"large, massive nation states not as worth it as they first appear" as someone who combined Asia, Africa and the middle East into the Caliphate and developed it to the point it was making 30K+ science a month, I respectfully disagree.

I got really frustated with being, able to build a good economy, holding all of mars, but constantly switching between being at total war with the aliens and switching high-earth laboratories off just for the aliens to chill after blowing up yet another of my mars mining complexes, this video encourages me to come back to this great game.

Hey you're doing better than me. I'm getting all my research sniped, and somehow despite completely dominating orgs and holding good countries, I somehow have like 1/10th the boost as most of the other AI. So frustrating getting wrecked over and over and not knowing what I'm doing wrong lol.

I disagree about not fighting aliens early in the game, getting kills on early agents slows them down immensely and destroying their mission destroyers helps slow down their abduction economy immensely. Also, getting access to their tech is incredible strong. Also, you should be propping up factions that share similar ideology to your own factions because which allows for more targets for the aliens to attack. One particular situation I did was removing the servants from India by imprisoning counselors by stripping them of their admin orgs, then proceeding to chain assassinating them until they were they were constantly over CP cap, which killed their influence. Once they influence was in the negative, their Command Points were highly susceptible to being taken over, only for me to abandon india for a less alien sympathetic faction to take over. I also gave those additional admin orgs I couldn't use to the resistance and humanity first. Keeping other anti-alien factions healthy keeps the aliens off your back. Also, harassing servants and protectorate early and hard will slow their progress to alien language, which makes it so that you generate more alien hate for attacking them. Take advantage of early game aggression before the aliens and their servants become harder to oppose.

1) The important thing to realize is that the space game influences the earth game, and the earth game influences the space game. A very early example of this is orbitals above earth in low/interface orbit. Social Science labs each give +1 strength to your popular opinion missions, and you can stack that up to +9. Having 2 or 3 low earth orbit labs with social labs will give you 2-3 councillors worth of efficiency in spreading popular opinion, which not only factors in to how easy nations are to control, but also affects how much influence you generate. 2) conversely, using solar anywhere other than mercury is a big no-no. What makes habs and orbitals so useful is the things you can mount on them, and there are a limited number you can put in low orbit. You need to maximize space, so going to heavy fission and fusion as soon as they are available is *extremely* important. They cost more, but they will also drive your research and development exponentially faster by getting more slots for useful stuff. You solve the problem of resource drain by developing resource sources - Orbital Hospitals, Manufacturing, and selling orbital resources once you've researched resource market boosting projects 3) Generally yes 4) The game has a very navigable tech tree, you need to use it (keyword searches full tech tree, right clicking techs to see the tech path). You can't just research for research's sake because there isn't enough science in early/mid game for everything - actually plan out your tech path. 5) Bribe any and every faction at any and every opportunity. You need to manage alien hate - their hate is a resource to manage just like everything else. So if hate is really low you can take opportunities, but need to be mindful. 6) Welding nations together is a midgame goal. Other than the European Union, you won't be unifying nations in the early game. 7) Yes. You get a notification for the arrival of the first invasion fleets. If your troops are present when they land the aliens land at 1/2 strength. Nukes can be used in these instances if needed. When the alien ship arrives in orbit, it will sometimes show the location it will be landing troops in before the invasion actually starts. 8) Missiles are a bit of a trap. They are good very early, as the game goes on you'll face larger fleets with more point defense and they can eat your missiles for lunch. 9) Never sell base metals or rare metals. You will almost always run low on either of them, and early sales will 100% kill you later on. Fissiles are a very good source to sell for $$. Try not to sell any resources until 2 or more space resource projects have been researched. Put farms everywhere to cover water and volatile usage.

