I am from the Titan tribe of Manus Island in Papua New Guinea (Melanasia). My ancestors are some of the great seafarers and build huge canoes that can carry up to 50 people. They travel long distance and canoe is their home at sea. They use the stars, the sun, the moon, the big waves, the seagulls to plot their chart. Today we have descendants of some of our people in Yap Island in Micronesia.

If anyone was curious, the westerners learning from the Micronesians were the Hokulea crew from Hawai'i. With the knowledge they learned, they brought it back to Hawai'i and launched a cultural renaissance in the Pacific Islands by sailing around the world in traditional canoes with traditional methods.

U have to remember that colonization had a big part to play as in why this navigational method was not passed on because our ancestors were forced to stop all of their way of living cultural & traditional practices, to take on the Papa'a/Palangi (Foreigner) way of life otherwised they were punished especially with missionaries & their religion, the missionaries would label us condemned to Hell or demonic worshippers, only their God & Religion & way of life is right and that we must learn to work be servants of their Brittish Royal empire.

Nice analysis bro. One thing I would correct is that "fear" drove or forced us to travel the seas because in fact we see the ocean as our Ancestor, so there was no fear, we know we descend directly from nature and creation itself which is why we had that knowledge of navigation using the skies in the first instance. We feared nothing, not even death as we knew we transcended to the non physical intangible realms where we came from to return the the energies of our Ancestors when we leave our physical bodies anyway. We view & respect our natural environment as our esteemed elders & looked to them for guidance in all aspects of life because we were fully connected physically mentally and spiritually. & no offence, but everything indigenous peoples knew is literally direct evidence that a humanoid god in a white robe did not create everything in existence lol

Maybe not a humanoid god in a white robe but interestingly, many indigenous groups around the world, believe in an ultimate Creator of sorts. One entity above all others. The only difference is...the demi gods seem to have just as much relevance in their worship.

You have to keep in mind that it's not hard to find a volcanic island when it is erupting. The smoke plume tells everyone for miles exactly where the island is located. I'm not devaluing the incredible navigating ability, I'm just saying the statistic improbability of finding Hawaii or Easter Island gets way easier when you have a huge beacon telling you exactly where it's located. People never seem to consider this extremely obvious fact in these videos. You also forgot to mention that they used their testacles laid along the bottom of the boat to sense the most slight changes in conditions. Good video I enjoyed watching.
