and the second "EX" list has the models that weren't included. It's not ideal as sometimes Battlescribe declares the list void and I lose everything.

I have been playing since 1990 started with a small orb and a few space marines but today I have most of my dark angels chapter my hq/special characters other then a few newer chaplains librarians and Primeros characters, more then a full deathwing company 125 terminator and soon 15 blade guards when finished, more then a full ravenwings company 60 bikes 15 attack bikes, 20 different land speeders 8 fighter planes still have 1 ravine wing box set sealed to build plus 20 outriders, the next 4 companies 106 space marines plus teachmarines librarians and chaplains all 10 man squads hq squad 10 rhinos and 1 razor back, my 10th company 8 5 man sniper scouts 1 10 man 2 3 man scout bike squads, I have 19 different dreadnoughts, 7 different land raiders, 8 whirlwind, 8 predators, 4 vindicator, I have enough to build and paint my 7th and 8th sets all 10 man sets and almost all of my 9th company just short 2 10 man fast attack squads and hq squad and 3 knights and a number of other vehicles still in boxes, most of my army is old school charters don’t have a lot of the primeros marines mostly going to be in my last 3 companies I haven’t been able to get my hands on a new codex between bills surgery and the lack of finding the books I don’t have an updated point cost but the old one before I added a few new units I was at 73,000 points who knows what it would be till I can finally get my hands on 1, 31 years of hard work getting them done and still going I say it’s been a good time working on them and playing but my wife asks why same with a few family members I say why not it’s fun and it used to be cheaper then my anime collection

I just put everything into a battlesribe list. Whole army