On 5) I’ve recently decided that playing friendly with other factions is (sadly) a waste of time. They do nothing for you (even HF twiddle their red thumbs when the aliens land) and hate you in the end regardless. By now I deal with them by playing defensively (go underground regularly) and slowly crushing their opposition.
@lord6617

@@debott4538 I think it really comes down to how much you are willing to invest in diplomacy. I tried playing nice my last go, and far advanced in the game with massive space and earth control, the only factions at war with me was initiative and servants. But I was aggressively hunting down councillors all the time... to improve relations. I think I assassinated 1 councillor other than the servants all game. I was constantly giving HF and Resistance 100 ops presents to go do good work with. The main thing is to keep them off YOUR back. I don't know how many times I saw resistance or humanity first pulling off successful coups on servants... but it was a lot.

Great video with very clear and reasonable tips. 1) This is true. TI is just so large that a lot of players feel more comfortable to "package" it into separate pieces. This categorization holds up to a degree, however you must first get a hold in one game (Earth) in order to get into the other (space, where all the cool kids hang out these days). 2) This is interesting, especially since just now, in my current game, I'm switching out all my solars for fusion. More expensive, yes, but also double the output, and with limited MC, this is better in my book. The tip is very reasonable though, I shall re-evaluate my strategy. 3) Good tip, but role players should know all about that. ;) 4) Yes, this is true, but in the end, you'll need almost all science project anyways. There really isn't any "bad science", is there? Finding your way through the tech tree is real pro-level play, either way. In fact, I'm of the opinion that it needs to be either curtailed or at least re-organized. 5) Why would you ever fight the aliens at all!? Aren't they here to absolve us? 6) Good tip, but this is basically all Kasakhstan. CAU preferrable but not needed, I think. 7) But... but the Aliens are our... f.r.i.e.n.d.s 8) Yes, in fact, missiles are so good, I fully expect them to be nerved sooner or later. Or PD being buffed somehow. 9) TI boils down to a war of attrition in the long run, so 100% yes. So you beat the game then? Are you planning on another campaign, maybe once a new update/scenario is released?

TBH the part you describe of being stuck as a beached whale not realising it is caused by bad game design. There should either be a mechanic that punishes you permanently, but does give you a way out, or there should be a mechanic that just tells you "sorry bud, the aliens win this time" when you cant win any longer.

I believe this game really needs a fleet movement rework, maybe something like Nebulous - Fleet Commands. Currently it is horrendous.

it should be noted that the primary reason for mega nations is pretty much to consolidate CP if you want to control europe it is going to be very costly CP wise and take alot of effort to keep each nation under your control than if you bundle them up into the EU acendant. in a simmilar vein, yes the african union is hella strong for research but its core use for me is to deny the aliens of their favorite landing spots. it also forces the other factions to focus their infighting on other parts of the world rather than being complacent with their own chunks (i once had the servants down to 100CP used)

Thank you for the video. I’ve played and beaten as the servants but obviously didn’t have to worry about space much. It was good to hear the things I learned from the first play through confirmed and other tips that’ll help my next run as the resistance and actually needing to rely on space and ships more. One question, is there a major benefit/deficit in making friends/enemies with the other factions? I know some are supposed to jive better with others but I went after everyone my first run. If I wanted a place I went for it. Thank you and awesome video.

