Richard is wearing some "special glasses" during the opening of Match Game today. Judy and Fannie also switch seats! Panel: Bill Daily, Brett Somers, Jack Carter, Judy Carne, Richard Dawson, and Fannie Flagg
Lol - "Sterile, which is never having to say you're sorry." If I could go back in time, I'd give Richard Dawson nothing to apologize for ... repeatedly. 😉
The 6th seat was a thankless position to be in because many, many times the final fate of the contestant rested on that panelist's answer. Betty White frequently commented on it.
re: the Judy/Fanny seat switch --- Brett Somers (among others) pointed out that the 4th seat (lower left) was the dummy seat, (often occupied by a "dizzy blonde" type), and that the 6th seat had to have a sharp-witted panelist it in because, being last, it was the hardest position in which to come up with a fresh quip. Fanny Flagg had already sat in the 4th seat for at least two previous weeks, and she started this week in that seat. The 6th seat was filled by the presumed-to-be sophisticated English lady, Judy Carne. After two days of gameplay, they realized that Fanny looked like a Rhodes scholar compared to Judy. So, they switched seats.
Well contrary to popular opinion I always liked Brett, lol, I watched the show after school in the 70’s and her laugh/cackle was something I remembered distinctly from the show so just reminds me of the old show.
Leave it to Bill and Fannie to RUIN it for the contestants with their STUPID responses of Wong and Won Ton. I love this game show, but if I was old enough back then, you wouldn't catch ME on it. The contestants are there to make MONEY and all the panelist do is answer the questions for THEMSELVES! (who cares if the contestant wins or not as long as THEY get a laugh (I've felt bad for the contestants MANY times)

In the 48 years since this episode was aired, Gene Rayburn, Bill Daily, Brett Somers, Jack Carter, Judy Carne, and Richard Dawson all have passed away. Kinda makes you wonder if any of the contestants are still around.
Pocketbook was THE answer! That is why the audience booed when Richard said “Pocket Money”. He cost Brian $2,500! Of course, Richard eventually got much better. Now I wonder what was Richard’s winning percentage in the head-to-head matches? I would guess maybe 75% or more.
