During his 24-year tenure at the FBI, Chris Voss developed a set of negotiation skills that apply as aptly to everyday life as they did in high-stakes national and international crime. He rose to become the bureau’s lead hostage negotiator, handling more than 150 international cases, and now he’s CEO and founder of the Black Swan Group, where he and his team train individuals and executives to be effective negotiators.
Learn more about Chris’s MasterClass at mstr.cl/2UhSyDE
Also trained by Scotland Yard and Harvard Law School, Chris has shared his unique insight through his bestselling book “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if Your Life Depended on It.” Now, through his MasterClass, he’s sharing his field-tested techniques with you.

@@Sam_kashyap The book is very eye-catchy... perhaps the bold color blocks create visual distraction when we're supposed to focus on Chris Voss talking. "This is as much of an audition for them as it is for you" YES!!! It took decades for me to figure this out and to gain the skills and confidence in my abilities to make employers apply TO ME, not me groveling for whatever they were offering. Granted, you do have to develop skills and reputation and experience to market yourself or you lose integrity, but it's a crucial turning point in your career. I changed up my career path, somewhat unintentionally, by working temp and contract work full time, which accelerated my experiences dramatically but it also allowed me to "taste" the job markets before I put my eggs in someone's basket as a signed employee. Game changer.

I love all things Chris makes, the book, the Masterclass, the Interview across the internet... I know it gives me a lot of power when having conversations with other people... Except for a certain breed of them... The impatient, controlling people who expect you to do all the things they ask and get offended when you don't... Especially if such a person is a relative and is almost always like this in situations of immediate action (like driving a car for example)... I just want to drive a car in silence, no one telling me to watch out for shit that's obvious, nor even to tell me to do certain maneuvers just because he's telling me to, or tell me to do some thing for the f$cking thousandth time... To be honest, if I had my own car, i'd tell such a person to go fuck himself at the first critique/remark followed by an angry yell at me for not doing what he wants... I certainly can't just stop time and start the conversation with him then and there... And his perpetual 'council' makes it just kind of inevitable to ignore him and his words, just to be reminded by the sounds of screams... Sometimes the thing I'm doing seems as the most logical thing to me at the time being, sometimes I am wrong about some stuff... But the instant blame and criticism is just unbearable! Don't you know other people have minds too? Maybe to them that seems right? What do you want them to do? How are they supposed to follow your suggestions? As a last thing, if I can say something to such a person, it'll just be shut the fuck up when I'm driving, talk about the weather, politics, family, money, religion, anything, anything at all... But just shut the fuck up about all things concerning the road... TL;DR: How to deal with a back seat driver?
@poohbeartube
@poohbeartube 3 года назад
It seems the person is accustomed to getting their way, possibly mollycoddled during their development. *Safety first!* Distracted driving is a problem due to the myth of multitasking, cell phones, and the many various electronic devices contributing to distractions. If you think negotiation would produce a positive benefit, I would suggest your first statement regarding driving conditions "I just want to drive a car in silence, no one telling me to watch out for shit that's obvious, nor even to tell me to do certain maneuvers just because he's telling me to, ..." be the foundation for the non negotiable conditions you as the driver must establish (at least as a starting point). After conditioning takes effect over a period of time, You could agree to talk about the weather, politics, family, money, religion, anything, if *you* determine it's safe. It seems that he's excessively critical and consequently you're defensive which doesn't facilitate effective communication.

Bonuses are the best way to grow self starters and instill faith and loyalty and culture in your company. You can see who's a good fit more quickly and weed out the weak links. It's very fair and transparent and a win-win, the company makes money and the employee is directly compensated for their work. They actually have skin in the game. There's unlimited growth potential. It works especially well for small young companies that can't afford $60k+ a year to bring on a decent employee but they can do $40k and when you make money, they get a percentage to fill the gap.

If they are asking about your previous salary, you already know that ethics and integrity are damaged within that company. The other problem is that they shouldn't HAVE to ask you, they should already have market analysis of what they should offer you for the job they advertised, and based on your experience, and the additional skills you bring to the table. If they aren't prepared to make a reasonable, if not SWEET, offer to you without trying to manipulate for less- do you really want to work there????? Do you want to be part of a team that operates that way??? Naw thanks, I'll deliver newspapers and mow lawns under my own standards....

Yes... I had read your book and tried your advices. :D "Mirroring" makes you look dumb because people love smart people who understand a lot from a single word, instead of the ones who demand explanation constantly... even ask questions constantly. "Labelling" disturbs people who doesnt want to share their feelings and who doesnt want their feelings to be revealed. In such case, they will help you to understand that whatever they feel is not your concern. Creating "empathy" is the game of politicians and smart people dont buy it anymore. People can act weird in stressful, life-and-death situations but that doesnt mean all people act in same way in every situation. Peace!

How to negotiate/deal with COVID deniers? I've even met doctors who deny its severity and want to annulate all the restrictions.. How do you deal with these people who pronounce their opinion so loudly? I don't have the data hard evidence to definitely proof them wrong as to convince them and I don't want to go into tiring discussions....

Sorry to burst your bubble... not a covid denier but a hysteria denier.... it’s a weak ass virus propped up by twisted data... weak men create hard times.

Gerry Vandepol sounds like you’ve given up on fighting the COVID virus. How can you trust anyone who believes in COVID especially when it’s being used as a political tool to manipulate people in ways that undermines the foundation of America and its Freedom? The cure can’t be worse than the disease and no matter how many die from COVID we can’t let it be the reason the American Dream dies with it.

Cue the COVID supporters. I know it sounds like I just don’t care about the hundreds of thousands of people DYING from COVID all around the world, and it’s unimaginable that I would refuse to wear a mask when it clearly saves lives. How can I wear a mask when wearing one has been politicized so much that it no longer serves the simple purpose of stopping droplets of particles coming from my mouth and now serves as an embodiment of the future of my country? Will I allow my government to literally wrap a cloth around my face and force me to stay inside my home and prevent me from seeing my family and friends on the Holidays and ultimately dictate the ways in which it’s acceptable to earn a living and pursuit of happiness be damned, all in the pursuit of safety. The Constitution has no words to indicate that Freedom is null and void if it’s not safe to walk freely through the world due to a virus.

Vivi and Gerry despite the vast divide between us all I do look forward to a future together with you where we have defeated COVID and retained the Freedom of our great nation.

The world seems to be heavy laden with very damaged individuals ie., narcissist, pedophiles, etc...Learning how to navigate through contact with the narcissistic personality would be very valuable knowledge...
