Brilliant lesson! Great explanation and demonstration. Anyone should be able to understand the principle of the falling step after actually watching this video.

Hey thomas what about using weapons, like kali sticks or knife?? I mean the techniques in fma are very complex.... How would jkd simplify the use of weapons??
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO 4 месяца назад
You would use it as extent of your techniques, simple and direct.

@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO yup but a vid would be great on that cause most of the jkd weapon training now use kali or other kinds of drill based mechanisms and the jkd philosophy gets lost in all that bs...

I have a question. I'm 5'9", so relatively average, and I'm having difficulty getting punches in on taller opponents. Kicks to the legs and knee I can manage, but following through to punches is difficult due to the range difference. How would you recommend I approach this? And do you have any videos that could help? I also feel boxing gloves block a lot of strikes that would have originally landed. Should I try to adapt to using the gloves and get better at that, or just fight as if I didn't have gloves on, even though I'm not getting as many hits in?

@osfhireach1680 I’m also not that tall and I find hitting lower like solar plexus or throat when it comes to hitting a taller person. There is some vids here about switching from kicks to punches, it takes practice to switch fast. Since jkd is what Bruce described as "efficient street fighting with everything goes" I say practice without gloves since it’s for street defense and try to evade more then block. Use gloves for more harder hitting to avoid injury.

Awesome video as usual! JKD principles to me will always be the best principles ever! I'm going to go a bit off topic here, if I may. In the recent One Championship fight, I noticed that this particular Japanese fighter is using probably 80% of his fight using the JKD principles. What do you think Mr. Marx? Here's the video of the full fight: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RT6lEgMwP08.htmlsi=Np7ikzTH-m4F17ZX

The first style I studied is wing chun and how they generate power is the opposite, having feet shoulder with, toes pointing inward and knees bent to be "well rooted" into the ground to have a "stronger" punch by being braced against push back. rather dumb and not effective.
