I've never seen Masterpiece Shockwave being transformed. The legs are kinda genius with how they split apart to become a handle that isn't too bulky. Gl;ad to see Masterpiece Masterclass return. Got myself a MP28 because of this series and he's pretty dang great.
I started collecting vintage G1 figures not long ago. The plan is to buy a masterpiece for each G1 figure and display them together as a before and after display. These videos have really helped and I hope you make more soon!
I think Bruticus could be an interesting part of masterpiece master class given the fact he's the only combiner with multiple sets of completed versions. One could argue the same for devastator between combiner wars and toyworld however, fans toys has alluded to doing devastator so IDK.
I find the masterpiece Laserwave MP-29 pretty good and the KO's of it are poor enough quality to warrant the purchase (mushroom joints instead of ball, loose fit, awful tube/wire), but the colour really puts me off. The MP-29+ is my preferred version but is hopelessly overpriced :( For the cost of one I could just buy a regular one and commission a local artist to repaint (even cell shade style!), but I hold out for a bargain pick up some day. Can't find Quakewave for a decent price, but is on the radar. Quakeblast will be added soon after finding one for a great price :) I acquired an MFT Thunderbolt (aka Blitzwing) recently and was blown away with the quality for the price. Really hope they do a Shockwave at some point, even though it is not Masterpiece scale.
I had no idea that MP29+ exisited! That'll teach me for pre-ordering. I'd have waited otherwise. And I probably would have ignored the Plus version anyway, because I've been not that interested in the toon faithful retools of other more toy faithful MPs. But in this case, the Plus version has the more toy faithful colouring, and the translucent hands and gun make it even closer.
Good luck with that! He's so hard to find at a reasonable price now. I've been searching for ages and, after this video, I'm probably just going to piss away loads of money on an expensive one.
Good to see this series make a comeback! And yay for MP Shockwave. I have the regular release, but always wanted the plus version. Having watched this, I'm now more than happy with the regular lilac lad. The plus version's new head looks wrong to me. A bit like how all those 3P ones do to me too. They have the bulk, but Shockers has never stuck me as a quarterback. I do wish the MP figure was a bit bigger though. It seems wrong to me he's smaller than Soundwave. Still, I'm really pleased he got the MP treatment in the first place as he's one of my favourite Transformers :)
What is the name of the tune you're using for your opening and ending? (and who's it by?) I know it was used a lot during the G1 cartoon, but I've suddenly realized that my transformers collection will never be complete if I don't have a recording of it.
Awesome video and series! As for who is next.... Is Megatron too easy? I assume official wins that hands down. It would be interesting to hear your take on the Bumblebee versions. I would suggest Starscream specifically but maybe you just roll him into an overall seeker masterclass. There are so many now that choosing seekers might be in the most need of a Sixo masterclass! MP-29+ was my first MP scale figure. I am normally very partial to the animation aesthetic, but in this case the show got it wrong. It was always supposed to be darker, but the production just didn't get that purple through the process for some reason. It doesn't even look like the same color as MP-29. It's some faded grayish purple that's not even really a color. Certainly can't go wrong either way, indeed. Easily my favorite decepticon and very glad to have such a great representation on the shelf.
As a certified masterpiece-complexity-grumbler, I am dead impressed at how clean and intuitive that transformation is! Had I the budget I think I'd personally still opt for Quakeblast though, if only for the sheer beef factor.
I might pick up the MP-29+ version. I cannot help but see the original toy in it. Though.... I don't really care for cartoon accuracy that much, as I prefer the more realistic Hasui designs myself. But that's only really for those who had an alt mode based in reality in the first place.
My gripe with MP-29 is that it was totally not painted at all. All that lavender plastic was just cheap looking. Even if they kept the same color, it should have been painted imo and that makes all the difference between a toy and a premium figure (as evident by the + version which was just essentially a repaint and minor retooling of the 'eye'). Most of the joints are that gray plastic so there's not any worry of paint rub, either, and since it's all one color it isn't like they had to go too complex with it.
The music is too loud compared to your voice. 1 thing i loathe about MP Shockwave is his floating head, i cant get it to look alright and i hate having to trust a spring for a long period of time. Another thing i despise is the clutter in his chest, the see through plastic looks great but it hides the detailing of whats behind it too much making me annoyed i cant see it all. Rather have it full pink and flat than half of nothing