1. Obvious. Just don't overdo space research early on.... Keep an eye on LEO bonuses. 2. Not recommended after early game (although I sometimes skip larger fission generators). Fusion is just the best - especially on rings. 3. Obvious. Just max admin ASAP, and attach as many orgs as you can (avoid obvious traps like CIA, etc). Step 1 - specialists, Step 2 - invest into sec a bit, step 3 - boost all CP stats. Try not to neglect science stat (tech roll, and some protection against aliens actions on Earth) 4. Jesus... Pick goals (like Fusion in Space, coilguns, megastates, high end fusion engines, etc, and move there). Why would you research independence movements and fall of empires for example if you don't plant to split larger countries? Check which engines you want and adjust your research accordingly (Fusion branches are expensive). Why would you use particle weapon branch to prove your point is beyond me - that weapon is subpar at best. 5. You have to really balance this out... You can't just leave alien running inside your countries, as soon he will get bunch of control points enthralled... Some stations would be sacrificed, there is even strategy of "venting alien anger" on your stations... Especially LEO would be attacked and contested. Defend terrestrial mining stations, research lasers , provide at least minimal protection to your bases (LDAs). You HAVE to down alien ship, you also have to kill one Alien and "arrest" other one to progress the story... 6. WHAT?! Kazakhstan is great at the start - during early land grab rush. Then boost fall out of favor, and you are better off uniting it with Russia and then EU.... What you need are stable (YES), democratic, POPULOUS countries with great education. They give a lot of science for free. North American Union is for completionists, Academy, etc, etc. US is just a gigantic muscle which will protect you from Alien Landings (unless you plan to nuke aliens). Do EU (MC and research), Great China (Research), Great India (everything but slightly less), Caliphate (POWER!!!). Ideally at the end of the game you should have few superstates and AI factions fighting to control Suriname. 7. Yes, Also Alien armies are weak after disembarking. Also destroying AA gives you tons of Alien hate, whereas "honorable" land conflict does not. 8. Early game advice (good one, just remember it's early game). Rails are your first GF, coils are lover, plasma is wife, lasers .... Therapist? 9. I can't emphasize enough that boost is early game resource. You just can't supplement space resources with it as game takes actual distance from Earth into account. So building/rearming/fixing ships with boost takes years. Water and volatiles are important, but you should progress space farming research to reduce their consumption to 0 or close to that. Water if literally fuel for your navies, so make sure you produce a lot of it.

When it comes to the AA, one of the easiest sources of [ spoiler ] is taking out their structures with a 25 CMD councillor (38%) backed by heaps of ops to raise the odds to 99%... each structures nets about as much as a decent-sized alien fleet, without risking a single vessel.

The alien agent one kinda had to take out 2 of them because they kept taking over control points. It meant I lost my first mining base but early enough all I had to do was rebuild it. On a brighter side the second one had just built a facility that was immediately destroyed so free alien tech almost right out the gate.

Last played this game in December 2022. Have about 310 hours, 36/91 Achievements. I do not remember exactly why I stopped playing and uninstalled, though I do remember things about the game I found to be bad design decisions: 1. Mining on Mars being in anyway preferable to mining on asteroids 2. The Climate change params 3. The way nukes function = very pooly informed 4. Ground combat in general, only slightly better than Risk 5. Fleet combat: always the same form of engagement: two sides coming straight at each other. 6. Pretty clunky UI in the fleet combat. Been feeling the itch to play it again, and maybe finish an entire campaign this time. Previously, I had one or two "test runs" where I just played to figure things out (probably about 50 hours), then one "serious run" where I tried to get to a stage where I was clearly at that inevitable point in strategy games where winning is more or less a foregone conclusion and there is nothing left but the tedium of playing whack a mole on the brain dead computer opponents. I never actually made it to that stage with this game, which is why, in part I'm intrigued about reinstalling it. I had a HD die right around Dec 2022 and it may be that I simply did not reinstall in my new rig in early 2023. I see they now have officers represented on space craft which is cool. Any notable changes to any of the other dimensions I list? Even if not, any notable mods that improve/enhance those dimensions?

11:00 frick you I will unite South America no matter the cost! the South American union shall rise! 17:12 I will say I prioritized fissiles, and because they're so rare I can now sell them to the other factions for a large profit (I have a near monopoly on them lol) and use that as a good way to stay above board in everything

SOUTH AMERICA RULES now go get strategic deception, maskirovka and whatever the other tech is called that let you have more stuff in space before the aliens blow you up and conquer the inner planets plus mars, you will have a decent eonomy so long as you remember to use agricultural complexes to ofset the carbon and water expenses, then the real limiting factor is just iron and gold

I would disagree with some of your tips. Laying low is not the best option, you can fight then right from the start. Volatiles and water are not a problem when you got agriculture complexes. Base metals are most important. Check out my playthrough to see how easy the game is on brutal difficulty. Oh, and overwhelming them with missiles is easy even with a few fast escorts with viper or lancehead missiles even in late game.
