Wow! Another fabulous interview! Its anazing that Allan has had so many different jobs and careers and none of them screamed master faceter! And was interested enough to self teach and try to work his classes around his job! But he did it and the way he brought himself up through this field is amazing! Since he couldnt afford the tools or machines he needed, he just built his own! He is amazing! He is so smart and ingenius in the way that he has figured out what he needed and how was he going to manufacture it! I love the concave facets! That is amazing! He is just a fascinating man! What a great interview! And through his sharing his knowledge and creating the tools and products that the faceter needs to succeed! Thank you patrick for this, even someone like me that doesnt facet, can appreciate what Allan has done for the occupation of gem cutting! Wonderful video and fabulous interview!

1:58:49 Very informative video! How do they attach a mirror effect on the bottom of the stone so that it shines more? Or do real diamonds not need this?

In a traditional stone, light bounces around because of the polished facets cut at precise angles. The concave facets change the game by adding surface area and new angles for light to be scattered, creating new, unique pathways. At least, that's my understanding.

Seemed sensible until he got to the long-discredited Bielby flow theory of polish and then tweaking pH, lol.
