"Your neurons had an abnormally long refractory period", meaning he took a long time to answer, but implying the answer itself was actually correct. The Neurologist was giving the closest to a compliment he could give.
It wasn't his nod, Jonathans have a passive aura that make any physician or aspiring physician in their vicinity feel an overwhelming relief, described as "everything is going to be alright", that's why the med student knew it was Jonathan but wasn't sure if he noded.
Out buying scrubs for Med school. My mom says, “You know what they say to the last person in the class, right?” “Yes Mom, I know, MD.” She gets this devious smile and says, “No, they say ‘Welcome to family medicine.’” Her savage motivation gets me through 🤣
Family med here and the, "I'll buy your plane ticket, the finest seat that Spirit has to offer" has me in stitches 🤣😅 Now back to doing more forms on my day off...
As a psychiatrist I'd like to say that sometimes, stereotypes are actually annoying. The empathy stereotype. Oh and nobody's wearing corduroy or houndstooth or whatever. Don't even know where that stereotype came from. Male psychiatrists do wear suits, some of them. Women, it's anything goes. Well, as long as it's relatively conservative. These skits should point out that we should not wear scarves or long necklaces or such: patients could grab them and strangle us. This is not a joke, either: we were told this, early on.
On a sad note: my grandpa fell, broke his femur and 7 ribs On a happy note: we all refer to Ortho as "bone bros" and often refer to these skits when Ortho leaves his room or gives us a call It's a great coping mechanism to deal with a difficult situation
And so the cycle continues for next year. That’s when I match and everything that happened with the match this year is already making me anxious 😬 but so happy for all my M4 buddies who are going to their dream residency!
@@stephenrajgomes3304 enough that they have their own specialty- everything below the ankle is the realm of the podiatrist. And that's all I can tell you because I know nothing about podiatry except that they can prescribe meds but only for foot related things.
@@stephenrajgomes3304 About ~25% of the body's bones are just in the feet. They're very complex, lots of bones and tendons and musculature going on in there.
Congratulations to the newly matched med students! I also want to say thanks to you, Doc! I'm a (soon-to-be) newly licensed doctor in the Philippines and your videos have been a great source of inspiration (and laughs!!).
I love your channel, man. I don't know diddly squat about medicine and how things work in hospitals, but the way you make your videos, anyone can enjoy them. Watching your videos has made me want to go into ortho; I'd love greeting potentially everyone with "what up bro" in my professional life.
I would Highly reconsider your interest in Ortho. Unless you relate to Neanderthals and discharging patients' feet before the rest of their body is medically cleared.
Ortho is his weakest representation of medical doctors. Ortho is a highly competitive area of medicine! Good luck to any unmotivated med students who wish to go into Ortho!
@@Liuhuayue not all doctors are surgeons. Orthopedic surgery is it’s own specialty. Just like neurosurgery is it’s own specialty compared to neurology. Unless you’re nitpicking over the use of the word orthopedic versus orthopedist.
As an inpatient pharmacist, internal med guy has me laughing my ass off. Seriously can't get enough of it. "Although I don't have enough evidence to back up that claim" 🤣
As an IM resident, your videos give me life. We constantly reference your videos in the work room and show them to our (cool) attendings. Its especially fun to ask our ophthalmology prelims when they're going to get their Johnathans. Keep making great content! The resident community loves you!
As a former Paramedic the ER doc line about dangerous hobbies felt like a personal attack. 🤣 Also it's so true, any ER I've ever worked at the first place I was shown on my orientation tour was the bike storage.
Anesthesiology calls the med student who can barely hear what he's saying cause he is whispering. Radiology would send med student an x-ray of their hand doing a thumbs-up. Pediatrics would call and congratulate you, and then send you a gift card to Toys'r'Us to shop gear to decorate your stethoscope, your coat, your entire life.
Every radiologist ive ever met is incredibly imaging averse. Makes sense when you consider they know what radiation does to you and the ammount of exposure they get.
Videos like this really show how well you differentiate your characters, down to the nuances of their accents and personalities. 11/10, with congrats to the matching students!
It's the family medicine desperation for me and I remember you had an abnormally long refractory period. Hilarious 🤣.please do a match for paeds and surgery too. Congratulations to all the new residents!
as a wannabe lawyer I have to say that Family doctor is the commercial/corporate lawyer 🥺❤️ that "you don't need new stuff you can have my stuff" nearly made me cry 😂🥺❤️
I find it absolutely hysterical that my husband is a psychiatrist and he has that exact same jacket that you wear in these videos. His has elbow patches too.
Waiting for the day that people respect teeth as a part of medicine on the whole. My teeth have almost killed me TWICE now because it's never covered by insurance where I live. And I'm serious about dying. Dental absesses in the devil's triangle on both sides of my face.
We did rotations with maxillofacial docs in residency. They were a SHARP bunch. And it wasn't one or two of them, they were all pretty impressive. Not saying all maxillofacial docs are that good but at least the ones in our residency were. I'm sure many elsewhere are as well.
It's amazing to me that this man can find the time to do all the things needed for these videos (writing incredibly witty dialog, developing the individual characters, setting up the scenes, etc) all while doing his regular daily stuff. He makes me realize how lazy I really am...
No medical knowledge here, just a general acceptance that you are spot on with your representations of the different types of Docs. Jonathan is my favorite though. Silent but effective💕.
You just get better and better, as you try to cram that much comedy into such a tiny RU-vid space! The look of disgust on Ortho's face, regarding 'feet', was perfect. Like those extra 52 bones just don't count. I think we all fell off our chairs laughing, waiting for the Jonathan Nod.
anatomy needs to be “overly thorough” for nursing as well as does pathophysiology and pharmacology…a lot of nursing students just try to “get through” those classes and it shows permanently throughout their career.
Do it if you can stomach the crippling student debt and years of uninterrupted training, but it's totally worth it if you're passionate. Especially if you do ophthalmology apparently...
It's not often you have fatal outcomes in ophtho (except maybe stuff like discovering a melanoma in the eye I guess) but protecting vision is so important!!
suffering through boards studying rn, and hearing the words "congrats, you matched" even if through a youtube video is enough to give me a serotonin boost
The way the internal medicine doctor spoke, his tone, is so accurate. I have seen very many of them and I just realized that I talk the same way. IM docs speak in a calm, welcoming tone because they know that is if you are seeing them, chances are you are having a crappy day
I have nothing to do with medicine except when the body mechanics have to tune me up or pop a tumour out. This is still my favourite channel right now. You’re a gifted comedian!
congratulations to all the new matches! IM is the likely the best possible field, in the setting of high demand in the field and low self awareness of the internists about burn out, although other possibilities can not be completely ruled out due to internal bias; if concerns persist for 3-4 months, a complete evaluation is recommended - IM hospitalist 🧐🤣
You always make me laugh!! After being at my hospital for 2 decades, this is spot on!! Yes, it is satire, but so on point!! I work in ER and I love it!! Thank you!!
