QUICK note. My intention was to say that shooting flat (on DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras) was not a good thing to do in a foggy environment. I kinda sounds like I was saying that you should never flat on such cameras. That was not my intention.
I'd like to think I've gotten better at this over the years but I still see myself occasionally using too much fog when crafting specific shots. I've frequently noticed this amateur mistake during my years as a film teacher with several of my students. I made this video to address this problem and to give others an opportunity to submit their own opinion.
One thing I forgot to mention regarding fog was how hard it can be to keep fog (or even haze) levels consistent from shot to shot. One cheap and quick solution for this is to take IPhone pics of every shot and to reference the fog level in every pic before shooting the following shot.
